  • TBR - Ep. 073 - TPS Reports (Nisemono - 1998 R34 Nissan Skyline GTR - Episode 006)
    Getting the R34 dialed in even more - this week we're cleaning out the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) to try and deal with a high idle issue, then replacing and re-calibrating the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS ) to shore up the auto transmission and eliminate some throttle cut outs. Massive difference to the end produce and something that everyone with an R34 should know.

    I'll be calibrating my TPS due to these learnings. It's a race car so I removed the IACV & AICV when the auxillary failed. It's an SR20 & the AICV is a diaphragm that is temperature operated & failing is a common fault.

      Racecars don't need idle, you'll be fine 👍

    Great work and nice videos. Thanks a lot for the series. I had an R34 25GT myself in red between 2010 and 2014, right before I got myself a black 25GTT. I did some work on them myself as well, belts, plugs, injectors etc. The only thing I miss about the GT is the throttle response. It was almost instant.

      Yes I like the responsive NA too, although I'm going to convert to manual as the auto takes all the fun out of it. Just another project on the list!

    Swap the transmission later with the engine, we want more Celica content! Or 15 of us do, anyhow...
    Great and informative video as always. I'm dealing with an intermittent high idle and IAC valve code on my DD Toyota truck with the 3.4L V6. I removed it and tried cleaning it up but no luck. It's an aftermarket replacement installed by the previous owner and the general consensus is that OE is the only solution. Unfortunately the OE part is around $300 USD 😬 Might trying adjusting the TPS like you did and see if that helps before dropping the cash.

      Haha - up to my eyeballs in Celica stuff right now and the R34 is still auto so we're heading the right direction. That's an expensive TPS considering they're still made. The R34 one was $500USD but that was after they were discontinued. I thought you guys got cheap parts over there!

    Great work on the Skyline! Sounds like it's getting in tune well. Making it a daily driver is great idea. Too many folks 'saving' their cars. . .and for what?? Drive it, that's better for the car anyway!! I like the idea of a manual swap but if the auto trans is still good, why?? I would, maybe purchase a manual, if one comes up for a good price. Sit on it until you have auto troubles and keep her going with a swap down the road. I would like to swap my gen 3, 4 Runner to manual but the trans was recently replaced. That would be a waste!! I am actually looking forward to the Celica work. Love to see where you are with them.

      Thanks mate, appreciate the support. Good news is the Celica episode is up next, I'm pulling it out of storage today :)

    Hi bit late but i just ask:
    At 12:29 you talking about throttle cut out in low throttle. Did you manage to solve that? I had/have similiar problem on 20GT. I replace the TPS sensor. It helped a ton but it is not 100%. You can still feel the "cut out" specialy on 4th-5th gear. It is not everytime but it is still there.
    One thing that changed with new TPS is that the idle is now higher(above 950rpm) and even slight movement with steering wheel causes to pull up rpm and you can hear some pull/push air "thing" going in the engine bay(IACV trying to compensate??)
    Could the IACV be bad? I have second one to replace it(doing it next week)

      Lots of different things that my cause that - TPS is one, IACV could also be impacting if its not working. How confident are you with the calibration of the TPS also as that is a big deal.
      If you replaced the TCS and cleaned the IACV you need to do the calibration on idle too. It's a week after you made your comment (sorry I've been flat out) so how did it go after the IACV swap?

    What lsd is going to fit on the car? Oem?

      OEM hopefully - have some 5x1 axles coming because the stock 25GT one is 3x2 so they won't fit - I'm hoping the hubs will still accept them.

    What’s the part number for the tps ?

    • @TheBuildRoom
      @TheBuildRoom  Месяц назад +1

      Can't be 100% sure cause I didn't retain the box but I'm pretty sure its 22620-17U10. There is a different part number for a manual however, so if you're not auto look it up on the Amayama website. I got mine from EFI Solutions in Australia (if you're AU).

    Mine is a manual, sometimes while driving the CEL comes on and as soon as I let off the gas it disappears. Also during driving it will jerk quite bad when I let off the gas even a little bit. The worst is when in 1st gear it jerks like a mf. Could it be a bad TPS?

    • @TheBuildRoom
      @TheBuildRoom  9 месяцев назад +1

      Could be, I wouldn't say go out and buy one to swap in unless the cost is not important, but you can get a multimeter and chech the idle resistance and the also have someone operate the pedal while you check to see whether the resistance changes smoothly or jumps / has dead spots.

    Thumbs down to the manual swap! Keep it auto and focus on the Celica stuff

      Lol - that's the plan for now - may come back to the manual swap next year.
