It feels wrong doing a "Thumbs up" - But - "All Hail The Algorithm" ... Poor Mark. I am not going to defend Portugal here ; since I have experienced many of the "office / paperwork" problems myself - and am used to the Weekend problem (although I would say that is historically exactly what the UK was like 'n ' numbers of years ago... Many countries are still the same that way - 5 working days : and that's it. + add the "talvez amanhã" and it is next to impossible to rush anything... ) I am glad to see the whole video (I have been waiting for this to drop ) - a lot of the story is now fully told :-) The Taxi ride to Porto sounds fun - Portugal does not have many big Theme parks to get your "scary ride" fix - But apparently you can get the mobile version ;-) (I should not joke about that because it sounded literally life threatening) Part two is being awaited with Antici ... 👄.... pation ...
Thumbs up appreciated :) It does make quite a tale, even if it’s a sob story!
@@whojamaflip1 Not really a 'sob story' - a set of 'snafus' that would drive most normal people insane. Since Insurance companies rely on stuff "not happening" as a business model (and that is what BMW Assist is - Bolt on Insurance) - they put together plans that are rarely tested : I wonder how many times BMW have had to recover a bike from PT - Probably could count on one hand.. ? ... (perhaps)
@Flub-A-Dub the policy covers both bikes and cars, and the office in UK definitely knew their Portugal counterparts were rubbish….so Allianz should have enough info to deal with their agents. As for sending you insane…..as you say, for a normal person it’s a problem. But for Mark….perhaps a tad too late????
These have to be the most minor quibbles I've ever heard 😂 waiting for the 1300 lineup
I do basically agree with you, this episode might have better been described as “things that niggle me about the….” The R1250RT is definitely one of the best bikes I’ve ridden.
If you wanted to do a long tour (3000+ miles), would you rather be on this or an R1250RS?
Having just got back from a long tour on a GS and having done one on a RS in the past Mark, the owner of both, would probably choose the RS….but only because of two things A: BMW can’t provide luggage for the GS at the moment B: the GS broke down on the tour and BMW have yet to complete it’s repatriation! (Video about that to follow!)
@@whojamaflip1 Well that sucks! I have an RS and I'm thinking of trading for a GS. I have a 35" inseam and the RS is tough on a long day even though I love riding it. I'm aware of the luggage situation so I'll go aftermarket. The break down isn't encouraging though. Thanks for the reply.
If it wasn’t for the breakdown I’d say GS over the RS, the GS has a more compliant ride and better wind protection. Plus the engine is a step forward. We think the issue with the GS is likely a fried bit of electrical post v heavy rain and I can’t find any reports of similar breakdowns on line (actually very few reports of faults) so hopefully not a common fault. But until the bike is back and repaired we won’t know.
I’ve had my RS 18 months now and agree with everything said. Best all round bike I’ve ever had. Does it all. Fast, decent handling, tours brilliantly, and it has a genuine jeckyll and hyde character. It can be visceral and exciting or steady and relaxed depending on your mood and road conditions. Simply a brilliant and much under rated bike and of all the boxer range, that torquey lump seems to be ideally suited to the RS. Beautifully made and finished too. There is a fly in the ointment though and that’s the 1250 RT. Yes, it has an old man image but ride one and you’d be amazed. Even easier to flat foot, way more comfortable and surprisingly handles as well as the RS and has genuine go. It does it all too, just with better weather protection and comfort. Way better slow speed stability and turns on a sixpence. How they’ve managed to make a big tourer this capable, I’ll never know but it’s genuinely that good. I’m in two minds about parting with my RS for one but a test ride soon confirmed that for comfort alone and all day touring, nothing comes close but minus panniers I’ve also hooned it around b roads with total confidence. Think of it as an rs on steroids. More refined, better equipped and way more comfortable yet it also has the same split personality with genuine pace. Much prefer either to the GS which simply doesn’t feel as refined or as stable for high speed road work. I sold my GSA when I discovered the RS and never looked back. Now, annoyingly, I can’t ignore the RT’s talents😂
Really interesting comment, thank you. As the owner of a R1200RT I agree with much of what you say, but also think the new r1300 GS is a very interesting bike. I think anyone who buys an Rs, RT or GS is buying a very good bike!
