Cenco Audo Amplifier/Guitar Amp.... 2 Tube - 1 Watt Terror

Cenco Audio Generator-Test Equipment from the 1960s This was a very old conversion for me. Basically just passing signal was good enough at that time. Now I don't have the time to take it any further so I'm passing it along on reverb.

The 1960 Gibson Gibsonette GA-8t is a really cool and kind of rare amp with its tube lineup of a 5y3, 2-6bm8’s and one 12ax7. Enjoy this demo of a cool little combo that really rocks! Also the speaker is a Jensen speaker made in Italy not a fender speaker, Duh…. Subscribe and hit the notification bell. Cheers and take care

Masco MA-25 Dusty, crusty and rusty but it still rocks!

I'm sorry I kept calling this everything but it's correct model number which is a 1947 Masco MA-25.... Replaced all filter caps and coupling caps. I rebuilt the second mic control for a little different sound on the number 2 channel. Enjoy - thanks for watching.

Stromberg Carlson AU-42 Converted For Guitar....Loving This Amp!
Very cool. The Marshall lead 12 bass (??) amps loved guitars as well !!! A post pre amp eq is worth its weight in gold man sounds great. I've got a couple great finds myself man. !!
Cool amp, sounds decent 🤘🏼
@manonbassguitar Thanks for checking this amp out, take care.
I've got a 1940s small point to point radio that I turned into an Amp it sounded great until I got a shock from the jack I installed 😂😂 still gotta figger that out Ps a phono jack I think has a higher gain ??? I knew this by playing through my dad's stereos when I was a kid I got great distortion this way in stereo with a post pre amp eq as well!!
Going through the phonograph input on these type amps gives you a much lower gain because of the circuit design for the phonograph input now on a later solid state type circuit of a stereo it will give you a lot of fuzzy distortion but on these old tube pa amps it's a very limited amount of gain. Getting shocked is part of the learning experience....😆
You want to sell it?
@anthonyrichard461 I repaired it for a customer, whish it was mine!
Another nice sounding, unkown rare gem! Thank you for sharing! Rocks!
Nice tones, reminds me a little of a Grampian 562A or of a Filmosound, but has it's own character, of course. Definitely tones, you do not get out of any modern amps. This very special harmonic dirt in the tone is unbeatable and the overdrive tones sound really good, which is not always the case with such vintage gear.
WOW, great sound. Smooth overdrive.
Very nice amp and demo
@@melvinallenallen7424 Thank you
I've got that same unit, but I haven't messed with it yet.
It wouldn’t take much to make it a killer amp, I really like mine and I have a bunch of these old PA type amps.
👍
Sounds incredible Ron, what a tone!. I had a Masco ME-27 converted in a very similar manner with a master volume just recently, in fact the whole process is documented in Martyn Brown's channel on here. I see these Rauland's on ebay, very tempted to get one now that I've heard what can be done with them!.
@keiranbradley3238 There is a guy that has this same amp on Reverb, it's expensive! But it's cool...
@roncarter2188 Yeah I've seen it on there, nice but as you say quite pricey!. Love the content you're doing.
Cool
Rather interesting for the age that it works nice little gem
It sounds good, break up has that sound of holy grail break ups
@thompsonart1 Thanks and really I think it has that authentic Marshall grind but when I mention that somebody will chime in and get all bent out of shape because it's not a Marshall and of course I already know that. But I think it sounds quite good for what it is and so little modifications
@@roncarter2188 it's got something more swag than a marshall, more swamp swag crunch.
Thanks so much for your input, this one is really something special for sure.
very interesting, love how unique it is. thanks for sharing!
Wow what an amp this would cover everything from jazz, blues, country, hard rock and full tilt rock and roll👍👍👍. Id love to hear it with a fender reverb unit or a tape echo. Over here in the uk a popular tape echo was made by watkins who evolved into WEM. Can i ask would you have something like a Daneletro or a Harmony you could play through it?
@FenderTele Well I don't have those guitars but I have a strat with EMG pickups that I could try and I have a delay....That's a thought for another video. Thanks for your input, take care.
Getting one of these tomorrow! PCB but that’s just fine with me lol. Great vid, thanks for showing us this!
You will love that! Enjoy that awesome amp.
It's always cool when you get one that just sounds good without much modding (just the basics) Sounds great!
Very, very cool. I’ve a 1947 MEC Troubadour that exhibits some art deco styling cues. Love your content, thanks for all the work you do. I love these old amps.
It's awesome how these old pieces of equipment had such nice design and style, as you can see I love them. I don't think I've heard of a MEC Troubadour, interesting.
I have a 1957 Vega A-49 great sounding amp. I believe these were made by Lectrolab and same as their R300.
@pepelepew207 Yeah I never saw one like the one I demoed here but I really like the Vega amps and instruments.
@roncarter2188 did you sell it on Reverb?
@pepelepew207 Yes I did, surprisingly it did. I priced it kinda high because I really didn't want to sell it but someone bought it right away...
These indeed came paired with a lap-steel. Those are beautiful too, the ones I've seen have a full Brazilian rosewood "finger board" on them, very well built instruments, nothing cheap about them whatsoever.
Sounds incredible Ron, nice playing too!. A more robust speaker in there and you could really let fly without having to worry about shrapnel injuries! Haha.
@@keiranbradley3238 I like the way you think! Cheers
Well that was sweet. Too bad you couldn't dig in there. It was waiting for it. I love the Virbo, but I want to find an old Pro Reverb, 40 watts with 2 12" speakers.
@Racoldgin Yeah I wanted to really crank on it but maybe next time I'll do the demo inside my house so I can wind it up more.
The later silverface VR amps from '77 onwards were rated at 40 watts. Same amount of power as a Pro but less weight.
Distortion was discovered, thanks to these amps !
@@strat0871 You are correct!
I have a Old Gibson BR 9 1948 model it will work but havnt used it in a few years because its all original and needs service ,That little amp sounds Great ,does it have a Field coil speaker ? If not I think I would make it so that you could use a extension cabinet with it,Im not going to attempt to repair my amp I will find a good tech to do the work especially having the field coil speaker in it
No this one doesn't but like your Gibson amp I have a old amp that had a field coil speaker that was bad and I had it converted to take a regular speaker and it worked out well.
@@roncarter2188 yes I want to make it so It has a Extension speaker option but I may opt out doing that depending on the condition of the speaker cone
Nice amp.love those old amps .🌹👍🙏🙏
@@vintagetone22 Thanks so much for checking it out.
Nice amp head
Thank you, definitely cool amps. I whish I had it as a combo as it originally came.
That's s beauty. I'd like to get a Marshall amp head like that
Is it normal to have tube amp hum noise like that? My mid 90s 1959 Fender Bassman 4×10 tweed amp does the same thing. After being serviced by local amp techs
I think there might be some room for improvement with that but I think some amps have a hum issue where others not so much.
Hey 1972 my year, can you do amp repair out of state?
Possibly, what's going on with your amp? Where do you live? Send me an email and some pics if you would like to biggdfan@gmail.com
The one I have is a '77. One of the best all around Fender amps available. Big enough and small enough for any gig. 44lbs, barely bigger than a Deluxe Reverb. Bright switch and 6l6s, its a mini Twin
Mine is a '79 and I couldn't agree more!
I have the same amp, mine is from 1979 with the pull boost, great amplifier ! Cheers from France.
Do you have the export version with the correct voltage for your area?
@@roncarter2188 Yes, absolutely, it comes from the official french importer back in time. I own it since 1991. 🙂
@strat0871 If you like cool old vintage amps, then you might like the amp video that I'll be posting today...It's a 1955 Vega combo
Snap! Mine is a '79 too! Great amps.

