    I have a rumour that I’ve heard of:
    When Rusty Wallace was going to retire at the end of 2005, Kurt Busch was tapped in to replace him in the blue duce. But a rumour went around that Kurt could sign for Chip Ganissi Racing’s 40 car, and that the 2 car would have gone to Travis Kvapil. Could you imagine that!

    • @RuffMotorsports93
      @RuffMotorsports93  5 месяцев назад +9

      I had never heard Kvapil to the 2 car, but that would have been wild in my mind! I would have loved to see the 2 car go to Jamie McMurray though and apparently that could’ve happened. I have a whole video on that

      Oh god as a kurt busch fan that would of been a disaster especially of what we know how he acted wouldn't of gone down well and travis in his alone season in the 77 car 33rd in points was bad enough imagine that in the #2

      @@RuffMotorsports93 I'm not saying it's the reason, because it all traces back to the Erin Crocker/Mayfield scandal. But Kyle could have been the saving grace for a team on the verge of loosing sponsors. Kasey was really good but a build up frustration was beginning with that stuff.

      @@PaperBanjo64 my gut tells me they still would have. Red Bull was still around for a while after Gibbs went to Toyota. On the Penske Toyota rumor… Penske had been a team that was linked with Toyota before Toyota officially announced the move to NASCAR, and at the time Penske was running Toyota engines in IndyCar.

    • @RuffMotorsports93
      @RuffMotorsports93  5 месяцев назад

      I hadn’t remembered that. Penske would’ve been a prized target for sure. I’d argue they were more of a B tier team at the time, but that would’ve been a lot better than what Toyota had coming out of the gate. I think it is interesting to think about Penske having the trajectory that Gibbs eventually had.

      So I always chalked that up (with absolutely no proof, but it’s what I like to tell myself) that that number was the consolation Stewart got from Haas. If memory serves, Stewart thought they were struggling with 3 cars and was against the idea of adding a fourth. Then while he’s recovering from a broken leg, Haas goes out and signs Busch for a fourth car. Haas seemed to be in love with 00, but I imagine he gave the number yo Stewart saying “fine, I know you didn’t want this, but I’ll at least let you match all of the numbers together”. Again, no proof or evidence that that is really the reason for the number, but I like to imagine it happening that way

    I don't think David Reutiman would have been the odd man out. He was a promising prospect. I think he stays on with Jarrett opting to go part time and sharing the 44 with other potential prospects while Waltrip steps back.
    Clint Bowyer might still go to Penske-Waltrip Motorsports but truex probably doesn't.
    But there is one more HUGE change that might not happen. Gibbs might not have gone to Toyota, which means Tony Stewart stays. SHR never forms so who knows if Harvick leaves RCR or even wins a championship.

      Yeah, the Penske-Waltrip merger changes A LOT I think. No SHR, no Gibbs with Toyota.
      I do agree with you that Reuitmann was a solid prospect, but I think the reason why he is the odd man out (at least temporarily, maybe they send him to the Xfinity Series), is because Dale Jarrett had the champion’s provisional, which Toyota really wanted at the time
