    The math isn’t mathing. Princess you need to pay for WiFi, specialty dining, alcohol, not sure why you think it’s included. Both sets of parents are the highest elite status. They complain that they keep losing their loyalty perks. You seem to be trying to sell Norwegian folks Princess. The parents don’t get specialty dining, drink package, or WiFi. They don’t want to pay the up charges.

      The math does math, Princess Plus was added to the calculations to show an even comparison. As to your parents and their Elite status, what benefits have been taken away from them in the past years? I too am Elite with Princess and they haven’t changed since Ruby was added about 12 years ago, give or take.

    Is it just me or does the food quality look disappointing unless you go specialty? We were very happy with NCL food; now I’m having second thoughts on our booking with Sun Princess with Plus. Paid a lot more too

    • @TidalHorizons

      For me, it wasn't so much the quality of the food in the main dining room, it was the selection compared to how the ships used to be. If I wasn't making videos about the specialty restaurants, I'd probably only go to one each trip and perhaps the Chef's Table or Winemaker's dinner. Generally speaking, the quality is quite good in my opinion.

    Explora 1 had very little entertainment last week and the entertainment they did have was repetitive and didn't start until 10PM. we also felt dinner at 6:30 is late as well and we enjoy the Yacht club dinner at 5:30. I was surprised at how small OT1-4 cabins are and the lack of choices for beer on the ship. I got off at Cozumel and bought my own beer back to the ship. Also surprised that drinks I can get in the yacht club on MSC are extra charge on Explora. We enjoyed the cruise the ship is gorgeous and the food is amazing. I think with a few adjustments and a little more experience with American cruisers , it will be great. My wife and I thought once we did Explora we could not do the Yacht Club again but that is not the case. I missed some of the entertainment on the larger MSC ships and hoping Explora will provide some additional entertainment in the future. Overall it was a culinary feast aboard a very beautiful ship with outstanding service and attention to detail. We are doing Explora 2 at the end of January and looking forward to it.

    • @TidalHorizons
      @TidalHorizons 6 дней назад

      It sounds like your experience was very much the same as mine. Wonderful food, the ship was incredible but the entertainment lacking. It sounds like it hasn't improved much since I was there in March. Now, I know to temper my expectations on a small ship, you shouldn't expect a full scale production show but good quality is important. I think they'll adapt to the markets they serve, it's going to take some time. I'm looking forward to trying Explora again in the future!

    • @jamesvirga9496
      @jamesvirga9496 5 дней назад

      @ I’m going on Explora 2 end of January. Hopefully I’ll have a better experience. If not there’s always the Yacht Club. I was also surprised at the lack of choice in beer. I like lite beer and had to get off at Cozumel and buy some. Interesting. I agree we spoke with the hotel GM and he said they have to adjust to the different markets.

    My wife and I are booked on the Queen Elizabeth in Aug/Sept 2025 for an Alaska cruise in Queens Grill . This is my first cruise and I had zero desire to travel on a hideous floating fun park or bland floating apartment block, hence we chose Cunard for that old world traditional experience. I hope it lives up to my expectations!

    • @TidalHorizons
      @TidalHorizons 8 дней назад

      Enjoy! The Queens Grill will definitely have that traditional experience and it's the place I would dare to use the word luxury. You'll of course have those who compare her to Queen Mary 2 but ignore the negative and enjoy what Cunard has to offer!

  • @kaiwildly3938
    @kaiwildly3938 8 дней назад

    Princess has really gone downhill in service and food quality. It's too bad because the ships are nice and the lower standard of service and food has made me consider another line.

    • @TidalHorizons
      @TidalHorizons 8 дней назад

      I think you need to be careful with your expectations, it's not just Princess that's had a decline in service and food quality and variety. RCL, Carnival and NCL are all in the same proverbial boat as they race to shore up their bottom line and pay off the massive debts from the pandemic. Unless you are willing to upgrade into the luxury or ultra luxury lines, you'll need to decide if your brand loyalty is worth it compared to trying something new.

