Nim Li Punit, Belize, the Big Hat
This is part one of a two part series where I visit two sites in one day: Nim Li Punit this time and next time Lubaantun. Both of these sites are fairly small. Neither has any particularly large buildings, however, the construction methods and materials are somewhat unusual for Maya architecture. This is my first excursion in southern Belize from my base in Punta Gorda.
The name Nim Li Punit is a Kekchi Maya phrase meaning "Big Hat". You'll see why it's called that in the video. I hope you enjoy watching! Don't forget to like and subscribe if you do.

Welcome to Punta Gorda. I guess.
Просмотров 46День назад
I'm back on the road today, travelling to Punta Gorda in southeastern Belize. From there, I will travel out to some of the Maya ruins in the area. My big problem right now, though, is I need to get a phone card so I have GPS access. As you will see, it's not so easy to find the phone company. One dude in Punta Gorda seemed to not like Guatemalans much. Oh well.
It's Party Time in San Ignacio, Belize, on my last day here

On my last day in San Ignacio, I explore the town and stumble on an unexpected party. I also unexpectedly meet the brother of an earlier acquaintance. Thank you San Ignacio for a wonderful visit. See you next time in Punta Gorda!
El Caracol, Belize Part 2
Просмотров 33321 день назад
This is the second instalment of my visit to Caracol. Such an amazing Maya site. This segment contains my exploration of Plaza A and its surrounding area. Here, part of the architecture represents an E-Group structure like those in Uaxactun and Xunantunich that I mentioned in earlier videos, although it was eventually built over and is a little harder to see. You might still be able to pick it ...
El Caracol, Belize Sky Palace
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.Месяц назад
This is the first part of my visit to the Caracol Maya Archaeological Park. The Caana is absolutely staggering; you won't believe how magnificent it is. There was so much to see I decided to make two videos about it. In this part, I explore Plaza B, which includes the Caana (or "Sky Palace"), as well as the Barrios (neighbourhood where people had their houses).
Cahal Pech, San Ignacio, Belize
Просмотров 141Месяц назад
After my visit with Mr. Jose Magana at Sak Tunich I'm heading back to my hotel in San Ignacio. On the way, I stop to explore the ruins of Cahal Pech, a Maya site dating from as early as 1,200 BC. It was abandoned around 900 AD. Much remains to see. Never mind that the name Cahal Pech means "The Place of the Ticks"; I didn't see a single tick. Come along and enjoy this site with me!
Sak Tunich, Belize. The man building a modern Maya temple
Просмотров 55Месяц назад
I am visiting Mr. Jose Magana, Maya priest, artist, and architect. His creation of a Maya temple is truly inspiring. Join me as I speak to him and explore his spirituality and Maya principles of life. This site is located about 20 minutes south of San Ignacio and well worth the trip if you're ever in Belize.
Xunantunich, Belize
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.Месяц назад
Today I visit my first Maya site in Belize: Xunantunich. This site is dominated by the Castillo, a massive stone structure that overlooks the valley of the Mopan River. It's about 11 km from San Ignacio, so pretty close for a day trip. Xunantunich was short-lived for a Maya city, rising to prominence in the 8th century then declining by 1100 AD. I hope you enjoy the tour!

Mystic Moto goes international! I'm travelling from Uaxactun to Melchor de Mencos and then crossing the international border to enter Belize. They still have pandemic measures in place and I was charged a fee to have Lady Kawoq "fumigated" before I could cross into the country. Anyway, this is where the next stage of the adventure begins as I explore the many Maya sites around Belize. I hope yo...
Uaxactun: The Palace of Power
Просмотров 3592 месяца назад
This is my last day at Uaxactun. I'll show you the Palace of Power which was created as a new centre of the political power when the ruler, Siyaj K'ak, took over Uaxactun in the 4th Century. The site here in Tikal National Park translates this ruler's name as "Smoking Frog", although it generally translated as "Fire is Born" today. Next time we're heading for the border of Belize.
Uaxactun: The first E-Group Structure
Просмотров 752 месяца назад
I'm visiting Uaxactun in Peten near Tikal. This site has an E Group type structure that the Maya used to sight in the equinoxes and solstices. (In fact, the E Group type got its name from this structure at Uaxactun originally.) I'll show you how they did this here in Uaxactun. This video is Part 1 of a two-part video.
Into Tikal National Park to Uaxactun

I'm leaving San Benito, Peten, today for Uaxactun. This important Maya site is located about 20 kms north of Tikal in Tikal National Park. I pass the night at El Remate and then continue to Uaxactun the next day. In upcoming videos we'll explore the ruins of Uaxactun.
Yaxha: One of the oldest Maya sites in the Peten region.

