Why is my car not selling? - Gearhead Fellowship - Podcast #1
Mark LaMaskin of Performance Autosport and Bob Goodson of Purist Motorsports discuss the economic pressures that influence the pricing of collector cars. Things are easy when the market is good. Everyone is fat and happy selling and buying but when economic pressures hit things become difficult and a lot of people want to ignore those signs. If you bought in a peak and then try to sell in a valley you won't make your money back that you invested. Mark and Bob discuss three points to help add perspective to the challenging car market we are currently seeing mid 2024.

Did These Set the 1993 Cobra Mustang In Motion??
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.Месяц назад
At Ponies In The Smokies 2023 there was a "plethora" of SAAC Shelby cars on display. Of 62 Total Made, there were FIVE on display. Each car was a representation of the different colors, options, and models the SAAC Shelby Foxbody Mustangs were offered in. Two convertibles and three hatchbacks with both MkI and MkII cars represented. These cars were built to a HIGH standard of quality. The produ...
Modified, Restored, or Driver Condition? What's your Flavor?

At Ponies in the Smokies 2023 there were THREE Saleen coupes in attendance. Three shining examples of less than 60 built of all Saleen fox production. It's rare to see one. But three in one place is unique. What is represented is from beautifully restored to wildly modified. Two 1989 Saleen coupes and one 1988 Saleen coupe all in the same arena just a few feet from each other. Not often do you ...
Coyote Powered F100 Farm Truck - "Pops Truck"

This is one for the Purists who love "within the brand" swaps and ideas. Matt Morgan of Morgans Auto Trim grew up around this Ford F100 truck. It was used on the farm and was a work truck like all trucks start out as. After inheriting it he started to modify it and enjoy it keeping the memories alive in the old F100 short bed pickup. But as time went on he decided to change it into something th...

At A Muscle Car Show? Foxbody Saleen Display at MCACN
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.9 месяцев назад
Why was it that the organizer's of the Muscle Car And Corvette Nationals (MCACN) wanted to put on a Foxbody Saleen display. Are they "Muscle Cars". If your'e a child of the 80's you'll say they are. But, if you're a child of the 50's, 60's or 70's you'd likely disagree. After all, they are equipped with a small block. Isn't a Muscle Car a small car with a large displacement V8? One could argue ...

