I never had or have tiktok so this was interesting as these were already things i was into before 2020 and still like lol. i think you guys dont realize that hes just another band. hes literally just some guy. just like any other guy with a band. i cannot stress this enough, hes a new "celebrity". ive misgendered people on accident. he is bisexual. he is literally just a normal dude, theres no grand scheme going on. i rlly didnt think anyone would think what he said about unaliving himself was anything other than like. "i could literally do the most stupidly stereotypical emo thing and you would still say in faking it for attention". he makes a shit ton of music about his experiences AS A QUEER MAN. saying "do it" to "ill kms" is insane, especially with the direct quote. if it was just a general "fuck the haters" thing, it wouldnt be weird. but the direct quote is entering very dangerous territory. it dosnt matter if they were 16 or 30, you dont say that shit. but honestly ? i kind of blame the internet ?? i do wonder how many of our favorite bands wouldve had weird beef with people if they could communicate so directly with "haters". theres such a weird disconnect that makes it hard for me to put it into perspective. and ill hold him accountable for it, but not on you guys's terms. because nothing he could ever say or do would make you change your opinion on him or the situation, and that makes me not take your side seriously. and, although i dont agree with it, so so so many artists have sampled songs. fall out boy, green day, panic at the disco, literally most new mainstream artists. i think instead of attacking individuals that use it, we should attack the system that made it so. make laws, make it best practice to communicate with the sampled artists. but really, until we go after every sampled song, it feels like cherrypicking this one guy because youve decided he isnt emo enough for you. anyway, i like his music. i think its good. it IS deep to me because i relate to it, and its got a good flow. he sings about important topics and his lyrics are more punk than like. almost every mcr or fall out boy song. i think its absolutely INSANE calling someone a poser for liking music that you dont like. what if i hated mcr? does that make people who like mcr posers?? no. "there were 4 writers!! grr!!" thats good?? that's literally a good thing. its not like they wrote the song for him, this shit happens all the time. IVE done it. i have poems and words and songs but i often need someone else to help put it together in a way that sounds good. thats FINE. that is LITERALLY NORMAL. if liking tx2s music makes me a poser, and if evan being depressed and gay and emo and traumatized with religious trauma who literally just made a band like ALL OF US DID makes him a poser, fuck being a "real" emo. id rather be a poser than judge normal people for liking music and not being good enough for you. when did being emo mean conforming to a specific standard ??? 2020 aesthetic reminds me of the scene and other alternative fashions when I was a teen in the early to mid 2000s. I'm in my 30s now and sporting a "clean girl" fashion but in 2020, it felt like my younger years were peeking in.

this era forever has a special place in my heart <333 i feel like it was so freeing as someone who was/wanted to be alternative and then fell back into basic trends to fit in, the pandemic allowed everyone to experiment more and it felt a lot less scary to come back to school in 2021 since half of the kids looked completely different too. and even though most of them have settled on a more traditional style, i still loved seeing everyone try something new and look interesting!!! and idk if i every would’ve had the confidence to wear what i actually wanted to and do my hair and makeup how i want to if 2020 wasn’t so out there in fashion trends.

Wdym i am only like 2 years too old to have fun with this time. "I went thru all these phases, i found mysself blah blah" i had my style and hobbies ripped out from under me and completely irreparably changed. Like i can never again dress the way i did 2018-2020. I was ahead of my time and now my time has past ): especially when my eyeliner style got ripped to "cosplay eyeliner" i was in the later half of highschool, returning senior year to see that everyone who hated my style suddenly jacked it actually ruined me, like rahhhh u literally hated my eyeliner take it off fuck you.

As a cosplayer for well over a decade now who was socialised on conventions it’s so odd to see the tiktok cosplayers out in the wild. You can really tell they never had to fit into a non-curated community.

dont take this era into 2025 or later on please the 2020 alt era was a den full of posers and narcissists and people who never even continued to be alternative past the pandemic. for the love of god please i dont want 2020 to be a nostalgic era for monster energy addled newgens that thought the blanket term of alternative style stemmed solely from the 2020s. awful things happened in 2020 and im not just talking about the lockdown and isolation of it. it was awful and it bred awful people and muddied the waters for genuine alternative fashion.

It's incredibly interesting to me how during the time we were in lockdown people felt their most free in fashion and expressing interests. When we didn't have a lot of peer pressure to conform to what our peers saw as acceptable we were able to express interests completely openly with ought fear of judgment. As much as I hated the isolation and fear of a deadly virus I will forever be grateful to be able to express myself with my art and fashion. Even now I try to take that freedom with me throughout life and despite maybe being considered "cringe" or "weird" by an outsiders view because expression is true joy.
