Love the Channel . But I don’t think it’s a good idea to show people how to lube a chain with the engine running and in gear. Especially new riders. Big mistake 😢.
Good day, Sir. How did you manage to get to the middle carb balancing screw? It looks like you skipped this episode in the video. I could get to the middle carb balancing screw only while rolling on a throttle a bit and it was very difficult. Please, share with us the way you did it. Thank you.
Hi Steve can I please as you the make of your chain alignment laser tool and where you got it from? cheers
It is called a Profi laser and is readily available online
Thank you again, brilliant videos by the way👍👍👍
Nice view of a portable potty’s
Another great video. I have to admit my cleaning OCD kicked in when the wheel was off. Just wanted to grab it and get to work on it :)
great job as always lad keep it goin
I was always taught to spray chain lube on the inside of the chain rather than the outside as centrifugal force means the lube will work into the chain.
Does 12 psi on the rear not indicate a puncture? That is considerably low, especially if owner has been riding it.
Yes we did unfortunately find a screw in it afterwards 😔
Brilliant video. I have a 2022 SV... 4 spark plugs, i have to drop the radiator to get to the top plug but need to get a socket extension like you had to remove it as my hands are too big to get in from the side i get the wife to get that one for me. I've subscribed.
Hey, I notice by the sticker above the headlight that the owner was at this years ABR festival, was a great weekend 👋
I did my training on one of these, was a great wee bike, always felt safe
👍
My break fluid goes that colour after I cook it on track days 🤣👍
Just spotted the back tyre wear, i'm saying nn more. Another one for the algorithm.
Hi Steve. Quick thank you for your videos, even spent over 45 years playing with bikes you are still teaching me new things. Bleeding brakes with ABS, any tips ?
No tips as such. A vacuum bleeder helps 👍
great vid mate we have no one like you up newcastle wish we did
I think there is an agenda to stop us repairing anything, owning nothing eating the bugs in 15 minute city's and You tube is part of it. Good Luck and best wishes. Great Channel
My thumbs up was also removed, have clicked it again.
Strange, I just came back to check how difference between this bike and my much earlier version and found my comment was removed, im sure there was nothing but thumbs up for the channel. I'm getting the feeling you tube doesn't like me because my helmet is made from tin foil and i like truth and honesty which is why I like this channel 👍
Full service history mate - ah ok. Whatever you say🤪
Steve, I’ve changed many a spark plug in my time, mostly cars. Last week I changed a single spark plug on a ktm Duke 125. What a complete nightmare that was to do. Big hands no chance.
That magnetic spark plug getter is really handy. Great "how to" session as usual. Bravo.
Love it! Thank you
Well done. Fantastic bikes are the SV's I've got the 1000 model. Can I please ask what make is the nifty fluid pump have you got there ? Thanks
I bought it years ago so can’t remember what brand but it is a 7 litre vacuum bleeder. It runs off any compressor and makes light work of bleeding brakes 👍
I had an SV 650 2013 model if I remember correctly, loved the torque and always wanted to try the 1000 , now own a 1982 1000 Harley Iron head and a track tuned, road legal 2020 CBR RRW FireBlade, the torque on the Harley is like a tractor, there's nothing like a V twin for that feeling of being catapulted. Don't suppose you would be near Snetterton, Sufolk? Maybe we could swap for a 5 lap session, you can try the FireBlade👍
@@themobilemotorbikemechanic Definitely a needed bit of kit for a business, I looked at them as I already have a compressor but I only have two bikes and the FireBlade only needs once a week if doing track days (20 mins old school) and the 82 Iron head every spring, so it doesn't make sense for me to buy one👍 they're around £180 pluss on Ebay.
👍👍👍@@themobilemotorbikemechanic
I see you've been eating 3 Shredded Wheat in being able to take off the old oil filter without the aid of tools😂😂👍👍
I thought you meant how tight the seatbelt is getting 😁
Oh you are getting organised with your own portaloo
🤣🤣
"This is the way I've been taught"? I think you've been watching 'Del's Garage' videos Steve😢. The grease is acually supplied mainly for lubricating the pins. The X rings seal the grease inside and protects from lube loss and contamination. While it's good to ensure a bit of lube gets on the ring as well ,the most important thing ,really is to lube the pins well, b4 insertion into the chain. Meanwhile I did like how you did not rely ( at all by the looks of it)on the swing arm markings to align the wheel/ chain. They're really only to be used as a guide. Good lazer tool. I'll have to get one.,Hope that might be a bit of help to anyone out there reading my comments. Enjoy your vids ,Steve . And have watched loads in recent months. Hope your views are on the up! Best Regards, Roger.
if you didn't have a vacuum issue like you encountered here, would you have first removed and cleaned the carbs (pilot jets), then moved to a carb balance/sync?