@@whojamaflip1 the 1300 doesn’t appeal to me at all and is grossly over-priced imho. Having seen one, I dislike the looks too. The 1250 RT is genuinely a step up from the 1200. Smoother, torquier and even more refined. I’ve ridden both many miles as a volunteer blood biker. Only the RS and 1250 RT do it for me😉
The looks of the 1300GS are definitely marmite! Having ridden a 1200rt, 1250rs&gs and a 1300gs, engine wise I completely agree with you about the 1250 being a step up from the 1200, but the 1300 is another jump forward…..I’m really looking forward to trying the 1300rt when that comes out!
Do you have instagram ?
Nope, afraid not
Would you have any bikes on your list rather than cbr650r ?
Once I’ve added the C90, no. But that’s because my choice of bikes suits my needs and space available…..if any of those change my choice would change too. For eg I would love to have a yamaha niken and a Goldwing….but can’t justify either at the moment!
Got 2022 (manual transmission) month ago. Originally was thinking about CB500X as an addition to my Tracer 900GT for light off road riding. Ended up with NC750X. 1100 miles later I’m positively surprised. It’s more fun on twisty roads than Tracer. Frunk is great. No more top case needed. Great fuel economy and after installing front TKC80 is great on gravel roads. To bad it’s lower than the previous model though. I’m taking her out more often than Tracer lately. Seems like Tracer for longer trips and NC for local backroads. Still thinking about investing in C/C…
I’ve seen a surprising number of people using them for light to medium off road, they do appear capable in that way. Glad you are enjoying it.
That’s the sweetest and most romantic video of all that I have watched about this bike. All the best, safe riding and you should know that your words made me decide to go for it full on.
What a great comment, thank you!
I bought a 2023 DCT model. I agree with much of your summary especially the harsh suspension - I actually popped two rib joints after hitting a water filled pothole last Winter and it took several months to recover but I am an old fart. The seat gets uncomfortable quickly and standard tires are worse than rubbish - with less than 2000 miles on them I swapped them out for PR4's. The brakes are average. I find the engine okay but a bit agricultural sounding especially in slow town riding. On the plus side it's dead easy to work on which was why I chose it over the CB500X which has hard to get at shim valve adjustment - I adjusted the NC valves in little over an hour. As you say, it's a 'head' purchase rather than 'heart'. I bought it mostly for carrying around my photography gear for which the frunk is fabulous but I've also done a few longer trips (90mpg+) too. I've added a few accessory bits and bobs so I'll be keeping it for a good few years as they do have a good rep for longevity.
Interesting summary, having ridden the pre 2021 DCT versions for over 40k miles, I would imagine you are getting the best out of the bike…it really suits the DCT box
Number 6 it is slow and dull
Perhaps you may have missed the point of the video? I think you’d rather this one… ruclips.net/user/shortstVge5lEBGEw?si=-IrUgLQZLZL3ch21
Did later models have cruise control? Looks like a nice bike
Nope, my 2016 was one of the last of the bikes and they never fitted cruise. I don’t think you could even get cruises on the adventure version which continued until about 2021. This is in the UK, but I think it’s the same thing for all markets. There are some after market options, but they are either really basic (potentially dangerous) or very expensive.
How loud is the exhaust at mid rpms
Not very loud TBH, it only really starts to scream/make noise around 9000 revs
Make a ride pov with pure sound
Don’t have good enough equipment to get the sound at the moment 🙁 you’d just get lots of wind noise!
That's fine@@whojamaflip1
Quickshifter though who cares
Some will, quick shifter or not I didn’t like it.
It's nothing to do with design. The reason is BMW see the US market as their main market. Stupid indicators/flashing brake lights have been a feature of lax safety laws in the US for decades. BMW has decided to save money on production by not producing separate versions for civilised countries and another for the US. They are also saving a bucket on separate brake lights. To hell with everyone else in the World being rear-ended, but as production will move to the US in the next few years, they're looking after their patrons.
I would imagine a lot of what you say is right, I’d also assume the position of the radar for the blind spot mirror is involved too. Whatever the reason…..it’s shite!
Very nice except for the wind noise.
Agreed , never found a way to resolve that. My current bike has this type fitted VSYSTO Motorcycle Dash Cam D6RL... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09KTGHK4M?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share But I have the same issue with wind noise and it doesn’t permanently save clips like the Blueskysea does….couldn’t find the B1Ms available at the time though.
