@@shafiqjan1474 the straight axle on the Gatekeeper works very well, but it's still a slow crawler even though it looks Ike a racer. I've got IFS on my Knightrunner and it looks great. Performs pretty well in that rig, but it's not as capable a rig as the GK or the Ecto.
@@PhilBrindley Been leaning towards the ecto, I like the overdrive and rear end so I will most likely get the RTR and gut it the right way and throw things at it and thanks again for the content.
@@shafiqjan1474 if you're going that route, take a look at the GK builders kit and the Ecto shell. Probably save you some money in the long run, and you can switch between GK and Ecto in about 3 minutes!
Good evening Phil nicely done video mate like that you didn't go through the build pretty much of a much with elements . But hell it does look good mate think you've got it spot on . I agree with you it definitely needs a wider track to counteract fact it's a bit top heavy I've seen a couple of other builds and they've both said it needs to be wider 👍👍.
Welcome and thanks. I'm sure you won't be disappointed in the kit, it's a really nice build process and the numbered bags make things very simple and allowed me to make the build process last a bit longer as I normally speed through, whereas this time held myself to 1 bag per evening. 🤣🤙
If you take out the screws that hold the front hinge on/in (the ones that hold the two fat pins that go into the gray bumper mount), the whole cage can be set aside when working on it they are not needed when cage is on and closed

You can always turn down the power to your lightbars with a separate BEC. Good looking paint! I LOVE my FlatIrons! I've been playing with that ISDT ESC70 and it works Great after updating the App and Firmware. Very Smooth. Great Active Drag Brake.
I dropped the ESC to 6v which it the lowest rating for the light bars. The small one is not terrible, but the big one I got for the roof is still super hot 😞 Got the ESC working great now (see the other vids on my channel) very happy with it. The first one I had was from an early batch and I think they had a lot of bugs. Looks like they worked them out for the more recent batches as the replacement I got was faultless. @@PhilBrindley Yeah, I got one of those 'early' ESCs also but I just upgraded the firmware about 4 times and everything is Great! Every upgrade got just a little bit better and I expect there will be more as time goes on. Don't you love the Drag Brake? Have you played with the throttle and brake curves? Those lights can run on less than 6V and it won't hurt them. I have a BEC that I can dial down to 3V and I can run LEDs without all the resistors which makes custom lighting SO much easier since different colors use different resistors. Just run them all on 3V and everything is fine.

Go for it! I think if you decide the Gatekeeper is not performant enough for crawling then turning it in to an Ecto will pretty much sort that right out! I'm hoping to do a "Gatekeeper Vs Ecto" video in the near future! 🤙

Nice video as usual. Just got my Bomber set up and it is a little backyard beast! Well, as beastly as the 35T stock motor has to offer anyway. Haha. But, I bought that truck with the idea of a backyard "rock racer", although mainly over tree roots, logs, etc., rather than too many rocks. But, now I'm thinking of adding a crawler to the mix... Was think Ecto... But, I still DO like the U4 style buggy looks.... and seeing yours may have just sealed the deal. You did an outstanding job of setting that buggy up in the looks dept.! Sooo... on the "top heavy" part... How dramatic of a difference, when compared to the Ecto, would you say that the cage makes in all around performance? What's the general consensus on the brass hub mounted wheel weights to add some weight down low and offset some of the high CG caused by the caged body?
It's a good question, and to be perfectly honest it's not easy to answer at the minute as I've not yet driven them back to back. I did take them both out together once, but had so much fun with the Gatekeeper that I didn't get around to driving the Ecto. 🤣 I would say that the cage does make it a little bit on the tippy side, most noticeable on side hills and very steep climbs. It is still surprisingly capable though, much better than I expected. I've since added some cheap deep dish rims and that has helped with the side hills. Of course, if you go with the Gatekeeper it is super easy to to just throw an Ecto body on there and it's practically a 2 for 1 deal 🤙

I have no intention of every competing at any level, so my RCs are just toys for playing around and having a little fun out in nature. So, at the end of the day, outright performance isn't as important to me as the satisfaction I get from whatever I'm using. And while the Ecto is kinda cool, I have to admit that I do prefer the look of your Gatekeeper. And then, when I compare the price of the kit vs. the RTR Ecto and all that I would replace... Well, the ledger starts tipping toward the Gatekeeper that's currently available for $239 vs. $399 for the Ecto RTR.