Vintage Ford Motorsport Parts Found on Foxbody Saleen
My absolute favorite, had a MINT one in my area for in the low 40s.... would have been a helluva addition to the garage if I was made of cash
Im with you. I’m just a spectator in the sport of buying low mile collector cars. Merely sitting in the stands cheering people on.
I have seen the colbra version of this same style body and they sure can get a guy confused of what's what 😂
Yeah! Devil is in those small details. The 03-04 Saleen cobra kept the OE Ford hood. That’s one way to spot those Saleen cobras. A quick way to spot the earlier ones is the front brakes. Saleen didn’t change the front cobra brakes on most of them. Saleen didn’t convert many Cobras.
I think that’s Awesome!!! Great build.
I love ❤️ my 1986 Saleen mustang production 01 car
Fuck I need one!!
Love my 86 saleen.. .but she needs some work lol
Only 20 of these?
About 50 of the 1999 S351’s were made. Very few of them.
@@PuristMotorsports 40 21 coupes
That’s what I get for not double checking. Of those 40 only 30 of them are actually 1999 Ford models and the other 10 are 2000 chassis Ford models. But all are 1999 Saleen S351 models. EPA rule ran out on 12/31/1999. So Saleen could build them as 99 models through that date. That’s why there are ten 2000 model chassis converted to 351’s.
Couldn't see the car but that headlight don't look like an 02..
It’s a 1993 Saleen SA10. Chassis 02 of a run of 9. So yea, it definitely doesn’t look like an 2002 for sure.
I never was to big on this body style.. unless its this package it looks better.. i like around 89 to mid 90s.. the years right before.. after the old 80s foxbodys.. and now the new one is slick.. i just wasn't into these years of body style at this time..
I’m with you on styling. The only 94-98 Mustang styling I like is the Saleen. And even then I’m chasing a Saleen fox or a 99-04 Saleen before going after them.
This is a car manu have forgotten about today.. that saleen was nasty
Modern technology and power numbers can easily wipe away the pasts muscle in a hurry. It can make former numbers look small or average. But to those of us that lived it, these were kings of the streets at the time.
A 90's 911 use to be my dream car. Now i would choose a Saleen like one of these over the Porsche any day. I have an all original 1979 Mustang and im only 32 so maybe i will get one some day.
I’m sure you will own one in the future. Dreams can come true if we are disciplined enough to follow them. I still want a 90’s 911 really bad. The 993 is my favorite air cooled Porsche. My problem is I want the equivalent of a Saleen in that 911. The RUF Porsche. Unless I win the lottery, I’ll always be a spectator in that sport.
I love my 93 Cobra with 347ci Big Bore single turbo setup, but this car I can tell is a ton of fun to drive! great detail with the build! enjoyed it.
Fake it does not have the Saleen seats and door panels
Plenty of Saleen’s were built from 87-91 without Flofits and door panel inserts. Ford leather interior was a Saleen option. Never say never with Fox Saleen’s.
I have Accel Three nozel injectors the body is the same as the factory injectors. I noticed an improvement in power and economy
I think it needs t tops
I’m 100% in favor of this suggestion. 🙌
Reeeeeeally wish this video was up prior to my purchase of a $25,000 Foxbody two months ago. :/ #dreamcar
Excellent video! Very accurate to what is happening.
Great points about the market. One thing I've noticed on BAT is usually how cheap cars sell for without a reserve. Those tend to be a better reflection of the current markets selling price on a certain kind of car.
Great video guys! Very interesting…Thanks
Oh my lordddddd😮
You mean my car isn't worth 50k 😅😂
Awesome video, Gents. Sure hope Mark called back that guy from Guntersville.
Great video gentleman. When it comes to the modern Mustang market I always use 93 Cobras as the benchmark. I’ve noticed prices on them sliding. Personally I thought they were hyper inflated as they were a semi highly produced collectible. Pre Covid they were $5k+ project cars to be had and mint $30k examples. Post Covid those mint examples became $50k+ cars. I think the market as you pointed out is self correcting on them.
The amount of crappy ads is amazing. People are lazy now and don’t seem to care. My friends and I trade links to ads that are so poorly written and the pictures are so poor. It’s almost laughable these days.
@MWILSON7 I’m going to have to 🤐 As a former broadcast engineer from 25 years ago the modern internet broadcast age has brought about so many failures. Proper English is one in the ads that is awful.
Great video....all 3 points are spot on...
Thanks Chet. Not everyone thinks about those things affecting their investment.
I love and hate it !
Hopefully you seen a 2nd and a third edition
That is absolutely amazing!! Well done, I love it🔥🔥💯💯
Roush built a prototype Mustang back in 1987 for Ford that was a 5.8 twin turbo that was supposed to be the 1989 25th Anniversary car and it had body work that was very similar to what became the 1993 Cobra(it was even a red color that looks like Vibrant Red)...so Roush gets the credit for influencing the 1993 Cobra...not SAAC. The car is still in the Roush private collection. Revan Evan did a video about it in 2021.