"Dropped the ball" - you are too generous : it is a mind blowing bit of bad design.
Not going to disagree with you there!
Thanks for a great every day review, just what I was looking for.
Thanks, hope it helped 😀
looks bloody cold in that garage bro
😂😂😂 sometimes it can be! Not allowed to take the bikes into the living room though 😟
Very nice on this bike. Can you tell us the reference of the mounting brakets used in this video because when i search on the shad site, they said this will not fit an 2021 Nc750x bike.
According to the website it’s H0NC72IF….but that’s just me checking now, I did the video a long time ago and didn’t take note of the part number
Dumbest thing I’ve heard about the bike. No idea whatsoever
If you don’t think that (if nothing else) both the screen and BMW connect app are rubbish, either you are blinded by the £13k plus just spent on the bike…or you’ve never ridden one!
Who is the other half ? Your spouse bike?
Yup, Other half is a phrase which means husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend
So it is your friends bike ? And how many bikes you own currently?@@whojamaflip1
Are you married or still a bachelor
I’m married and we currently have three bikes, the GS, a R1200RT and a Honda CBR650R, though I am planning on buying a Honda C90 too soon
C90 was amazing 😂@@whojamaflip1
Someone should build a cafe racer version out this
That must be sarcasm???
I was thinking of getting one until I watched your video. Now I know I’m gonna get one! If those are your biggest five complaints, then this is one hell of a bike!
Couldn’t agree more 😀
& about the seating position ? (and I am not talking just about a numb bum) : sit up - straight back, less strain on the back, arms , wrists? - that must a difference between the Citroën GS adventure & RT1200 ... presumably
Actually the Citroen GS has a slightly less upright position to the RT, if I had the GS I think I’d have handle bar risers to make it a little more upright.
@@whojamaflip1 Most unusual - it seems to point toward the Citroën GS being a move towards a tame cross between adventure & sports (which you seemed to allude to) - not really an purist "adventure" like the older GS's
Indeed
Thanks for the video, I wonder if you’d know what would be involved in retro fitting the CBR650R headlight and fairings to a CBR 650F (I hate the single light it has)
From what I know Honda have made limited changes to the frame between this and the previous 650R so there is a chance it would all fit back one gen, not sure how much change there has been between the 650F and R…I’d want to have a long discussion with the Honda parts guy and look over the two parts diagrams before purchasing !
I’ve proven how tough Touratech bars are. It’s money well spent. 👍🏻👍🏻
They couldn’t look more solid!
Hi my god !! So many insurmountable problems 😂😂 If you told me the crank snaps at 500ks I might have taken your advice.
😂😂 It’s not meant as a don’t buy the bike , I think it’s a great bike with no really major flaws. Though the range and app were disappointing particularly for me.
I’ve actually got one It’s a fantastic bike
👍
Get over yourself
Thank you for your helpful constructive criticism 😂😂😂😂
Get the 2024 akrapovic full system exhaust , may be it adds a couple of horses and weight reduction too ..
Good suggestion….. but I’m a bit odd…..I don’t like aftermarket exhausts or tail tidies…..I know, Motocycle God is preparing my place in hell now 😂
@@whojamaflip1what watch you are wearing ?
And want to have a good full face helmet Any suggestions?
@nivasgamini2885 it’s a £25 Casio bought in 2018…. I’m not spending money on watches when there are bikes to buy! (You might note from my exquisite outfits, the same goes for clothes!)
Re helmets- So much down to head shape, I have a very round head and have a SCHUBERTH C5, but have had comfortable Shoie, HJC and Caberg helmets, all of which are good quality IMO
good video! Do I have to remove the exhaust if I am only installing the lower crash bars?
As far as I remember you don’t, but if you go on the givi website they normally have the fitting instructions available so you should be able to see there.
@@whojamaflip1 Just finished the lower guards...the lower guards are what require the exhaust to come off, not the top. some parts are definitely annoying, but at least everything went together just fine...the hardest part is getting that damn exhaust back on by myself, it is so cumbersome.
Definitely a pain in the backside, glad you are all sorted though.