  • @geoffreystone4849
    @geoffreystone4849 9 дней назад

    The obsession with the drinking culture for profit alienates the loyalty members. There used to be pride in the 79% return HAL cruisers. If you want the crew to be paid more put up your fares and do away with the egregious gratuities.

    Wow not cruised since 2011 looks like a lot of work!After checking prices and browsing Princess website,if one would pay attention to all theses details he talks about one would go crazy!

    • @TidalHorizons
      @TidalHorizons 8 дней назад

      You'll find that there is a lot more to plan ahead of a cruise compared to 2011, that's not just for views. It's like going to Disney World back in 2011 compared to now. Back then you'd maybe make a dining reservation and go to a park. Now you need a computer degree to figure out the park reservations, ride reservations, dining reservations, parking etc..... Cruising is similar, lots of tech and lots to do in advance or you will be at a disadvantage onboard. That goes for Princess or any of the other brands right up into the Luxury brands.

    I have a deposit down for a cruise out of San Francisco after reading all about princess,we can only afford the standard plan,looks like we would suffer cruising this way,it’s a shame what they have done.prices out of San Francisco are way to expensive

    • @TidalHorizons
      @TidalHorizons 14 дней назад

      The standard plan is the way most people have always cruised, the Plus and Premier are newer ways to cruise more all-inclusive. If you aren't a alcohol drinker and you are happy with water, juice, iced tea, coffee and such then there is no reason to panic. These are included at the buffet and at the restaurants for no extra charge. If you don't need internet access, then don't buy it. You can still use your phone for the app without charge and use your data in port. Many people are still cruising this way, they just don't have the need for those two key items. As for the cost, it's increased everywhere, not just the west coast and not just Princess.

  • @conniemichalik4824
    @conniemichalik4824 14 дней назад

    We are currently on the Discovery Princess, and the app doesn’t work very well. We ordered two drinks and they never arrived.😮. Service is extremely slow. They need to give passengers a sheet of paper at check in to inform them which restaurants they can use for each package. Internet is extremely difficult to access if you have an Apple device. Passengers with androids are having an easier time. Honestly I do not think the packages are worth it. This is our 14th cruise with Princess, and sadly, we feel that it is time to move on to another cruise line. As a side not, the Explorer is way too big to give good service. We are going to stick with smaller ships from now on with more personal service.

      Hmmm, I've never had an issue with the app or wifi on my iphone. The only problem usually is if you are trying to switch back and forth. I highly recommend visiting the Guest Service desk at a quiet time and ask for some assistance. They usually have someone knowledgeable. Which package are you sailing with? I've always found the Plus package to be worth it for me, but the Premier not so much, only if I'm looking to try a lot of the Specialty Restaurants.

  • @billjones4986
    @billjones4986 14 дней назад

    Looks like I will cancell the standard fare is not worth it,we are not going to be embarrassing by asking all the time if this is extra,that is extra.plus the prices out of the west coast are outrageous!

    • @TidalHorizons
      @TidalHorizons 14 дней назад

      It all depends on your need. If you intend on paying the daily gratuity, having internet access and drinking more than a couple of drinks per day, then Plus is worth it. If you aren't going to use one of these three, then it's probably not. Watch our Princess Plus vs. Premier video, it breaks it all down and gives you an idea of the calculations you need to do. Math and nothing more!

      It's a good solution for some but perhaps out of reach for others! I enjoyed Explora Journeys immensely this year, same thing with everything included. Specialty restaurants are only special if they are something unique and not something I can get easily on land.

    New cruiser here,bought the standard plan on princess,now with not as much included as years past,how do I know what’s going to charg my credit card and what doesn’t hope I don’t have to ask all cruise long would be kinda embarrassing.