I'm visiting Yaxha Archaeological Park in Peten, Guatemala. This is one of the oldest Maya sites, established as early as 1,000 BC. People lived there for 1,900 years, and the site grew to a population of as high as 42,000. One of the best sites for viewing the spectacular sunset is the top of the 30 metre high pyramid on the East Acropolis. And wait until you hear the howler monkeys! I hope yo...
Caves of Actun Kan near Flores, Peten.

The lovely Andrea welcomes me to the Actun Kan caves and helps with a little camera work. This is essentially a tourist site, but fun to visit. I am a bit annoyed that people desecrate the cave walls in what should be a sacred space. Human nature I guess. I see it everywhere.

The history of the indigenous peoples in the Americas is much, much older than a few thousand years. The Hopi people tell that they arrived in the America’s about 30,000 years ago when the continent that they were living on, Lemuria, sank under water. They claim to be the ancestors of the Maya. We judge the Maya, Aztecs, Inca’s and others on the traces that we find. But when we dig our way from the present to the past, we must know that the Earth is suffering from a cycle of seven recurring natural disasters. That is told in the Popol Vuh. These disasters create a cycle of civilizations. There are four primitive civilizations, sometimes mentioned a sun or world era. The next civilization lives in the fifth sun. This becomes eventually a high developed civilization that disappeared 20,000 years ago due to the next recurring, thus predictable but inescapable disaster that is caused by the ninth planet in our solar system. That planet orbits our sun in an eccentric orbit hence it is only a short period close to our sun and its planets s it crosses the ecliptic planet at a very high speed. This high developed civilizations has built sturdy monuments all over the world like Chchén Itzá and they must have buried knowledge about themselves and the world history deep in the ground. High in the mountains they have built shelters or surviving places for a selected number of people. Like Machu Picchu in Peru. The Aztec sun stone is a warning for this event that is known as Quetzalcoatl, Tonatiuh, Xiuhcoatl or Nibiru in other regions. Much more details about this cycle of natural disasters and many images can be found in an e-book. "Planet 9 = Nibiru". Search: invisible nibiru 9

I've been there and climbed the pyramid. IT WAS AMAZING! If you don't visit Xunantunich you haven't seen Belize! The Three pyramids on the side of Xunantunich represent the Gods of the Spring Equinox, the Summer Solstice, and the Winter Solstice. They are also in the same order on the facing side of the pyramid. I was there on Dec 24th at High noon when the sun was directly over Xunantunich. It was Spectacular! There is a smaller pyramid in front of it, the older one and in front of that is the royal quarters. I want to go back and visit it again! Xunantunich means Lady of the Stone and somehow got mixed up with La Llorona. You really need to learn your classic and post classic mayan structures. That central pyramid is the oldest and indeed where some of the sacrifices were done.

It looks very humid there. I found out that the frieze on the temple at Uaxctun, is made of fibreglass, they totally recreated it from clay by just looking and measuring it. Huge job, the original is still there behind the replica because it is made of limestone and plaster it would crumble if left exposed to heat and rain, so they put a thin layer of fine dirt behind and inbetween the original frieze and the fibreglass one. Did you know, could you tell. The steele with inscriptions are also fibre glass. The Belizan guy Dr Awe, archaeologist, worked on seven sites with his teams to uncover and preserve these sites. I think he has done an incredible job. I think this is the place to learn about the Mayan peoples.

You can tell that the frieze on the Castillo (Structure A-6) at Xunantunich is reconstructed. It is high above though. Impressive still. It is definitely humid there. Thank you for your comment and I hope you enjoy the channel.
