I think Greece is good for people who have an income from abroad or people who have accumulated some wealth to live on in Greece. It is DEFINITELY not a good idea to come to Greece financially broke. I lived in Malta as well. I had the best 5 years of my life there but Malta has changed in the past 10 years. Finding accommodation which is affordable is really difficult. Expect to pay at least 1000 EUR for 1 bedroom flat. It is now overcrowded, the real estate market has been destroyed by the influx of people coming from Dubai to work in Malta since Dubai has become too expensive for people on low income. Malta has become very expensive. You need a good income in order to enjoy your life there. I think Poland is now very happening now. Lots of job opportunities. I think you might have better chances in Poland. Plus your family and friends are there. You might earn more money there and spend some of that money in Malta on holiday. Best of luck to you. Subscribe to my channel. I will be taking you on my life journey in Crete and other places I visit on business trips. I will be moving to Crete. I fell in love with the island, its people, the countryside, the climate. Good luck to you in Malta. Sahha.

This is why living in Southern Europe (Spain, Italy, Greece etc.) is not a good choice, because they only interact with their families. For foreigners those are difficult places.

Thank you so much for this. As an American near retirement, I could come there, retire and be comfortable there. My whole life has been spent here in the USA. My ex husband is Greek and now lives there again after over 44 years in the USA. He loves Greece but realizes many things that are bad in his homeland. He is financially ok and lives comfortably in Greece but says he misses us here. He feels like a strange in his homeland but his quality of life is better in Greece. The U.S. is extremely hard life as you age. It’s for young ambitious hardworking people. We are seniors now and ready to relax now. I will be 65 soon and wanting to stop working and live a bit before I am too old to do so. It’s hard in U.S. but in a different way. You have to be very strong to endure it. Greece is for vacation and retirement, sadly. Greece doesn’t produce like some European countries do. Corruption and not creating opportunities for their citizens and the EU seems to want to keep it that way. I love Greek culture. My heart is with Greek people, here and the homeland. Lovely and thoughtful video. All the best on your next journey 💙

Greece is the most beautiful country in the world but I could not stand the rampant corruption on all levels and left... Do I miss it? Elements of it, yes. BUT, I love being in a place where honesty, hard work and integrity count. Greece is all but destroyed because of the corruption. Even those that are not corrupt have to adjust in order to survive. Greeks vote for the same corrupt politicians every time and expect different results. Doesn't work this way... Used to have beautiful scenery and it has been destroyed by the wind generators on every mountain top... Used to have amazing food and that has been destroyed as well by imports of fruits, veggies, meats, dairy and fish, that does not taste as good as it used to in years past. Unfortunately, Greece is done, finished, kaput, sayonara...

I have worked in Greece as a stage resort entertainer in top 5 stars resorts. You can make a lot of money anywhere IF YOU HAVE THE SKILLS. If you don't have skills that can easily translate into money it will be hard anywhere. Content creation can also make you money, through brand deals mostly! There's many content creators out there who are crashing it...however charisma is needed to build a brand that lasts. So...if you are a content creator but didn't make enough in Greece...and your niche is based on traveling, you cannot stay a lot in one country only. If your brand is wellness, relationships, finances & co, then you can build it from one country only. The rest of the people who work 9-5 or any other type of make your boss rich hours, will be poor in any country.

If you knew all of this, then why did you come back? Greece, has lost its soul its purpose its culture, religion. The political system is the problem, it has handed the keys to the country, to this failed institution called the E E.U.Greece, is only good for a holiday, then you leave and come back a few years later for another holiday and leave again. Its sad but thats the awful reality. So your polish.Poland has a fantastic leader and is a country will laws which she defends vigorously. Greece, has laws too, but no one follows them, and no one enforces them, thats why the country is FKD.