    • @TidalHorizons
      @TidalHorizons 14 дней назад

      It's not so much that things have been taken away, the items in the packages were never included for the most part. You'll see people online talking about things that the cruise lines are taking away that used to be free, but I don't see much that falls into that category. Expect Drinks, Wifi and daily gratuity to show up on your credit card plus anything you spend on spa, shore excursions or shopping. There isn't too much hidden with Princess. Note that you really should do the calculations to see if Princess Plus would save you money. Check out this video for all the details: ruclips.net/video/gf6J9atoJrc/видео.html Thanks for watching!

    So much more relaxing to stay at a resort. Cruising has become nothing more than a treasure hunt on the high seas. I want to relax, not wait in line for the next activity or the next meal. I know it is rude but I cant stand the average cruise passenger. They annoy the F' out of me. Everything is about the hunt. They are all hunting for something that only can be found on a psychologist's sofa. Lets deal with our problems and stop trying to gamble them away on a cruise ship.

    • @TidalHorizons
      @TidalHorizons 15 дней назад

      The gambling is off the charts, I agree. If you've seen other videos of mine, you'll see how annoyed I get about the Bingo onboard. The Casino operator is raking it in hand over fist. I have a new video coming out in the next couple of weeks on the changes to Star Princess over Sun which will include comments about the Casino. Yes, resorts are relaxing, but for me personally, I don't generally travel to relax. It's more about either getting somewhere or exploring a few places that I want to visit, the ship is just transportation and accommodation. It all depends on what you are looking for I guess! I certainly don't find Princess passengers as annoying as some other cruise lines. Take care and thanks for watching!

    • @HissingKitty2008
      @HissingKitty2008 9 дней назад

      I imagine I’m not your typical cruise passenger. For one I don’t gamble. I spend my time on the ship reading and gazing out at the sea. I do everything on my own time, and don’t rush to do any of the ships activities. We rarely even attend shows. It’s the combination of the scenery and the motion of the ship, I find captivating.

    I’ve cruised 11 times with Princess. Traditional dining has always been horrible for the first couple of nights at the start of any voyage. Long and confused lineups even booking reservations had been done way ahead on the app prior to boarding. I’ll wait and see if the new phone reservation offering will remedy, if any, the well-known problem.

    • @TidalHorizons
      @TidalHorizons 15 дней назад

      Yes, the first night of traditional dining has always been a pain point! That's almost a topic in itself, but it's the one night that I'm not showing up right at the seating time. You'll find me either first in line of waiting at the bar for the line to die down. If cruise lines want to fix that, they need to take a page out of Disney Cruise Line's book and see how they do it with the restaurant rotation. One of the biggest problems that they face is that people don't properly join their cruise reservations together for dining. This is done using a "TWID" in the back end, make sure your Travel Agent does this!!! Thanks for watching.

    I've travelled solo on Princess twice (Fall 2023 and Spring 2024) and board the Island in two weeks. For each I've reserved a table for dinner by myself at 8:20. That's worked so far. I've also eaten at Crown Grill and Sabatini's on my first two trips. I am curious to see how it goes on the Island, which has only 2 MDR'S with one serving both reserved any-time and walk-ups. Will I have to wait on a long line with many walk-ups? Is 8:20 so late that there won't be lines any way? Will spots be available at CG and S or will they all be grabbed by Premium package holders? Will there be fewer folks in the MDR'S because many more are going to the specialties? All waits to be seen. I like going to the 7:30 show and then having a quiet but efficient dinner on my own, with service not slown down by the need for everyone to finish his course before the next can be served. And while I do enjoy meeting others, this introverted boy's energy for the effort of keeping up conversation can wane by the end of the day.

    • @TidalHorizons
      @TidalHorizons 15 дней назад

      It sounds like you've found a sweet spot for yourself. For sure, after about 7:30pm, it's not much of a wait for a table. I think you'll find that even though Island only has the two dining rooms, it won't be an issue. She's one of my favorite ships, I spent a month onboard her in 2023.