I have my gatekeeper crawling at a60% angle but I run mine at full droop settings and mines been upgraded plus I have full size batteries with a different battery mount and servo mount,my over drive is 25 % and I run the 1800 fusion with a 10t pinion I have low prow shock mounts,it crawls over everything and is really slow,I went for crawler and not rock bouncer

Great video. I found this just doing some research on the Gatekeeper. I bought the same ESC, ran it for about 3 days, now I'm shipping it back. The app works great, when it works and doesn't crash because it can't update the firmware. Then oddly enough after that happened my receiver burned out. Not sure if something went wonky in the software or the ESC hardware after the failed attempt to update the firmware and resulted in killing the receiver or what. I put the stock ESC back in it for now but I plan on ordering a 1080. I dont have pockets deep enough to afford the new Hobbywing Fusion / pro. I'd love to have one though but I wonder how it compares to the the Spektrum ESC system. Do you have any experience with them?
That's a total pain! Sounds like the failed update might have done something with the BEC voltage, which the put too much current to the receiver 🤬 I've not tried the Spectrum 2 in 1 (their version of the fusion) but it looks pretty much identical to me, only more expensive. I'd wholeheartedly recommend the Fusions though. I've just swapped one from my Ecto to my GSpeed rig, with the intention of putting a new 2300kv fusion in to the Ecto for a bit of extra wheel speed. If they'd just add Bluetooth to it I'd never bother with anything else again 😜 Hope you get sorted either way, but the hobbywing stuff is rock solid so I'm sure you'll be fine! Thanks for watching 🤙
That paint scheme looks really, really good. I've just got myself an RTR version (I've had to stop building kits because my carpal tunnel means I've got joints of beef for bloody hands now). I love the truck but I don't love the paint scheme so I'm looking for inspiration & yours is about my favourite so far.. I've already done the fire extinguishers, nets, spare, ESDT esc70 (they're bloody awesome & only £21 on Amazon).... Also some stamped steel deep dish wheels... The paint scheme came out well, but I'm a bit ham-fisted so it doesn't stand close scrutiny 😝 I'm considering getting a vinyl cutter so I can create better masks without hacking them up myself. The nearest RC club is over 60 miles away.! My village has about 50 people in it & none of them are into RCs.. I can occasionally find someone to have a quick race with my cars but that's the extent of my RC community.! I got into RC about 3 & a half years ago & I was thoroughly addicted right from the start.! I own around 30 RCs now of all types, cost & size. Each time I decide to try a new type of RC I spend a lot of time online researching it to find out as much as I can before buying my first mode of that type. For example my first crawler was a Sherpa & along with others, your videos helped me to make that decision... (your Sherpa series is very, very good.. @@DJCJ999 The Enduro is lighter, and has overdrive built in to the front, with 3 over drive options as standard. The TRX4 is bulletproof, and i know it will never let me down, but the Enduro gets up and over obstacles better, its that simple. Shame it doesn't have portals, it would be perfect!

Yeah, the "Ecto" I was out with is technically a Gatekeeper with a creep shell. Really like the platform in general. Knightrunner next I guess! 😜

great kits! I bought an enduro builders kit recently, and it has replaced my TRX4 as my go to crawler. Bargain!
Totally agree. This is my third element based rig, and I'm pretty sure it won't be my last either! 🤙
@@DJCJ999 The Enduro is lighter, and has overdrive built in to the front, with 3 over drive options as standard.
The TRX4 is bulletproof, and i know it will never let me down, but the Enduro gets up and over obstacles better, its that simple.
Shame it doesn't have portals, it would be perfect!
