This channel is my way to share the joy of camping, wild camping, camping in the rain, solo camping, and camping with dogs. Join me (and sometimes my dog Indi) for some amazing outdoor adventures in the beautiful, wild, New Zealand bush, mountains, rivers and coast. Being outdoors makes me feel alive. I love hiking to remote spots and the adventure of solo camping in the wilderness. I can think of nothing better than relaxing to the sound of rain on my tent, or the sight of a warm fire on a freezing cold night. The OT in AdventureOT stands for 'outdoor therapy' because that is what adventure in the outdoors is for me. My desire is to share the joy of the outdoors with you. I hope you will enjoy coming along.
Camping Alone in Heavy Rain and Thunder (with my Dog)
My dog Indi, and I, braved the elements to came on the top of Mt Richardson, in the South Island of New Zealand, during a heavy rain storm that brought thunder and strong winds. After a three hour hike we found a lovely flat spot to camp in the protection of the trees and were sheltered from the winds that blew all around us. My favourite part of this camp was listening to the sound of the rain on the tent, and the rain on the tarp. The sound of the thunder made camp even cosier. I cooked up a delicious curry for dinner and enjoyed a celebratory piece of Christmas cake to welcome in the holidays.

What a stunning video!⛈ The way the rain dances on the tarp and the thunder rumbles in the background creates such a cozy atmosphere. Indy seems to be enjoying the adventure,perfectly embodying the spirit of camping....embracing nature in all its moods! Love the rain sounds, it makes me feel relaxed 😌☺! It's 2 degrees F here in far north Maine and already snowed 5 times this winter. We get over 110 inches of snow here in winters which is 6 months long. It can go as low as minus 15 degree F in winters here. Your camping reminds us that even in the stormiest weather, there's magic to be found. Thank you for sharing this enchanting experience with us! Nice one Kathy. Merry Christmas. Love all your camping rituals, especially morning coffee. Your a bit of a mentor for other woman seeking some alone time. Very healthy. I see a lot of men towing there uber expensive boats going out fishing with there mates and wonder about there partners. So good what you are doing in terms of relationships. Have you done any Pack Rafting? There must be a funky lake down there that you could do a gentle paddle to the other side of a lake to camp up for the night. Cheers Matt.

Thank you! This was lovely. It’s frigid outside where I am after an unexpectedly heavy snow fall and quick freeze. The rain is so much nicer🙂A very Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Oh yes, and if you can imagine some warmth with the rain (when not up high in the mountains) that makes it even nicer. Down at sea level where I live it is lovely and warm and the rain is a welcome cooler of the warm days.
I grew up in India with spectacular thunder and the part of Alaska I live in now rarely has it. I miss it. Merry Christmas to you and the most precious Indi girl!
Awhh, thanks from Indi and I. You are so right about missing thunderstorms. I agree. I think when you have a safe refuge (snug house) you feel so cozy, and hearing thunder brings back that lovely feeling of safety (for me anyway).
