    The more powerful amp (I have a '67 blackface drip-edge transitional "50 watt" - more likely less) sounds better, the bigger iron and more power tubes gives it a more solid sound even at low volumes. I recently got an AC15CH, and wish I'd gotten the AC30CH for that reason. Nice score man!

      Thank you and yes you are right about the power of the amp and I've have the tendency to really like the more powerful amps when it seems the norm for most people is to stay in the 5 to 15 watt power range. IIRC, the "Falcon was the model name for the GA19RT or RVT series.. There is very little circuit continuity between examples of a given Gibson model, and therefore a whiteface, chromeface or "woody" GA19 Falcon are all different and might not match the published schematics either. PS, the reverb tank, if not original, may have been erroneously replaced with a Fender-style transfomer driven reverb tank ---- but Gibson often used a capacitor-driven circuit and so a Fender type tank wont work.

As for the GA19RVT, the only one I played through ( brown tolex, rusty chrome faceplate) had issues (no shortage of hum) but sounded very much like a Deluxe Reverb, with plenty of smooth lush reverb. I can't find an exact schematic for the S100 online but a similar one seems to have the OA2 regulating voltage for the power tube screens. How it does this is a complete mystery to me though - the cathode is connected to the 6.3v center tap and the anode to the B+ center tap. This is above my pay grade for sure. I'd love to see what it looks like under the hood, and inside the chassis. I have a big Webster PA amp that needs to be recapped and converted for guitar use: it has two 5U4 rectifiers, four 6L6GC's, three 5879 pentodes for mic input (as well as one octal tube phonograph input), a weird tone circuit with small inductors, and a 6SJ7, 6SL7 and 6SN7! I couldn't find an exact schematic for it online or in my large collection of Sam's PA amplifier schematics, but I did find a schematic for another brand of PA amp with a somewhat similar circuit and tube complement, a Dukane I think it was. It probably should get a new output transformer however, because the multiple secondary windings and taps aren't marked and the wires are discolored from age, and so it's a confusing mess. I could probably figure it out with a multimeter if I had to but it seems more appropriate to put a proper output tranny in there with 4, 8 and 16 ohm taps.

    • @roncarter2188
      @roncarter2188 2 месяца назад

      Sure so the easiest one to do and it works pretty well it's the same one that I have on my amplifier which is a post phase inverter master volume type 3. Take a 1 meg audio taper pot. Connect a wire from center lug of the pot and the other end to pin 2 of the power tube. Take another wire to one of the other outside lugs of the pot and then to pin 2 on the other output tube. There will already be a connection on pins 2 but thats ok just connect the pot to those pins as well. This is for using el84 power tubes.

    • @wallpapermusique
      @wallpapermusique 2 месяца назад

      @@roncarter2188 Thanks, I drew up a schematic and I get it. I think there will be a difference in 'feel/sensitiviy' depending on which outside lug you connect to because of the audio taper. I'll mess around with it...maybe try a linear taper pot. Thanks again!!!

    • @roncarter2188
      @roncarter2188 2 месяца назад

      @@wallpapermusique So when you mount the pot that's when you'll need to decide on which outside lugs to use because that will determine when you turn it up or down if the volume goes up or down. That won't effect the tone or feel just the way the volume goes up or down. So if you turn it up and the volume goes down then just switch the one wire to the opposite lug. I recommend using temporary jumper wires with clips on them then you will know how to wire it with the correct lugs on the pot.

    Hey Ron Nice amp and worth to be restored! The toggle switch with the high and low position actually changes the voltage . In the high position you probably can reed around 700 Volts on the anodes of the powertubes. I had one of these on the bench lately. Maybe you want to watch this: Music Man RP 65: Repair, analysis, bias setting and sound demo ruclips.net/video/tMQCf6Bn3Mg/видео.html Greetings from Germany

    It looks like you started with a Hammond AO29 and gutted everything except the power transformer and chassis

      Yes sir you are correct. The video I posted before this one shows the amp and demos it and what I used as far as components and transformers, but yeah you're right.

    Would love to see someone like yourself capture these amps in a modeler like the Quad Cortex. That would preserve the sound of these amps( and Terry's sound), which are very hard to come by and often would need a ton of work.

    Methimks your 'auto-focus' is having a case of shit conniptions...(?) (...ha ha I just noticed your text ) ...mayhaps some coach horse blinders (?) I'm digging some of your tones and I like the tube type rectifier... Seems a lot of blokes have found success with Hammond conversions

    I’ve blown up two of those AO-29 power transformers trying to run 6L6 tubes in a Thunderbolt build. Had it in an open back combo and the transformer would overheat and drip wax out of it, eventually frying it. First time I thought it was a bad transformer. Second time I knew something was up. The fix was to run it on 110v mains and install a small fan blowing directly on the transformer. Power transformer #3 has been running perfect for 5 years now.

      I've been running mine on a variac at 100-110 volts. My voltage at my house is a moderate 117 which is not the case at most places these days. My pt seems to be running pretty healthy and after a couple hours barely warm, so I'm thinking this will be ok and if a issue starts to develop I'll just get a proper PT.

    Were you able to find filter caps for it?

      Filter caps were no problem to find. I get most of all that stuff from Antique Electronic Supply.

    Good work, but don't be afraid to go full tilt boogie with a tube amp. That's what we were waiting to hear through your 1960's Celestion speakers. (Teaser)

      That's what I really love and I think on this amp I ran out of time when I got this really cooking. I'm thinking about shooting a video of my maybe three favorite amp conversions and part of that will be to crank them up for that good overdrive.
