great vid, can i use my stock radio handset with this set up?
@@LazerFingers not entirely sure, but I doubt it. Traxxas probably wont allow pass through on their esc/rx. I think the original scx24 electronics may be able to do it if you are using those.
Probably grinding them in with payoff for them. But I think there's just not enough squish. Which does seem to be a very common thing with the 24th's. I think not having enough of a contact patch and not enough of the tire wrapping on the surface is leaving a lot on the table in terms of performance. It's a matter of getting the squish AND having sidewalls that don't cave in. The golden ratio! LOL! When I get time I've got some ideas to dive into tire squish and contact patch size. Great vid Phil! Love the SCX24 stuff!
Thanks, appreciate your comments. The Injora silicone inserts are great and really help with the squish, but they are quite bulky in themselves, so the tyres only squash down about halfway. The improved sidewall stiffness means that they are still way better than the foams, but you are right that there is a limitation on the squish and therefore the contact area available. 🤙
I don't need it, but man, I think I'm gonna have to cave in and get on of those body's. Injora really did well with them.
One thing I'd like to know is if the motor wires that seem to be on a tab, sticking out sideways from the motor can be bent flat? Would be nice for some fitment situations. As is it sticks out quite a bit.
@@wingnutbert9685 this seems to be the same issue for all of them. On my furitek I warmed up the heat shrink and moulded that a little, but it still stuck out. I’ve had drone motors before that had solder pads instead of joined wires, much better for this application.
That out door bit looks like your right out my window! LOL! Only a few thousand miles away!
It’s a great little spot, one I should visit more often. You’d never know it is a stones throw away from one of the busiest roads in the UK!
Windows only.......schit! Only have Linux.......Android?
Yep, that’s what I thought. Don’t think it will run on Linux or Android, unless you have some sort of simulator? Sorry. I will reach out to Injora though and check/ask.
@@PhilBrindley Thanks Phil. Bit of an oversight on their part. Be nice if they had an app. Even if it just allowed plugging the tuning module to your phone. Fingers crossed. I've got mine sitting in the box. Hoping to shoehorn it into my MB24 build. Thanks again! Bert
@@wingnutbert9685 I've reached out to Injora, so will let you know. In the meantime, I've been doing some research and think that the MBL32 ESC is running on AM32 firmware. If so, there is both a web-based configurator and a Linux configurator. I tried the web one, and although it did connect to the ESC, it didn't read the config properly. I now need to check it on the Windows PC in the boy's room to ensure it's not cooked! 😳 So maybe worth a look, but at your own risk 🤔
Actually, I can't be sure that this is running AM32 so I'm going to say probably don't try this. It's not caused any issue with mine, but also it would not properly connect to read the settings. Time to stop tinkering before I do irreparable damage! 🤣
@@PhilBrindley Thanks Phil! I'll look it up and I hope your ESC isn't fried!
Great video Phil. Keep on crawling!
Thanks, will do! 🤙
Great video Phil thanks! Would be curious to know if the fat viper transmission combo would work well with the Quicrun Mini 24 ESC?
Thanks for watching. They will certainly work together, and have the same connections so will be plug and play in that sense. You might have to tinker with the settings on the Mini24 to get the best out of the motor. Maybe I'll give it a try over the Xmas holidays! Will let you know if I do. 🤙
Do they make an adapter to use the stock traxxas battery on this kit?
@@rogerbahr9117 hobbywing doesn’t as far as I know, but Injora does (of course they do! 🤣) www.injora.com/products/injora-xt30-to-jst-rcy-jst-ph2-0-trx-4m-t-style-ec3-battery-adapter-cable
@PhilBrindley wouldn't it need to be traxxas to Male JST PH2.0 and not the xt30?
@@rogerbahr9117 Yes, it would. Although I would swap the PH2.0 over to an XT30 on the ESC (as I did) as that is a more reliable connector and opens up a raft of other battery options. (Nothing's ever 100% simple though, is it 🤪)

Injora pinion is 0.4 mod don't you need 0.3 for it to work?
It is indeed, straight fit on the TRX4M as its spur is also 0.4. Would need 0.3 for SCX24 (which could be challenging to find) or a conversion kit. There are some links further down the comments in response to @Danielxperez14. 🤙
Thanks I'll look into it
Learned much from this video ❣
Glad to hear it was helpful ❤
do you know where i can buy the pinion for it? .3 mod 12t for 2mm shaft is hard to find for scx24
@@Danielxperez14 closest I can find is MoFoRC at 13t. moforc.com/products/copy-of-hardened-steel-pinion-gears?srsltid=AfmBOoorBNBQBwKf6kXHMkZAEDT56kV8xO10ug0_iBXcWys7zrTPcgmE
@@Danielxperez14 another option is a 0.5mod conversion. Swap out the spur gear and pinion at the same time. furitek.com/products/furitek-brushless-conversion-for-scx24-0-5m-spur-gear-and-12t-pinion-gear?variant=39358985371738
@ thanks!
Looks very interesting Phil it seems aimed more 1/18th traxxas . What is that chassis/body called and where can I get one . I'll have to treat myself to something 1/18th I've got the Capra and really like it . A good honest informative review again 👍👍
It’s aimed at 1/24th as well, but won’t bolt straight on to an SCX24 gearbox. Not sure about others at that scale. The body/chassis is a MEUS ripper. Looks super cool, but as with all tube chassis designs it’s very difficult to build and work on. For someone like me that is always chopping and changing parts it’s a bit of a nightmare tbh.