    I loved it when they brought in any time dining but then on some ships it got incredibly crowded between the six and seven, we don't like eating later than 730. On the last two cruises we have been on what is now called sanctuary class and that was amazing a dedicated dining room that you could go at any time, we nearly always sat at the same table had the same waiters so for us it was the best of both worlds. I would like to see more Oriental and Indian speciality dining rooms like they have on PO. Going to head to the future princess is going down the ship within the ship I can see that some of the speciality dining will be sectioned off for those who have sanctuary class. Or to give it its old term first, second and steerage class.

    • @TidalHorizons
      @TidalHorizons 15 дней назад

      I do worry a bit about the ship within a ship concept and a return to the class system. We've had the suite and reserve class around for a number of years now, and it hasn't made much of a difference overall. I think the "Premier" seating in the theatre for the production shows highlights it more than anything. Onboard Sun Princess this summer, we were in the Reserve restaurant which was nice but I it was a lucky bid upgrade from a balcony room to a mini-suite that just happened to be reserve. It was nice but I really do miss meeting people with the traditional dining. Thanks for watching!

    I am often a solo cruiser, and I value the Traditional Dining Seated with Other Guests--my table becomes my tribe for the duration of the sailing. I have no complaints about the MDR food, and no desire to eat in a Specialty restaurant. Aside from the cost, eating with my table each night is a priority for me.

      Food brings people together, and when we cruise with others, everyone does what they want until dinner, that's when we all come together and discuss what has been happening. Traditional dining is good for groups, couples, and solo cruisers. The MDR is a good place to get back together and the Wait Staff gets to know what you want, very quickly.

    Most of the lines have jacked up their prices on everything,...and are now going to jack them up even more because people were still willing to pay. I assume they will continue to do this until people start to back off,....Fortunately, you can still get some cruises where things are included, we got drink and food packages included of NCL, Princes, and Celebrity for 2025,...Royal Caribbean ?????? nope, Drink package hasnt been under $81.99 PD PP since we booked back in February of 2024. We will NOT be purchasing at that price,...ads nearly $1,000.00 to our 6 night cruise. We have also found this year that Specialty dinning is a rip off, I can get a better steak at Applebees for less than what the ships charge in SD rooms,.....SD's also have EXTREMELY limited selections now. We only pick the best options in MDR then head to the Buffet. Variety is what we look for when eating. If we want a really good meal,...we eat on shore.

      Not much to argue with here! You are completely correct, Carnival Corp has basically said exactly that, they will continue to see prices increase to see where that limit is and won't add more space (ships) until they see where that demand is. As a shareholder in Carnival, that's great but not so much as a passenger. Princess Plus is a good deal but I guarantee there is a price increase coming. RCL? Not only are their drink packages expensive, they are really expensive a-la-carte too. A couple of years ago, my family sailed Harmony of the Seas and immediately got onto a Carnival ship afterwards. I couldn't believe the difference in price. I just hope that Carnival Corp isn't planning on playing catchup with RCL. I do avoid the steakhouse personally, but for the channel, I'll go. I generally have no complaints with value for money when I go to Sabatini's. We also really enjoyed the Teppanyaki restaurant onboard Sun Princess. Enjoy your cruises, it sounds like you have a busy year!

    Booking at the right time is the most important way to save. Wife booked us a Junior Suite + Princess Plus & $150.00 credit each on deck #8 sailing Jan. 2025, $1,400.00 each. The current price is $2335.00 and does NOT include Princess Plus and credit is only $50.00 for the cabin.

      Hey Anthony. I haven't booked with Viator for a long time, my go-to is Shore Excursions Group (see link the descriptions of the videos). I find that Viator just has so many competing options that it's hard to make sense of what might be good vs. not so good. Shore Excursions Group tends to curate theirs a little more and has better customer service. I've never had a bad experience with them. Good to see you here!

