The Build Room
Австралия
Добавлен 10 май 2020
Each week inside The Build Room we'll tackle various aspects of working on cars and other fun projects. Currently working on an 2020 A90 Toyota Supra and a 1976 RA23 Toyota Celica with much more to come.
Its not really a how to or training series, and I'm in no way certified so don't take it as gospel but I'll try to cover off on the issues I run into so you can learn from my many amusing mistakes tooling around in the garage.
We'll be tearing things down and building them back up including cutting, welding, painting, swapping engines, suspension, wheels and more. Sometimes it'll be a complete win and other times a massive fail - hope you'll join us on the ride.
If you want to know more go to thebuildroom.com and check it out. Thanks for stopping by!

Maybe I missed it but what are the 6 bulbs? T3/ T4?
Do you happen to know where to buy the defrost button? I can find all buttons except that one.
This was an excellent video, taking out the turbo is a full 1-2 day job. Especially, when parts break and not having all those plastic pieces readily available.
Hey was looking at getting one of these, however ive heard negative things about 20 year old plus auto transmissions. Is it even worth getting an auto r34?
Really depends on your expectations - I know of people that have no issues with their auto and are happy with them, however they are 25 years old now so even if they're working as they should, they're still going to be very doughy and slow to shift, nothing like say BMW autos from 2010 onward. I will be converting mine over to manual shortly, as it's failing, but even if it was holding up i still wouldn't keep it auto, it just doesn't feel sporty.
@TheBuildRoom ohhh okay thanks, safer to get lower kilometres/miles im sure
Amazing!
Buen trabajo
Good job My friend
can you explain how you replaced the throwout bearing?
Any review on the brake calipers plasti dipped ? I wanted to do it on mine but was worried about the temperature of the brake calipers
hello, i hope all is well. thanks for the great video, i used this to replace and set up my new TPS on my 98 HR34 (RB20DE Neo). with TPS plugged in, my idle is perfect at 650 rpm. with the TPS unplugged (timing is locked to properly set idle), my car idles at 1100 rpm with the IACV screw all the way tight. with the TPS plugged in, the ECU pulls timing in order to set the idle to 650 (or close to it). base timing at idle shouild be 15 degrees, but mine shows between 0 and 2 with the consult software plugged in, meaning the ECU is pulling timing to set idle correctly at 650 rpm. did you ever figure out why your idle was also high without TPS plugged in? maybe would help me figure out why mine is doing the same thing. although my car idles properly with TPS plugged in, just knowing the ECU has to pull so much timing to adjust it, bothers me haha. thanks in advance!
50/50 mix of water and aluminum/mag wheel cleaner.
Simple Green has many different formulas. Simple Green Aircraft is better suited with aluminum.
Awesome video!
i wondered what the tps stood for. youtube has offered up some other relevant videos and there it is. tps is "throttle position sensor". good show. well explained.
Dude your car look awesomer if you could stabilize the rust look. Still looks awesome either way. Also nice to see you're showing off the no bondo.
From Simple Green customer service " use at least a 1:13 ratio (about 7.1% cleaner to water) or stronger, so there is sufficient corrosion inhibitor while cleaning. If you heat the solution in the ultrasonic cleaner, keep the heated solution below 42 C (109 F) since this is the breakdown/decomposition temperature of Pro HD. Once this temperature is exceeded, the cleaner will start to break down and lose cleaning efficacy, as well as become corrosive to certain metals like aluminum."
Just followed this video to do my R34 trans flush! Awesome! Only concern i had was waiting for the Permatex gasket sealer to dry before installing the transmission pan - i did NOT do this. (Neither did you, but like you said, the trans filter is packaged in oxidizing-protection paper which makes me think it would have oxidized if i left it exposed to air for the 24 hours Permatex says to dry for). I've run the car for 30 min since then and the gasket is holding. Also only other concern i had was that since you add trans fluid through the dipstick at some point, gotta make sure the dipstick is "dry" afterwards, otherwise the fluid level will give a false reading Not sure i'll ever use that mini beam-style torque wrench again but...oh well I flushed about 14 total litres through it, maybe overkill, but i'm about to drive the car tomorrow. We'll see if there was an improvement.
Any chnce you colud do a how How to fix a Guilietta park break lever Giulietta
That was awesome keep doing what you doing that was amazing well explained to do and what not to do.
How do you recommend cleaning a part that doesn't entirely fit in it? Can I clean one half first? But that means I can't put the cover on. Would that be ok?
I've done that and it works fine. Just make sure to set the time equally before flipping the part.
Just a,quick tip pinsol floor cleaner at 4 to 1 with water works great on aluminum and brass
Thanks - just about to do some sidedrafts i have here so will give it a crack
@@TheBuildRoom Pinesol Original is the only version that is acidic {pH3.5}. This is the one you want to use on aluminum.

