The Highlights and The Disappointments Of The 2022 NASCAR Season
Ford was lacking in development for years. Penske had Logano and Keselowski for a while so they never needed to make moves. They simply developed Blaney for themselves and then dipped out of the lower series. SHR had some drivers come up for themselves but they also had four veterans for a long time. Then they pushed everyone they had up as guys retired. Roush dipped out of the lower series a while ago. Thorsport has gone back and forth between Toyota and Ford for a while now. But with Front Row starting up a truck series team, Stewart leaving and Haas making the team more developmental, Thorsport returning and AM Racing seemingly being a spot for Harrison to develop (seems like Ford didn't want to lose him permanently) it seems Ford is doing now what Chevy and Toyota have been. Developing new drivers, except they're doing it at the right time. Logano and Keselowski are probably not going to race too much longer, maybe a few years at most. They have a bunch of young guys who might not pan out. So developing guys to step up if needed is absolutely crucial right now. Start with a few because you don't want too many guys with nowhere to go, but as guys retire, fizzle out or move on start plugging in the next runner up.
Yeah, this really is the right time for Ford to be doing this. I think Brad retires a few years before Logano, but they do have some aging drivers on the Cup side of things. Need to start now so they are ready when they are needed
Well, that could have been a third victory for Juan Pablo Montoya but a bad move from the last curve made Mark Martin win.
If steve would have stayed and dale didn’t get hurt and stayed healthy from 14-till the end he could have won alot more races.
For me it's ambrose or stewart
@koiithepuppeteer love the Ambrose appreciation. Made a video a while back breaking down his stats and making the case that he might be the GOAT of road courses in NASCAR. The stats he put up in mid tier equipment were just unreal. Super under appreciated driver
@RuffMotorsports93 I didn't really like him in supercars but i feel he was ment for nascar
@ can’t speak to super cars very well, but I certainly loved having him in NASCAR
Every driver from 1982 until 2015ish. Mass exodus of the true talent.
I grew up watching the legends along with real racing, it'll never be anywhere close to the same
Also if it wasn’t for Haas in the Xfinity series the team may have switched manufacturers considering it has Toyota ties in F1
It still wouldn’t shock me if that happens in the next few years. Not that I think it is the most likely thing to happen, but I think it is something that certainly could happen
Ford needs a presence in the Xfinity series so this benefits everyone. Think of Haas as an Xfinity team with a Cup car instead of the other way around.
@@John-kx3ng I agree, I think that’s the best way to think of them at this point. And really, there is nothing wrong with that in my mind
One of the worst calls in NASCAR history
Nascar is not the same! I'm a Dale Earnhardt fan
I miss those race cars. Matt Kenseth was my favorite.
@@joshchilds1473 Gen 4 was peak NASCAR
Those cars were very well racey And they were allowed to work on the body and suspension. This new car is a joke.
Carl Edwards Jeff Gordon Kurt Busch
They should have a pathway from ARCA to Cup. They can start with Rette Jones and AM in ARCA, then you have the FRM truck team and possibly Reaume but I think they have a long way to go to becoming a competitive teammate. In Xfinity you have AM, Haas and Rette Jones and then finally, you have cup.
I think that’s the ideal path. I just don’t think they have a strong enough structure or investment in place for it to be exactly that at this point, but I would love to see some sort of system like that.
I am a ford guy and I work for a ford dealership. I approve of this.
Approve of the moves they are making?
@ Yes
Cool. Like I said in the video, I’m a Toyota guy, not a Ford guy, but I like that Ford is making these moves because I think NASCAR is healthier when all of its manufacturers are at the top of their game
Ford is by far the worst driver development program and their depth for drivers is low. And they shoot themselves in the foot. Like not being able to retain Briscoe and being so upset at Zane Smith that they almost didn't take him back.
Oh like I said in the video, I have been very critical of Ford’s driver development in the past. I certainly think they have the weakest program of the three manufacturers. But I think this is a very good step in the right direction. You’re right though, Briscoe is a serious loss (I’m expecting him to win at least a couple of races at JGR this year) and it was wild to me that they almost let pettiness get in the way of success with Zane
Great video!
Thank you! It’s been a while since I’ve done anything on current events, but I was thinking about this the other day and wanted to see what other people thought!
Taking Haas from four cup cars down to just one could allow them to allocate the resources to be Ford's main development team. So Ford could have a structure that prioritizes Cup teams Penske and RFK, Xfinity team Haas, and Truck team FRM, while Haas and FRM also have cup teams as to avoid the toyota logjam.
I think that is exactly the right strategy for them. Toyota’s biggest problem is its logjam, which has gotten a bit better in the last couple of years, but is still a bit of a problem. I mean, did Creed or Chandler Smith really have a real shot at a Cup Series ride with a Toyota team? I really don’t think so.
@@RuffMotorsports93If they set the xfinity field on fire, yes. But Creed can't get a win (chevy dumped him for the same thing) and Chandler doesn't win enough to overcome his blatant maturity issues.
@RuffMotorsports93 maybe the tricon 56 car that truex is driving could become an additional Toyota cup car down the road. I'd like to see Corey Heim get some races in that car this season.
Maybe it will be in the long run, but I think Toyota’s focus needs to be on Legacy for right now in the Cup Series. I think Heim likely ends up at Legacy in a couple of years or maybe in the 11 if Denny steps away to focus on ownership sooner than I think he will
Do you think Haas Factory Team will play a key role in Ford’s future in NASCAR? Or is this team just a marketing tool for Gene Haas?