Pati, the very few videos that I’ve watched,I loved each and everyone one of them. I love your personality because you come across as being very down-to-earth and I appreciate and respect this attitude. No BS,only true feelings and facts. We’ve all heard the saying « Money doesn’t bring happiness « .I’m going to be a bit of a Contrarian because it does. A case in point is your situation,if you would’ve landed a good job with a good salary that would’ve allowed you to enjoy Athens/Greece without the financial restrictions, you would stay put and just enjoy life. Also, when you have enough money in your purse, you will always be out and about and meet other people and never feel lonely. Money is not to be worshipped but it is necessary to bring us happiness in our day to day life. I sincerely wish you all the best in your next adventure and hopefully you will be able to put roots in Malta as your main Hub.

At first let me wish you the best luck for whatever you wish to do in your life. I don't mean to criticize but, from what you stated in your video, it seems like to me that you are not really a career person with any desired professional skills (nurse, engineer, management staff etc.) so I would assume that whatever you did in Greece for a living your earnings would at or slightly higher than the minimum wage and please correct me if I am wrong. Unfortunately with the exception of countries like Albania, Montenegro and the rest, life in Europe is expensive and anyone with low wages will face a struggle. At least in Greece you would have the weather, the sea, the food and all the rest of benefits that make the Greek atmosphere rather than the gloomy and dark northern Europe. Nonetheless be safe and the my best wishes to you. I am Greek born and raised in Athens and I love it.

I bet you couldn't stand a month under our circumstances! (And judging by your words I think that a month is a long period for you, probably you couldn't stand a week!)

I believe it too when you surrender you relax, and thus become more open energetically. Maybe I missed a detail in the video, but was it hard in Greece for you due to the language as well?

    • @PatiTheTimelessTraveller

No, I personally didn't have an issue with the language, but I'm in Athens. In smaller islands, it might be harder without knowing any Greek, but Athens are fine.

I'm in a similar situation right now. I'm having to leave London after living here for 20-odd years and heading back to Greece where I am originally from. I've only heard back from one of the many job applications I've sent and that fell through. The overall picture is really unprofessional and really low pay. I'm really concerned.

Do you have to go? Absolutely? I don’t want to disappoint you but it won’t be easy. Except if you are getting paid a GREAT salary (more than €2500, very hard to find here) and you have great relationships/connections.

@@athsait7215 Yes, I am a victim of the housing crisis. I've broken up recently too. No, I don't have connections. This is why I've lived in London so long. I've wanted to leave London for many years but no job back in Greece. It's hell with the housing here at the moment. The highest percentage of homelessness in the whole of Europe is in London.

Try salaries in the US, they're even funnier. Plus, you're entirely on your own in the US. No family to help you out, no family home to go to if times get tough, no health insurance if you get sick. Go to America. There's nothing like living in America to make you appreciate Greece, warts and all... Oh and don't forget your gun :)

Oh, Pati - I am so happy for you to have made a decision and withstood the process - until The Universe came through !!!! 😉. You demonstrated keen reflection, sound thinking AND decision making, especially allowing yourself to SURRENDER in order to stop depleting yourself with stress. Looking forward to seeing your videos about your “new life” in Malta !! One suggestion: you might want to put some thought into how to leverage your RUclips channel into a business, rather than just a beloved hobby. “Pretty Over Fifty” put out a recent video on just this subject. 1) Developing a mailing list (offering a weekly newsletter/note) and 2) Creating B2B relationships will enable you to bring in revenue streams, which RUclips views alone will never provide. I wish you ALL the best of luck and a WILDLY SUCCESSFUL a MOVE TO MALTA !!! 🇲🇹. 😘-V

My parents left Greece for Canada in 1957: now, everyone I know here is homeless (fortunately, I share a 50 square foot broom closet in the Toronto Underground with a Supreme Court judge, a celebrated neurosurgeon, and an eminent university professor).

I am also planning on leaving Greece next year. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a beautiful country and I will for sure come to vacation, but living here is very hard. I have to think of what’s best for my 11 year old son, and in the US I feel he has more opportunities to grow. Greece is beautiful I agree, but living here is not the same as vacationing. I wish you the best of luck in your new endeavors 😊

I love your look out on live. It's so much different to mine but I could see myself doing just the same at the same time :D Life in Berlin is also crazy expensive atm too. If you want to find a flat for 2 people that has at least 2 rooms you can pay insane amounts just to be considered to get it. If I was by myself I could not afford it with my current job.