This is not correct. I've ridden it and peak thrust (torque) begins precisely about 5k rpm and decays about 9krpm. Clearly not a four inline but is has LOTS more torque at that rpm range than a 600cc four inline. It is not flat at all. Are you sure you haven't driven a restricted A2 Hornet?. Medium range high torque is what pleasure most people everyday conmuting. On the other part you are more than correct to say that if you are looking for a high rpm engine, best look elsewhere.
I’m filming beside the bike in my garage…of course I’ve ridden it 😂 My comments are not right or wrong, they are an opinion of how the bike felt to me, I make it clear that you need to try the bike to see what you think. But I completely agree lots will love the bike and engine….the fun of biking however is that every bike is different and everyone’s taste is different, every other review I’ve seen praises the engine which is why I was surprised to find it disappointing and thought it appropriate to highlight just this one point as a word of caution to try before you buy.
Sorry, should also have said, def not an A2 hornet, I even asked the garage I borrowed it from.
Your summary is flawed as it makes its most torque at 7500 revs.
You are right about the figures on paper, but……Sorry my summary was “you should ride the bike to see what you think”. Performance figures don’t tell you how it feels, I’ve described how it made me feel and flagged that as a warning to others. I have owned multiple NCs which have similar levels of torque and less bhp and been more than happy with them, I’d be more than happy with this engine in an adventure bike…..I personally didn’t feel the engine and bike sat well together. If you have ridden the bike and you still disagree with me…you would only be further proving the point I was trying to make as it’s all about how it makes you feel. 😁 Also on a side note, the higher you are in the rev range the less important the torque figure.
@@whojamaflip1 I own the bike, I use it my commuter. And your still mistaken
I’m sorry but I can’t be mistaken about how a bike made ME feel 😂 What you mean is you don’t feel that way about the bike. 😉 I’m glad you are happy with the bike and I have no doubt lots of people will be, that’s the beauty of biking, it’s so much about personal preference.
@@whojamaflip1 it’s ok as a commuter and it has a bit of character for a parallel twin. I reckon it’s favourably comparable to anything else in its section of the market. However, if it wasn’t for its reliability issues, the original 790 duke would be a good choice
Couldn’t agree more, it is a really good bike….hence why the engine was the only thing I picked fault with. Personally I think at the price point it’s a brilliant commuter/fun at the weekend type bike.
I am not worried about having to remove the exhaust once...but the big question is, can I remove the fairings without having to remove the exhaust and bars? mostly thinking about how difficult it may be in the future to change air filters.
I honestly don’t know, I had the bike to about 13,000 miles and though the dealer never complained about the bars getting in the way, I don’t think a air filter change would have been due until 16,000 miles.
@@whojamaflip1 no worries! thanks for the reply!
whooohoo - very telling ;-) "Citroën GS " - Freudian slip about your true desire ? - Flat 4 Piston count envy ?
It’s the bloody letters GS that triggers it, BMW have only used G/S since 1980 and GS since 1987….whereas the Citroen GS came out in 1970….BMW are just name thieves !
@@whojamaflip1 ... they just stole the name & you only get half as much - forgot about 2 of the wheels and a useful thing like a rain protecting roof ... not a real advancement on the 1970's 🤣
Thanks, nice motorcycle
Thanks 😀
I think the indicator was a joke of a reason. The rest were decent. The petrol tank could be a miter if two bigger. Those blinkers are bright and take a beating. The main reason is the R1300RS. You’re welcome !
Indicators on the RS are a particular big bear of mine, but it may just be me 😂 For such a good bike, it’s just such a shame, but you are right they are bright. Didn’t drop or damage the indicators so can’t comment on if they are as fragile as they look! I think the rear lights/blinkers on the R1300RS are a joke, we have just spent £350ish improving them on our R1300GS, but the indicators ones in the hand guards are brilliant!
250 miles…if you ride at 50mph all the time
Not at all, 80mpg in mixed use and normal riding is easily achievable, I’ve had multiple NCs and if you thrash the hell out of them you’ll get high 60s, but any normal riding will get you to 80mpg no problem.
And 3 reasons NOT to buy: 1) small road clearance 2) weak motor. Enough to drive for 50+ oldie, but not enough for real biker 3) stupid trunk, which could be WAY more useful if made as a fuel tank.
Re point 2….most bikers across Europe and the US are over 50 so it appears to be designed pretty well then! Plus is a “real biker” only someone who has say 80bhp or more? 90bhp? Where does real biking start?