Marketing for Hass machine shop and a tax write off
I think that is how he probably sees it (or at least 60% of how he sees it) based on his comments but I think there’s a chance that it could be both if Ford decides to make the team a useful tool for themselves and make it financially beneficial for him in the process. Two sides may have different goals but are able to work to each others benefit
they could play a key role, provided they *stay* a ford team.
That remaining with Ford bit is the big if for me. Like I said in the video, I wouldn’t be shocked if Toyota tried peeling them off if they decide they want to expand again. Also, I would think Haas would be a prime target for any potential fourth manufacturer coming in
Tony Stewart, Mark Martin, Ryan Newman, Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Steve Park almost got his repeat win at 2 though 2 tame
Trevor Bayne's 2011 Daytona 500 win after his 20 year birthday and saving the Wood Brothers Team
Added to the list !
All-time greats !
Earnhardt! Seriously bro, where the hell is Earnhardt Sr
So, he would be on the list but, I didn’t start following NASCAR until October of 2001, just months after he died. So I just missed getting to watch him (much to my eternal disappointment). Sure, no one watching this video would ever be able to prove I never watched him, but I would know I was lying about it and feel disrespectful for it
Unfortunately, because of his stupidity on the track he's now planted 6 ft. under !! Had he been up there trying to win the 2001 Daytona 500 instead of doing all that blocking he would probably still be racing !! With all the blocking that goes on I'm surprised that there haven't been a lot more killed since Dale's wreck !! After his death & my NASCAR hero Gordon retiring I lost all interest in the sport !! Had rather watch reruns of those great races of the 70's-90's than this crap nowadays !! Thanks to the idiot officials in charge the sport has gone to hell in a handbasket !! You can watch a race nowadays & in the grandstands there are empty seats everywhere !! The sport is like the Old Grey Mare--"IT SURE AS HELL AIN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE" !!!🏁🏁
You forgot Terry and Bobby Lebonte
Stay tuned for more!
6:00 also that "lifetime contract" he'd signed with hendrick. which is still 🤨 wtf why
Conceptually, I agree with you, the idea of a lifetime contract is wild. There would have to be an immense amount of trust that the driver is going to retire at the appropriate time. But in this case, it seems to have worked out.
@RuffMotorsports93 yea, lifetime contract that you can't re-negotiate the pay or conditions? Oh but then you have an owner that just owns you, it sounds like the makings of somebody would fake their death to get out of it
4:04 for a short time the labonte brothers were teammates? Also Terry's return to driving the #11 as he did before for junior johnson
me too even dale Earnhardt and cale Yarborough Mr STP and a bunch more
You missed the wild open cars and drivers era ,do some researching and make a proper video; ☠️
When McMurray returned to ganassi he and Montoya shoulda switched That way Jamie was back in his 42, and that puts Juan in the one car
That’s actually would’ve been interesting to see
1:58 don't ever do that shit. It's better to ask any actual human to draw something with broken crayons than that garbage. It's still Go Real Or Go Home
Yep! The new guys are not the same...
Yeah, there are a lot of problems across NASCAR today but I think one of the big ones that takes away from drivers’ showing personality. Tony Stewart said in an interview at one point that back in the early 2000s there were more Fortune 500 companies that wanted to be on cars than there were cars in the field. Today, that money is basically impossible to get, so I I’d say they have to keep personalities contained out of fear of losing funding. And that takes away from the sport
I quit watching after Tony retired.. I miss it but it’s not the same..
I grew up a Tony Stewart fan, I miss watching him on Sundays

Oh I don’t think I can bring myself to do the 07 Daytona 500. I was cheering For Mark so hard in that moment…
@@RuffMotorsports93 yeah. youre right, but it was rcrs first win at daytona since dale srs passing
Acutally his last win came in 2011 Las Vegas Nationwide race and drove Reed Sorenson's #32 Yellow Submarine car
He and Carl had a few moments. Nobody cried. They raced hard. ❤
The fact that Logano won the title with a 17.4 avg. finish, proves 2 things 1. This playoff system is abysmal and should not exist 2. We should get the Sprint Cup system back.
I would settle for the original 10 driver chase format from 04, but I’d really rather go back to the Winston Cup format
Moobs would have loved this short!
I think that if Dodge cannot come back, we should get the Pontiac. Really good car
We was my favorite driver while he raced.Pound per pound the toughest most fit driver of his time. When Mark retired I pulled for Carl Edwards! I guess Ryan Blaney is my favorite now
I’m a little less than half his age and in pretty good shape and yet Mark Martin is to this day more jacked than I ever have been or likely will be
Those where some really good race cars in that era. Very great competition. I was a fan then. I was a kenseth fan. ❤
The gen 4 era was peak NASCAR, change my mind haha
He went backwards on race day
No Dale?

@RuffMotorsports93 oh that makes sense, instartednwatching in 2016, but watching him or reading bought him on old races is sick
I like mark but imagine if brad k was in that car and had years like that 5 car did mark the kid martin. Also means brad doesnt help joey get the 22 lol
@@roymcdre9180 as much as I love Mark Martin, I actually will give you that point. The Mark Martin of 10-11 was not the same as 09 Mark. The original plan was that Mark would run full time for the 09 season and then split the car with Brad in 10 so they could work him into that seat full-time. I think NASCAR looks different if they stuck to that plan. I’ve actually thought of making a video on that before