I have a S20 Precision Electronics. It's brand new. Still in the box. What's it worth
@davidhouser6574 Brand-new in the box? Probably 300 to 400. But you really it's what someone is willing to pay....
teure Gitarre...teurer Amp... aber spielen kannst du nicht...👎👎👎
@bullifan1300 Proud arrogant German full of yourself. But what's on your channel? Where's your content? Oh yeah you don't have any like all trolls.
Rauland-Borg, I think, was a brand of amplifiers that primarily was used in public address, intercom, paging, and background music and was mostly sold to schools, hospitals, and other institutional settings.
Your exactly right! Quality robust transformers and chokes make these amps great candidates for modding into cool guitar amps.
Ron you can use a attenuator when recording, so anybody can appreciate the tones of the moster penta!
When I was a kid (under 21) I sold these and all Ampegs new at a local Music Store. Some were NOISY AS HECK right out if the box if you used those top switches to boost the mids/highs. Problem was they also had their best "Stones era grind and overdrive " with those switches engaged. I mean jamming with other instruments the noise was ok - but the SECOND the song ended you had to slam down the volume on your guitar or you'd get this really annoying hiss. Marshall JMP's of the same ear had a similar problem but nearly as bad...good amps just weird design with those boost switches.
That's cool that you sold these amps at a store!
please start filming some of the mod work you're doing so we can see some of the process on some of these. The finished results always sound great but would love to see how you turned the wrenches a bit. Just heard you say you would in the vid lol
@@vessal1 Yes, when I revisit this amp I will film it.
You need a better mic dude.
@@PMofKhanadah I don't have a mic, I'm using a iPad....dude
@@roncarter2188 then get a mic.
I have a 1970 Vt 22 V4 that i bought cheap many years ago and its a beast of a amp , Ampeg was so very different in thier designs and choices of tubes which I think makes them a one of a kind sound ,I had my amp gone over back in 2006 and still going strong but needs attention again ,Im pretty sure its 1 or more of the Multi caps in the circuit ,I would like to do away with the Muilti can caps and use quality individual caps in place of them I think that would make a great difference in longevity
I'm really loving this amp and man what a history these amps have.
What code did that output transformer have? Curious as I have a harmony 430 that isn’t too different with the exception of the horrible Gibbs cardboard reverb tank that sucks the circuit. It has this very small output transformer. The tube biased term circuit sounds great.
Unfortunately I sold that amp to a recording artist in Nashville. At full volume this amp was a rocking machine.
@ I can tell you that there is something to these old 6973 Blackplates(shush!) Replaced the electro harmonix version and the amp went and AMPED it up. Stick a fuzz in front of it and it’s glorious. Just feels like there’s a tiger trying roar. 18 watts….hmmm? Some tweaks and it would be a Lion. Just wondered if it could be the output. Jensen P10R Power trans was changed out for a less substantial but I doubt that’s the issue. A work in progress. Always looking for a 6161 or 6150.
@GIBKEL I have an old Montgomery Ward amp I demo in my video catalog.... now that's another amp with great breakup and drive.
I could'nt find it for sale on Reverb. Could you send me the link? Thanx.
@@harlequingr Oh I sold it on Reverb about week and half ago.
You should check the Bell 5516 that I have on there...Also there is a video of it on my channel, it's pretty mean!
The AO-43 is the power amp for the organ, as well as driving the reverb which is a seperate pre-amp.
