Moving to Athens in a few months from the US 🇬🇷🎉
Oh, good luck! You will love it!
be prepared to be ripped off.
Sorry to hear that. Go for a while, you'll have a good time but do not unpack your bags.
LOL, yes! Greece has become so f'ing expensive! @@bwana-ma-coo-bah425

It's a stunning country!

New subscriber here! I love Athens! My daughter was made in Athens. I hope your stay there goes well and that you are enjoying it!
Thank you! I really like it here! Thank you for the sub :)
Great video, I am a new subscriber, and I am moving to Athens, Greece as it looks like now in August. I got a one-bedroom apartment with a back garden, around the city center. for 510 including bills.
That's a great find! Congratulations! I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do!
I am Greek and I agree with your estimates, they are very accurate. Of course, most of the Greeks complain because half of the employees are paid less than 851 euros netto per month which is barely enough for a single person, but for a family it is definitely not sufficient to make ends meet. For a family of 4, you need to have a household income of at least 2350 euros per month. For villages or smaller continental cities, the cost of living is lower of course.
Well, truth be told, Greece was never an economic powerhouse like France, Germany, or Italy, and Greeks often fight among themselves and can't agree on anything! How do I know? I'm Greek-American, and my father is from Greece. Been there tons of times and I know how many of the people are. Politically, they are just as divided as the USA is currently. IF they were more business minded, they would have built industry like many other parts of Europe.
@@AudiophileTubes huge bureaucracy and constant change of taxation laws do not favor doing business in Greece. As for politics, times have changed, nobody really cares nowadays. Very few people actually vote and even fewer believe in political parties "saving" them.
Interesting. Thanks for your input! @@chriszavos
@@AudiophileTubesI wouldn't say they are as politically divided. There's plenty of people that are friends with someone who has very different political ideas and they make fun of each other in a friendly way. Never seen anybody in Greece running around with a t-shirt figuring a party or politician or having signs outside their door where they write "vote XY!".
We are not devided anymore We dont even vote !!!! Politics are dead in greece...😅😅
What a beautiful balcony love the flat too
Thank you ❤️
Awesome, thank you!!
I Love it, very useful tips ❤😊 thx 👏
Thank you for your video. You have very helpful tips. WE will definitely consider then on our trip to Athens
I bought an apartment last March, also a penthouse, but I live in Volos. I lived through the floods in September, and unfortunately, even being up high, we had water coming in through the roof, so every apartment in our building flooded, but I’m still so happy to have the nice outdoor space to put a swing on in the summer and the spring time, or to have coffee outside, etc. I am almost totally blind, so, I really need as much light as possible, and this apartment has windows all around. I rented before buying this place, and the same, it was a penthouse with a huge balcony and a lot of light.
Yes, I love those apartments! Gets hot in the summer and maybe colder in the winter, but the light and the size of the balcony are worth it! Fingers crossed for no floods this year!
Very nice.thank you for sharing.
An excellent video, thanks for sharing your experiences! Really informative. Good luck as you go along in your expat journey!
Thank-you!!
Happy birthday!
Thank you!!
Hi Pati! What a lovely and insightful video you have made! Thank you for that!
Your penthouse looks super cosy and the patio must be a great vantage point to watch the sun go down in the evenings! Bliss!

You are a very strong lady! Bravo hang in there you’ll be fine! Have a great time and enjoy your time in Greece. You are doing great. Be careful . I am Greek but I leave in the states and I did what you are doing now and I had the time of my life. Who knows you might meet some nice person and stay there. I be waiting for your next post to see how getting along. 💐💐💐
Thank you!
Hello Pati. I’ve just found your channel and hope to see more videos from you. Your apartment has all the necessities and is quite nice but you will be living on your outdoor space most of the year, so the fact that you have such a nice outdoor space is a huge bonus. Your English is very good so don’t fret about that. Have you gone to any of the outdoor farmers markets for produce shopping yet? I hear the prices are more affordable than supermarkets.
Yes, I have just started exploring the markets and loving it! Thank you for your kind comment :)
Moving to Greece is my dream🌼
I like your apartment. It's cozy, quaint, and rustic. That's my style.
I hope to visit Greece 🇬🇷. My heart is drawn there.
Great video!😊
Thank you! I like it to and it has a nice feel :) There is something about Greece, you should definitely visit!
I really enjoyed watching your move to Greece and the reality of it all. Moving anywhere comes with its own pros and cons.
Yes, that's for sure! But it's worth taking a risk and seeing what might happen :)