    I think the next Cunard ship should be a smaller ship, but a traditional liner It will also be their 250th vessel (think about that - let that sink in - no pun intended- it’s mad) should get a traditional non queen name! But the reality is - the queen name sells

    • @TidalHorizons
      @TidalHorizons 22 дня назад

      I would love for them to go back to the "ithia" names, there was some speculation that they were going to do that for Queen Anne. A smaller liner type vessel, under 2000 passengers would be ideal for world exploration. I'd be all over that.

      @TidalHorizons 21 день назад

      I like the words elegant and sophisticated and I wish that Cunard would use those rather than luxury. Full disclosure, I'll be using them in future videos! I think you'll find pricing for Cunard on par with Princess for equivalent staterooms in most cases unless you are upgrading to "the Grills" aka suites. I hope you get to enjoy Cunard soon!

    Found this channel today and like that it’s informative and not gimmicky. I’m a budget Princess cruiser and I’m always looking for more tips. Here are a couple of mine: 1. Don’t book Plus or Premier when you book the cruise unless there is a specific promotion you get for doing it. It rolls the package into the fare and you’ll never remember what the fare was itemized separately so you could price watch. Also, that means you’ll pay insurance on the whole amount, if you buy their insurance, rather than just the cruise. Also precludes you from getting a deal on a package later (though I’ve seen 0 deals on them) 2. Do the math on each cruise. Sometimes Plus works out for us, sometimes it doesn’t. Add up the value of what you personally use to assess this. Also, if you add Plus a month before you sail, you’re not forced to pay for it months in advance. 3. Don’t get caught up in fomo: so many people spend so much extra on the cruise to do what others want to do. Art. Excursions. Spa. Specialty dining. Just do you.

    Do you need to pre book any of the wine tastings or are you able to just show up at the scheduled time to participate?

    • @TidalHorizons
      @TidalHorizons 27 дней назад

      Ideally you should pre-book the wine tastings through your server or sommelier in advance so they know you are coming. The basic Grapevine tasting should be able to accommodate walk-ups, but the more advanced ones or paired with a meal need to be reserved. That said, you could always try!

      Just like your passport, don’t pack your Medallion in your checked luggage. I suggest that you wear your Medallion on your way to the cruise port. You will need it during your check in process at the cruise port before you board. Princess will provide a lanyard included as part of your Medallion order. I like to my watch band accessory I purchased for the Medallion. It is more convenient than the lanyard. My wife likes her Medallion bracelet accessory as well. We got them both from Princess a while ago - there are probably more purchase options from Amazon these days. The lanyard will work just fine if you don’t want to spend any extra. Have a great cruise.

    ...I have cruised 31 times with Princess Cruises....the most recent was this summer of 2024 in Europe...Princess has now but one goal...the maximization of profits...it has cut out most of the benefits passengers use to enjoy. at fair or no cost...it has less employees...the food was ordinary.....I felt like a squeezed lemon,....it will be my last cruise with Princess Cruises and with the Cruising industry in general...

    • @TidalHorizons
      @TidalHorizons Месяц назад

      Absolutely, that's what they are going for, but they are far from profit, a ton of debt to pay off. The one thing a few people have said is about benefits that they've cut or put a price on. I can't really put my finger on much that they've cut that was a real benefit? I've asked commenters for what they are thinking about before and no answer. Chocolates on pillows and individual bottles of shampoo, soaps and toiletries is about all I can think of. Anyone else?

      I definitely don't agree that there are too many restaurants, it's a really nice balance of different styles of food and none of them take up a ton of space. The theatre I think is because of the design of the ship, it's traditional. Have a look at my review of the Silver Nova, it's more innovative in it's layout which allowed for a theatre space. I've heard since I cruised that the Entertainment has improved.

Pretty much their standard sale these days. Recommendation is to book early though, they've really started to front-load their sales and remove them as they get closer to final payment.
