That’s unfortunate, I’d really hate to see the all of the talent get poached from a series like that, but I wouldn’t mind seeing some new talented faces in NASCAR. Especially if they add one or two more road courses in, which I think they should.
Marcos Ambrose equaled the record of wins at Watkins Glen with mid-tier equipment, a record that was held by Terry Labonte, a HOF driver. Honestly, I would've loved for Ambrose to go somewhere like Roush or Gibbs, but given how stacked those teams already were, his options were limited.
Oh yeah, a lot of the top teams were definitely too stacked to give him a shot. But given how good he was in mid-tier equipment, I think he’d be basically unbeatable at Watkins Glen in top tier equipment
@@RuffMotorsports93 I still remember the 2011 Montreal race, he was fighting toe to toe with Jacques Villeneuve in the front row and I was bummed out when he got caught in that wreck caused by Villeneuve going wide at Turn 1. What does he do afterwards? He proceeds to drive back up to the front, overtaking the whole the field and take the lead and then never look back to finally win at Montreal. Ambrose was a MONSTER at road courses, especially Montreal and Watkins Glen. Good video by the way, and thank you for shining the spotlight on Marcos, he's easily one of the most underrated road course aces of the modern era.

Great video, it would be very interesting to see how Ambrose would go in modern NASCAR machinery and for better teams. I am an avid Supercars fan so if u have any questions just let me know. I think Ambrose was one of the best we’ve seen (especially in that era) matching and even for two seasons beating Holden Racing Team and Mark Skaife in their prime, but SVG is probably one of the best of all time and achieved more results at a later age, when he got the chance to race for championship winning equipment. Ambrose had a lot of success early in his career but with his team Stone Brothers Racing declining quickly in performance in the mid to late 2000s after his departure I think he would of struggled to match SVG’s wins over his entire career. I am also enjoying learning alot more about NASCAR ahead of SVG’s full time debut.
First of all, thank you for the compliment on the video! Second of all, I love the name and profile picture, I’m a huge Star Wars fan myself, and would love to have a fandom channel one day, but I figure I should be able to grow and be successful with one channel before trying to move on to others. And thank you for the insight into Supercars. I had to talk about it a little for this, but I really was nervous to go any deeper than the very surface layer. Everything you said is stuff that I wouldn’t have known to really take into consideration and I really didn’t want to make a fool of myself and a mockery of the Supercars series by saying something really ridiculous. SVG’s arrival into NASCAR is something I’m very excited about because, even in the small sample size we got of him in the US, it’s easy to see that he’s the real deal. I think he’ll have a lot of success and I’m excited to watch him run the full Xfinity season. I’d be happy to exchange notes with you on NASCAR and Supercars if you’re trying to learn about NASCAR as well. I guess I’m really looking for the best place to start with Supercars.
Thanks, that’s a definitely a great idea about creating a Star Wars channel. Considering that you haven’t seen much Supercars I thought your knowledge was quite good, and it was cool to hear a NASCAR channel discuss Supercars series and comparisons between SVG and Ambrose, considering you channel is NASCAR based I’d say that you covered the important information very well. It will interesting to see how quickly it takes SVG to adapt to Xfinitiy series and ovals given his lack of oval experience, which correct me if I’m wrong but the Xfinity car is similar to the old gen Cup series car, so it will potentially add additional difficulty. However, SVG is very good at adapting to varying categories such as open wheelers, sprint cars and rally cars he has had success in. If you are looking to learn about the Supercars series, I’d recommend watching Top Supercars moments videos, Skaife and Ambrose rivalry highlights, top SVG Supercars moments videos, and Bathurst replays and season reviews on Supercars RUclips channel. There is also probably a 2023 season highlights recap vid, which shows the championship battle between Brodie Kostecki and SVG, which Kostecki recently beat SVG to the championship victory
Thanks, I’ll have to check all of that out. I’m also quite interested to see how Kostecki and Cam Waters do, but I know basically nothing about either of them, and Waters wasn’t announced for RFK Racing until after this video was made. So that’s why those two guys aren’t mentioned in this video. If they do well along with SVG, then it is going to help to forge an amazing relationship between NASCAR and Supercars in the future. It looks like Kyle Busch is looking to run a Supercars race next year too. One thing I did to prepare for this video was listen to a couple of podcast interviews that Ambrose has done in the last few years. It gave me a little bit of background info to work with for the video so I didn’t say anything totally off base. As far as SVG’s adaptation to Xfinity cars go, there are some pros and cons to him running the full Xfinity season. The Xfinity cars according to a lot of drivers (obviously not a driver myself) are really their own animal and very different from the Cup cars. The Trucks are more similar to the Cup cars than the Xfinity cars, but the style and level of competition in the Xfinity Series will likely do a better job preparing him for the Cup Series than a Truck Series season could. I SVG has already proven that he can drive a Cup car on a road course, so at this point it is more important for him to learn about the style of competition in the US and the basics of racing on ovals than learning the specifics of the cars themselves considering how different the Xfinity and Cup cars are. I think a season in the Xfinity series will be good for that as long as he focuses on applying the competition lessons he learns and not the specific car lessons, but I’m sure he has people telling him that. I usually think drivers coming over from other forms of racing should run two Xfinity seasons, but I think SVG might be an exception to that because he isn’t coming from open wheel like a lot of other drivers did in the past and his sheer level of talent. I do think that Trackhouse picked a very good schedule of Cup racing for him to run this year. There is a very good sampling of different types of tracks for him to run. A couple of intermediates and super speedways to go with a few road course races, though it may be good for them to add a short track or two.
I agree a successful relationship between NASCAR and Supercars would be mutually beneficial for both series, and I would love to see both categories having drivers switch series. It will be interesting to see how waters goes, because he is still quite young and even though he’s yet to win a championship, he has done well given the Tickford racing team has been inconsistent. Kostecki has actually lived and raced in the US years ago to race Stock cars so it will be interesting to see how he goes. Thanks for the info about X finity series, I agree one season is quite short to adapt, but I guess given his age if he wants to ever challenge for the championship he probably needs to get into the cup series quite quickly
Yep! There were a lot of drivers that tried their hand at NASCAR in the mid 2000s to early 2010s that really rushed things and a lot of them really suffered in terms of success because of it. Sam Hornish Jr tried moving over from IndyCar having never run a full Xfinity season, and I’d argue he’d be a lot more success had he run at least one full year in the Xfinity Series first. Danica Patrick only ran one Xfinity season and I’d argue she would’ve benefited in the long run from running a second, but everyone wanted her in Cup, so she got rushed up. Ambrose was one of the most successful of the drivers who tried their hand at NASCAR and like I said in the video, he ran a full Truck Series season and two full Xfinity Series seasons before making the jump to Cup full time. He took his time and was more thoroughly prepared for the Cup Series than any of the other drivers and it showed in his results. He was much more successful than most.
VanGisbergen will light up the NASCAR circuit and in my opinion and as a Ford fan he's got more talent than Ambrose and is the most diverse driver in the last decade or even in the 21st century
I actually have a lot of faith in SVG as a NASCAR fan. What we saw out of him at Chicago was something to behold, then he was able to back it up with a 10th at Indy, a track where the other drivers had actually raced before. I think he’ll get things figured out pretty well here.
Ambrose was best at tracks like Phillip Island and watkins glen very is similar. Svg only won one more supercars championship then Ambrose and Ambrose was robbed in 2015 of Bathurst (with the balaclava incident) and the championship. I say they're equal but svg has done more in nascar and his racecraft is second to none