I found your chanel yesterday. I subscribe already. Have a nice stay here. ❤ Greetings from Rhodes
Thank you! Im hoping to visit Rhodes this year :)
Hi Pati! ☺ loving your videos! So fun to watch! 🤩 I have a question how did you find your apartment in Athens ( via fb groups or maybe flat rental pages? thank you!
Actually I found it via rental agency. The company I work for gave me a list of agencies I could contact. It was perfect as the agent helped me a lot with getting all the paperwork sorted so for the first timers this might be the best option. But you will have to pay a months worth of agency fee so keep this in mind. Thank you for your kind commrent!
@@PatiTheTimelessTraveller thank you for your honesty and sharing it with us here!☺
Athens is a fun place to visit but after a while it grinds you down with the lack of proper infrastructure, pollution/noise pollution reducing the quality of life.
I am enjoying it so far :) We will see what the future bring ;)
❤
Pati, if you think that weather in Poland is depressing, you should avoid Scotland at all cost 😂😅
That is a really nice place for Athens! That balcony would look great with potted plants/flowers too. How is your job going? What do you do?
I'm planning to get some plants! And I want to grow some herbs and maybe even veggies :)
Polli oraia! @@PatiTheTimelessTraveller
Nice video, Pati.
Btw, Cyprus is amazing (higher standard of living than Greece). If you have an opportunity to work there, definitely take it.
Higher living standard less in everything else.
You never know ;)
Higher, not for very much longer considering the high pace of growth of the Greek economy (higher that Cyprus's) due to an unprecedented plethora (as Greece is a much, much, much, much bigger country than Cyprus) of dozens of billions of euro of foreign direct investment in all sectors of the Greek economy currently (for instance MICROSOFT which is currently building three of the largest Cloud Data Base centers in the world in the outskirts of Athens). In three to maximum five years from now when all of these MEGA investments will have start producing GDP you may be surprised how hasty and ignorant and outdated your statement about your tiny little island comparing to the 20 times bigger Greece was.
@@user-wo5dv6gf1g Yea, ok. No need to be rude though.

For the fellow Greeks:
Before telling everyone "how poor Greeks are" consider this: The minimum salary is low (compared to most EU countries). How many employees get paid this salary? What about the self-employed and businessmen? Secondly, salaries and income aren't the same thing. Many Greeks in big cities rent out apartments? Especially with the airbnb they make very good money.
Apart from this, please be aware that the digital nomads that move to Greece are forced by law to get paid 3500€/month + money for every family member. So, they don't care if you're struggling. They just love how cheap and beautiful Greece is, compared to other countries.
I am not sure what your point is here, but thank you for your comment 😊
@@PatiTheTimelessTraveller What is the point of all these people who comment that Greeks are poor and the minimum salary is very low? I fed up with them. You're having a good time in Greece and this has nothing to do with the minimum salary, which you don't get in any case. It is the toxicity of some Greeks that bother me, and my comment was for them. Cheers.
Lot of light in your apartment as you say, but pretty ugly surroundings with all these old athenian houses. And the little kitchen is typical for such older greek renting houses. Hope you will enjoy your life there.
Can I live for 1000 euro's a month in Greece? 500 euro for apartment rent and 500 euro for food and other things?
It would be a simple living and with no chance for saving much. But it's double and I know people who live off this money. Including me 😀
not in athens , you can in smaller cities
@@ioannistsi2745how about 1,000 euro if you have no rent
Not in Athens, but in other cities, yes. I mean, you could live in Athens, but I wouldn't really call it comfortable living and you 'll certainly not save anything.
Athens feels very third world... Really dirty , busted up sidewalks and tons of graffiti.. That's a easy pass..
The highways are gorgeous! Better than the U.S.!
That's only down town.
So happy to see your new video! Your energy is contagious 😂
Oh, thank you so much! ☺️
The one thing that is a massive blocker for me is the thought of financial security for the future. Having a good job with a good pension scheme, reduces the worry. Curious to hear your take on it Pati.
If I understood you correctly, you had a good career and stability and was able to walk away from all of it. What changed your mindset and if it’s not too personal, how do you see your future?
This is a very broad topic, and I am taking a financial risk here. I will be looking to make a separate video on this, but I am not an expert, so I am still thinking about it.
I just found you and I think you are great! thanks for the vid!
Thank you!! 😊
