My dad ordered a brand new Thunderbird SC in1993. It was full of tech that was passed on to later SVT models. The intercooled Eaton and cock pit adjustable suspension were some cool features on that early of a car. Car and Driver car of the year in 89
Those were cool cars too! You’re right that the tech was very cutting edge. Not to mention that the wheel design of the T-bird ended up being what made it onto the 1993 cobra too. Albeit in a larger version.
As you noted, still largely unloved, the SVO Mustang was indeed the predecessor to the SVT era, so thank you for noting that & paying homage. Mustang SVO - the Original EcoBoost.
All my buddies who are into European cars love the SVO and no other Mustang save for early Shelby Mustangs or a Saleen or two. The SVO was about 10-15 years too soon. The Millenial love for small turbo cars came into vogue around the late 90’s. Large fart can exhaust and all. I think the SVO would have scored larger sales at that time. Ford can be a bit hard headed at times. I mean they were going to replace the Mustang with a FWD platform in 89-90. That would have been a certain death for the Mustang name.
When I had to replace my old commuter/race-car-tow-vehicle Bronco II back in 93/94 - I took a hard look at buying a Lightning. Ultimately concluded it was gonna kill me on fuel commuting 52 miles a day in Houston. Understatement.
Awesome! Calypso is another color that is highly sought after these days. I didn’t like it much back when it was new but now it’s one of my favorites. Interesting how time changes our likes/dislikes. Drive yours and enjoy them.
@ I’ve heard about that and I can’t believe it. By far one of my favorites colors along side twilight blue. Might I add the 93 Lightning in this video is a beautiful example of a survivor
I love the dynamic when you and Mark get together!
Great video guys!! Two classics for sure!!
Thanks Chet! It’s always nice to go down memory lane.

And it didn’t matter how it was driven. Mileage didn’t change.
Both beautiful vehicles… I’m lucky to own both a 93 Calypso Fox and a red 93 Lightning

@93Kalypslow yeah… twilight blue!! 🤤❤️ I really dig that color.
SVT sound inviting. Ford Performance is vague and boring.
I’ve never given that any thought but I agree with you on that.