Yes most likely.
Power Band??!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪
ti sei complicato inutilmente il lavoro... l'airbox va tolto e poi si tolgono i carburatori... per togliere l'airbox è semplicissimo... si toglie la batteria... poi airbox e poi carburatori... e tutto diventa più semplice
Just a thought, will the chain not tighten more with weight on the bike when off the paddock stand?
The weight of the bike is on the swing arm and is transferred thru the paddock stand, rather than the rear tyre.
No
Great post with great info👍 I really like the torque those SV's have, lots of fun in a small packet. I clean and lube the chain and sprockets with Motul products every time they get dirty on my 900 FireBlade and their now 14 months old, done over 8000 fast miles, 3 track days and still look and feel like new. Muck off also make a good chain cleaner. Yep I use the same chain. Thanx for posting.
Steve, greetings. This Is the work of a profesional. Congratulations.
Hey steve where you get your chain tools from mate? Another Great video mate, keep them coming.
Which ones? The breaker tool is from Motion Pro. The press and rivet tool is from AFAM
@themobilemotorbikemechanic thank mate.
good vid, when i was poor and didnt own half the tools i needed I slacked off the chain and unhooked it from the rear sprocket and then took the front off with the front sprocket still attached, these days I just use a dremel to grind through the side of the links and use a clippy master link.
I’m not a fan of the clip style links. Especially on large CC bikes.
Great video!
I put my back out getting my last front sprocket off with a breaker bar.. definitely the way to go with the gun !
I never skimped on chains I always used the did x ring gold chains with gold talon sprocket when I had chain bikes. Cheap chains can’t cope with big torque heavy bikes like the Bbird and busa I had. Last time I bought this combo was about £140 iirc. Now I have shaft drive and don’t miss messy chains!😆
JT chain and sprockets if I can get em, I've started putting the chain lube on with a sponge, much less messy, the most important lube is already inside an o ring chain...
Great quality chain. I've had shaft drives for years though. 😬 I dont miss messing bout with chain maintenance and those damn primary drive sprocket nuts seized onto the output shaft. P.s. Always use that supplied grease on the chain pins as well as the O rings/X rings. That's the only time the pins will get greased.
When you slide on the x- rings the pins get greased 👍
Do you grease your shaft at all?😅
@@themobilemotorbikemechanicBy only a miniscule amount. Why not bung loads on?. It's supplied anyway.
I know you greased the x rings but im surprised you didn't grease the pins on the link tho I imagine you wouldn't get much grease in them and if you over tightened the link when your spreading it out how would you remedy that? Great video by the way
Go easy with pressing the plate on and it stop before it gets too tight. You can prise the plate apart if you do go too tight but it’s not something you want to do.
@@themobilemotorbikemechanicAahhh ! But you've not answered the other question, Steve.
What is your favorite bike to work on? Also what bike you dont like to work on.
Don’t really have a favourite as such. I like riding them more than repairing them 🏍️😎
Remove the rear petrol tank retaining bolt and lift the tank up a few inches which gives you plenty of access to the battery area, and you dont have to remove the tank locating brackets ....
Did King Kong tighten them bolts?😆 Top job man
Do you always need to remove a link when putting on a new chain? Don't have a breaker but could take it to someone.
Not always. Depends on length of chain supplied.
@themobilemotorbikemechanic I've got the 2023 model and just bought a new chain from the manufacturer, so was hoping I wouldn't have to count the links
The fork legs are two trees and the stem is the third 👍 I rebuilt my 82 Iron Head 1000 xlh swan necked frame, top and bottom end rebuild and the gear box. I had to have my cups machined to fit the shovel head triple trees and inch over wide glide forks. I think it's great that you post these vids as it probably encourages other bikers to pick up a spanner and learn to maintain their ride, there's no better feeling than knowing you can fix it if it breaks. Keep up the good work and may the weather be kind 👍
I thought that might be what it was all about 👍👍👍
How to open the panel in front of the battery?
👍
Hey man, what is that stand called? The one that had the bike pivoting on the frame?
It’s an ABBA stand
@themobilemotorbikemechanic ahh brilliant! Cheers, I'm planning to get an LXR SE so want a way to lift the front wheel! Many thanks, love the vids!
Greetings Steve. Repair very well done. Nice motorcycle. Thank you so much.