nice the right video with the best information i need.
Parts would be almost impossible to find
huh, doesnt seem too bad. my sedan is having the A/T light come on every so often annd shifting kindna harshly. maybe this will fix it. we'll see!
No, never spay your headlights with clear spray paint. Sand it down with 1000 grit sandpaper, then 1500, then with 1500, then 2000 (all wet sand) then a uv protective polish, then your done, did this with my Renault Clio and they look like new. Spray painting then will eat into the plastic after a while and will look like small cracks. NO PAINT, ONLY SANDING AND UV POLISH. DO A POLISH ON EVERY 2ND OR 3RD CAR WASH TO KEEP IT PROTECTED.
And what's wrong with a Alfa badge? Absolutely nothing wrong with Alfa-Romeo dude. Their currently a extremely reliable brand acording to recent reliably and customer satisfaction studies. The brand received a higher reliability score than its German rivals like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi and even scored a better score than Japanese brands likeHonda and Subaru. Its terrible when there are people that tend to continue this Alfa reliability stigma. Do some research like I did and you'll see that Alfa-Romeo's are stunning reliable cars, you can get car brands that are much worse, poor build quality and unfortunately more popular than Alfa-Romeo's, and people don't even realize it.
If you do something for 20 minutes or whatever and it's still not perfectly clean, could you just put it on again for another 20 and keep doing it until it spotless? Or do you worry about the machine wearing out or something?
Hello. I have a similar situation where the both the hour and minutes keep increasing and all the climate control buttons wont do anything. Would you assume this is the same situation?
Time going up continuously does usually indicate that the time buttons are "always on" - that's the basic issue with the controller because it can only read one input at a time, so when the time button is always on increase it can't tell when you hit the other controllers. Good chance it's your issue.
@@TheBuildRoom thank you for the feedback. Your video was extremely helpful
@@TheBuildRoom following up on this. My issue is exactly what you show in this video. I ended up just desoldering both time buttons and the climate control reacted immediately. You saved me a ton of money since these climate controls are super expensive now. Thank you!!
@@rikuszone Hey man glad it helped! Definitely one of the better fixes for R34s!
Great vid. Gotta do this to my p10 so it was good to get a look at a similar rack
will the rebuilt steering rack make the steering light again after the rebuilt? mine is stiff
@@comaradelee mine lightened up because it was leaking previously and now has full pressure, but it really depends on what is causing yours to be stiff (could be other suspension components, wheels etc)
@@TheBuildRoom thank you for this
@@comaradelee no problem, also might be your power steering pump, if it can't build up enough pressure it's would definitely be heavy
hi im in UK. bought this and it hasnt worked properly since day 1. i had a 13a plug on when i got it, plugged in tried it and blew the house fuse. got myself a 32amp supply and it does the same thing. it will do the first spot sometimes but 99 percent of the time it blows the 32 amp breaker in the house. utter garbage, the ebay seller ghosted me . id AVOID THIS GARBAGE. no after sales, no warranty
Should i consider the procedure being relatively the same as a 2016 x3 2.0. Maybe easier? With more wiggle room to work with or maybe it requires more pieces to come off?
Excellent and informative review 👍
I have the hush 30. Its great. Anyone know what maximum pressure these hush series can be adjusted to?

I have to change my rear seal on a w40 transmission and will give it a go thanks to your video. The manuals I have don’t mention this procedure. You are an excellent narrator and will watch your videos as I work on my 1973 Celica RA21. Appreciate your video! 👍
Stupid F ing music!! Why.!?!
Great movie with nice details on every turn. Appreciate the small helpful additions also in case this is an operation I will need to consider doing on my 2013 F34
Interesting, I find my current Ozito direct drive compressor and my previous direct drive compressor sound louder than my two cylinder belt drive compressor. The direct drives have a higher pitch sound which I find annoying and sounds louder to my ears where as the belt drive has a lower pitched sound which doesn't seem to penetrative as much. This is my subjective opinion, I would love to hear what others have found.
Thank you so much for a detailed and clear video! 23 year old female here who’s trying to learn as much as she can about my first car 😅this was definitely helpful
Next time buy the satin dupli color it’s amazing for car trims if you wanted to change interiors from crème to black. Works on roof liners and carpets too plus all the plastics and it’s gives a factory finish. Legit my favourite paint
And spray light coats on the fabric and the vinyl or else it doesn’t adhere
Standard simple green will damage SOME aluminum alloys, which is why it is not recommended for aluminum. Simple green makes an aluminum specific simple green for aircraft’s. IME, cast aluminum is more susceptible as well. It looks like you have damaged the surface film of the aluminum in the simple green solution, which is why it didn’t come out as ‘clean’ looking as you wanted. The corrosion resistance of aluminum relies on the inactivity of this surface film of aluminum or hydrated oxide. It’s when this surface film dissolves that corrosion occurs; when the film suffers localized damage and self-healing cannot occur, localized corrosion follows. This surface film is generally stable in a pH range of about 4.5 to 8. The film can stay stable in other cases depending on the environment, for example, nitric acid at pH 0, glacial acetic acid at pH3, or ammonium hydroxide at pH 13. The oxide film can be dissolved in most strong acids and bases, in which case the corrosion of the aluminum will be rapid.
Muy buen video tengo el mismo problema espero y sea la misma solución
