    Had the great pleasure of travelling a good part of this journey (Edinburgh-Pitlochry return) in an Inter7City Scotrail HST set in April , it was such a smooth and comfortable ride even with the tighter seats these days. And still the same smell from the brakes as when I first rode an HST in 1981!

    OK here's a question: Are there as many preserved locos in any other class as in A4?

    Great seeing class 08242 moving, only ever saw it dumped in Holmes Yard in the late 80s with class 08386.

    I think I was on that train with 5 little kids all headed for Skeggy. It broke down halfway and we were marooned for about 6 hours. We arrived in Skeg as the un set so had to cross to the other platform and go straight back home. No apologies no compensation and yet it has actually got worse since privatisation. Last twice I travelled by train I had the same experience - marooned for hours by both signals breakdowns and engine breakdowns. The heating in our carriage was stuck full on - in summer - and people were passing out from heatstroke.

    Some interesting formations with the 91’s. 7,8 and 9 cars plus one with 2 buffets. When I used to go spotting in the Early 90’s only ever remember them pretty much being fixed Loco-9-DVT formations. Great Vid.

    Wow that brought back some memories. I would have only been 10 at the time, but I have great memories of Worksop open days. Spoilt for choice for open days back then with Tinsley, Crewe, Coalville, Doncaster. I remember getting the special from Doncaster through Maltby and Dinnington.

    Why would the Guard tell people to change at York for Thirsk or Northallerton, when the Train had come through those places to get to York in the first place...?

    • @keithreay973
      @keithreay973 Месяц назад

      The train was heading northwards into York so hadn't come from the Thirsk and Northallerton direction. As the guard asked passengers to change at York it tells you that particular service wouldn't be calling at Thirsk and Northallerton.

    @3:12 nice to see the fly-ash service - so rarely witnessed... and how fondly I remember the 25/3s stabled in Euston, left idling for hours. Soon as you came down ramp you could hear that distinctive Sulzer "clonk, clonk, clonk" great days sorely missed

    It is surprising just how dead it is here now having remembered how busy it was at the time this video was made. The freight here has declined severely when comparing 2003 to today. There used to be an average of about 6 freights an hour, now that average is about 1 an hour!
