I'm Leaving Guatemala

Mystic Moto goes international! I'm travelling from Uaxactun to Melchor de Mencos and then crossing the international border to enter Belize. They still have pandemic measures in place and I was charged a fee to have Lady Kawoq "fumigated" before I could cross into the country. Anyway, this is where the next stage of the adventure begins as I explore the many Maya sites around Belize. I hope you enjoy!

It looks very humid there. I found out that the frieze on the temple at Uaxctun, is made of fibreglass, they totally recreated it from clay by just looking and measuring it. Huge job, the original is still there behind the replica because it is made of limestone and plaster it would crumble if left exposed to heat and rain, so they put a thin layer of fine dirt behind and inbetween the original frieze and the fibreglass one. Did you know, could you tell. The steele with inscriptions are also fibre glass.
The Belizan guy Dr Awe, archaeologist, worked on seven sites with his teams to uncover and preserve these sites.
I think he has done an incredible job. I think this is the place to learn about the Mayan peoples.

You can tell that the frieze on the Castillo (Structure A-6) at Xunantunich is reconstructed. It is high above though. Impressive still. It is definitely humid there. Thank you for your comment and I hope you enjoy the channel.