Helibars, puppies grips, gel seat, givi screen. Piston ktech ohlins springs on fork. Wilbers 643 competition schock. Sport tyres. Exhaust Dam and lithium battery saves 6kg. The best bike yo can drive if you want to go fast and long distances! High quality first class 👌
I loved mine, but not sure your summary and mine would match!
Very cool innovation!

handicap people's peripheral assistance system - Honda HPPAS
You are right of course, any aid must be for the disabled. No doubt you ride a bike without electric start because that’s for people without the strength to kick start a bike. 😂😂😂
Thanks for the video. What a pain in the a…. I was trying hard and carful but still like you broke one of the „connectors“. They made it really hard to take it apart….same goes for the front part with the windshield and the „nose“. 😅🤦🏻♂️
Sorry I didn’t manage to help you avoid breaking a clip! Hopefully yours is like mine and it’s invisible that it’s broken once back together. Haven’t tried removing the nose cone yet…..something to look forward too! 😬😬😬
do i have do slide the fairing to the front of the bike or to the back?
If you are holding the fairing you move it towards the front of the bike….it is very stiff and fragile so be careful ! It maybe if you loosened the front fairing around the screen/headlight it might be a bit easier but I haven’t yet tried to see if it’s possible.
Build quality of your video is a bit suspect, why did you film in portrait when all computer and all TVs are in landscape and you can hold a mobile sideways for landscape? Just bought a new G310R and sold my R1250RS as I don't see myself doing any big tours anymore. The wife will be doing the same and getting rid of her S1000XR. The 319R is a fun little machine, had it 2 days and have put 150 running in miles on it so far, most impressed.
Re the aspect ratio of this video, its because I shoot the "5 reasons to buy/not to buy" videos primarily to make into shorts and shorts have to be filmed in portrait as they are meant to be viewed on phones. The shorts also can only be 1 minute long so they are heavily editied down. Rather than waste the extra material, I used the full material to make a longer version as a "normal" video....but by that point I was stuck with the portrait content (I don't have a way to shoot with a safe area so I can produce both at the same time) I agree its not the best look and on my more recent videos I've switched to generally doing it as a landscape seperate piece of filming for the longer reviews. As to the the G310R, I don't think anyone would be wrong to buy one if it suits thier needs, I found it great fun to ride and put about 200 miles on it it the day I had it......and for the use you have it sounds like a good choice.
Interesting video - the 5 pluses i agree with, from the 5 negatives the screen is the only one that really matters the others are nitpicks that don't bother me...and oddly enough at 6ft the std screen doesn't give me any issues on my RS..it seems to annoy taller or short riders...subjective I guess. Out of the 8 or so BMs i have owned over the years this one is the best all round package ...just progressive development showing i guess. It is smooth, powerful when needed, quiet and fast ...and has the best gearbox so far....but my 1200R seems to have a better gearbox...it is silent into 1st gear, the RS only sometimes is. Probably oil type and weight perhaps ?
I do mostly agree with what you say, it’s one of the hardest bikes I reviewed to find negatives about and it is to an extent nitpicking, none would stop me buying the bike.
So, to buy or not to buy? Personally, I think it's a nice-looking bike, decent quality, and does enough for a 300. I think the GS310 edges it for me, though - the big question is, servicing costs - reasonable or not, given its a BMW?
Problem is you will be paying BMW labour rates so it’s bound to be relatively costly. Personally I think it’s kind of a half BMW (not in size, but quality cache etc) so not convinced it’s worth BMWs pricing
Its a bike for real riders. I mean people who ride everywhere, everyday in all seasons and all weathers. Its not for the nice weather only, weekender, coffee shop leather jacket matching helmet horsepower/penis size brigade.
Couldn’t agree with you more 😀
Very good touring bike if they had put a good seat on it . But they didn't 🦧
I did loads of touring on my 2016 & 2019 750x with an upgraded seat and thought it was great for touring, but I think the post 2021 bikes suspension is too harsh for touring. In trying to make the bike more sporty, they have taken away a little too much comfort for me.
Barely it's a problem - disassemble the sit and buy memory foam - any handyman can make you the best sit in the world! :)
Agree changing the seat inners is a good path……but “Any handyman “….only if you want to make your bike look like it’s been hacked about by a 4 year old. You need someone with real skill to make a seat which feels and looks good.