I believe you’ve proven my point that there are a lot of assumptions drawn on where the influence came from. No one at Ford has ever said specifically what it was. I have magazines with articles on that Roush car from 25+ years ago. I could see where the idea is viable too. The SAAC cars had A LOT in common with the 93 Cobra. More parts than the one off custom prototype Roush did for 1989. The 93 cobra had a cast GT40 style intake and iron GT40 heads which were cast and iron versions of what was used on the SAAC cars. The side skirts and details of the SAAC more closely resemble the 93 cobra than the Roush prototype to me. I’ve been around both cars and I’m making my own conclusions. To each their own. Either way, it’s a good thing the 93 cobra happened because ever since 1993, Ford has had a high performance Mustang in the lineup. One could argue that without the 93 Cobra we wouldn’t have the modern GT500’s or the GTD. Things would likely look different than they are now.
Excuse me if I'm distracted by the white #9 M81 McLaren Mustang in the background.
Owner is top notch! Has a great collection too.
@@PuristMotorsports He also has the #2 M81 race car and ALL the SVO's!
Yup! He and I chatted a good bit about both cars. Kendal is a great guy! Plus the other cars he has are select as well. Mark knows him really well. Just need to make a trip and we can do video on those rare pieces there.
$50+k for a '90s Foxbody was craaaaaazy money back then ! Whats the book on the SAAC cars now, 100k ?
Around that for sure now. And that price was for the less expensive MkII. 😳 you could buy a 911 for equal or less.
51k is 115k in today’s money.
Beautiful rare SAAC fox body
Absolutely amazing cars!
I remember these. Beautiful cars.
Good. Shit.
Would love to see a part 2!
The only mustang I'd probably pick over a Terminator.
GORGEOUS!
I had a Calypso 93 lx 5.0 from ages 17-24, many years ago, My dream car has been a calypso Saleen since the day i discovered they existed. My uncle always had nice cars and one was a 89 saleen in maroon with gold striped and tan interior, so i've always been hip to saleens, the calypso saleen is my if i could have any car in the world, car.
There’s something about the color. I can remember seeing these color cars and trucks and even the Astro vans from GM in it and just not really liking it too much. The color is eye catching. The older I get I do believe it has become nostalgic and has grown on me immensely. It was a color that didn’t sell well with the Fox Mustangs. But now it’s iconic and highly sought after. I’ve said it before but it reminds me of the violet (purple) E36 M3’s that are now sought after. Cool colors from the 90’s.
Freaking awesome
Wondering who did the interior swap? Wanting to do this to. My 1992 mustang Gt.
The whole interior conversion required a floor pan from the S550. Mainly because of the size of the 10 speed auto. The same shop did the whole build and they aren’t building for clients. It’s like Jay Leno’s garage. They only work on cars in the collection or help out close friends.
There’s a guy in my town that did this same thing but with a 68 mustang fastback Eleanor clone. His family owns/runs a body since the 60’s. They are diehard Ford ppl
There’s a guy in my town that did this same thing but with a 68 mustang fastback Eleanor clone. His family owns/runs a body since the 60’s. They are diehard Ford ppl
It’s like music through my ears👂🥵
What would something like this be worth? One of one calypso sc? Bat sold an sc vert $231k
@@willitohernandez1094 it’s anyone’s guess. Easily a 6 figure car. As to how far into six figures is really impossible to guess.
Ok, just figured youd have more of an idea than me. Was just curious. 5.0 foxbodys here in long island Ny have gone up in price. Few years ago weren't worth much. @@PuristMotorsports
What’s that mustang in the back?? 2 tone white upper and it looks like dark gray bottom??
Back in 93, I went to Archway Ford in Baltimore, Md. I was looking for a 93 Cobra, but they had sold the last one on the lot. In the showroom, they had 3 new Saleens at $30k a pop, including a calypso green Saleen. Way out of my price range. I joked around with the salesman and asked if they had any used Saleens around. He said, "Wait a minute" and came back with a white with blue stripes 89 Saleen (89-342). One test drive later, I signed the papers and drove the car home. BTW, I still have it.
Good thing you jokingly asked!! I want to say that Calypso one had the rare Logic Wheels on it. There’s one in that area that is supposedly still with its original owner. 93 Cobras were a steal for what they were. Somewhat expensive. But not near as expensive as a Saleen.
@PuristMotorsports I remember the price on that 93 Cobra. I looked at the MSRP on the car. The price was $21,500.
I dig it
5 lugs i see.
Good eye. All 87-93 Saleen’s had upgraded 5 lug all wheel disc brakes.
I have to do this interior
How rare are them headlight covers? What are those worth on that car now?
Somewhat rare. The earlier versions that used Velcro are rare-er.