Hi Phil what battery did you use
They are GNB HV 450mah stick batteries that I use in some of my small drones. www.hobbyrc.co.uk/gnb-450mah-2s-80c-lihv-battery-xt30
Man, now I’m looking forward to breaking the driveline on MY 24th scale rig! Lol
Nooo, don't say that! From what I have seen they are not a direct fit for the SCX24. You would need a Furitek, or similar, motor mount.
Hi Phil. I have a Furitek Cayman V2 Pro. When I bought the haviest Injora brass rims and 70mm tyres, it could go up 60° steep hills due to the center of gravity. BUT the stock motor-esc-combo is not strong enough, so that it is cogging at hills steeper 45°. Do you think the hobbywing system you showed can handle the weight of 0.8kg of the vehicle smoothly also at steep slopes. Greetings Ferdi
@@ferdinandmaier1070 I feel pretty sure that it could. I’ve transferred it to my IR40 build which weighs 658g and that’s no problem for it.
Main reason I went with hobbywing esc , easier to program and slightly smaller footprint
@@areadierc2803 the program card feels kinda dated in a way, but the simplicity of it is great. Once it’s set to my liking hardly ever change anything apart from drag brake, and hey, they’ve solved that problem perfectly.
Great video, I'm using the injora fat viper motor on the hobbywing esc . Works perfectly on 3s lipo .
Nice one, I’m going to try out the Injora ESC with the Fat Viper. Will be interesting to see how the two different approaches stack up against each other.
Shame there not that easy to fix to the scx24
And slightly ironic that you need a furitek motor mount. I suspect there is a 3d print option somewhere. But you’re right, it’s a shame it’s not a direct fit.
👍👍
Good evening again Phil I really like your honesty at the end it's refreshing that someone will test and re test just to make sure they've done a good objective review. I've just built some 1.9 class one wheels using pro line hyrax tyres with injoras 4.19 soft inserts not run them yet but they feel quite good when held in the hand etc. Keep up your fair but honest reviews and you really are getting the hang of presenting lark . Yours Geoff
@@geoffreywilliamson722 thanks Geoff. I’m all for honest reviews mate. So I’m glad that came across.
Good evening Phil sorry missed this . Another very good review and I really like the look of this body I'd snap one of these up if they ever do one in 1/10th as I think it's spot on for use on a class one rig . Having said that it's looking like I'll have to get myself an scx24 lol.
@@geoffreywilliamson722 haha, always good to see you in the comments, Geoff. Don’t buy an SCX24, build one! 😉
I think 2fm RC did a vid on tyres .tested them new and scrubbed and the results where night and day .
@@WombleRCmodelsandhobbies just been watching those and totally agree. They need scrubbing in for sure.
@@PhilBrindleycould be a follow up video 👍
@ sounds like a plan! 🤙
Probably the best small (57mm) tyre you can buy, wish they did a 63mm size
I’m liking them more with every run. They definitely need a little breaking in, but then they really come alive.
I appreciate the effort into this test/video. Thanks a bunch for sharing!
Thank you for still being here and watching. Hope you are well. 🤙
Great video, love the trenchers, they will keep getting better. I take it you vent your tires?
They certainly seem to need a little use to break in properly. I don’t generally vent tires, but the injora beadlocks are vented in this case.
I found venting makes a huge difference on 1/24 tires. Sometimes the silicone inserts block the vents on some wheels.
@@areadierc2803I’ll have to give that a try then. You are spot on about the inserts blocking the venting on the wheels though.
Good to see you back phil. Fab video. Hope all is good .
@@danrees5520 Hi Dan, all good here thanks. How are you?
I was wondering could you put a hitch on the ir40 or not?
@@heatherlee7616 if you mean a tow hitch then there is nothing on it as standard that would take a tow hitch. It’d have to be a custom job.
@@PhilBrindley okay, Thank you!!
Yeah, I just got the black one, this Sunday morning. I painted the cage after put together with chrome spray paint it basically just looks gun metal looks awesome with the black mounted it up to my. New. C10 But I need to cut the back frame rails and move the hinge mount forward about five or 6 mm right now. The body back a little too much but looks awesome.
Interesting. I can't really comment on fitting to standard rails as I don't have them. I would have assumed that it would fit perfectly though? That's the wheelbase it was designed for so seems odd that it doesn't fit right. Or are you moving it forward for a personal taste/preference thing?
My black IR60 turned out to be maybe my most capable 1/18 build. Scratch built with Injora LCG carbon chassis. Of course the body has little to nothing to do with that. The electronics are on the battery tray totally hidden with the battery in back with hidden wires. Looks like a gas tank. A sweet looking truck too.
Nice, my IR40 is probably my fave rig, but this could quickly catch up. I'm also super tempted to swap my MEUS Ripper TRX4M over to an IR60 as well now. Injora are taking over my shelves!
@@PhilBrindley The IR40 is a similar build with nice parts also build from scratch and it is what got me into TRX4M type and this scale. I say type because including the IR60, IR40, and Jeep the only thing actually Traxxas I own is a set of stock axles I bought while waiting for the diamond axles for the IR40. I have the Meus trophy truck too with a cedar and stellar and a few Meus parts that is using the stock Traxxas axles until I choose axles. I don't think I would ever buy a stock Traxxas 1/18. What is there to keep on them? I like the type and aftermarket though.
@@shockman8014 I'm totally with you there bud. I hardly touched my Bronco after it arrived. But as soon as the IR40 went on, I was all in. Changed everything except the transmission case. Wouldn't buy another, would would 100% build one. Same with the SCX24 platform for me. There is just no point buying the RTR at this stage, just build one up from aftermarket parts and save the £150.
