A very quiet 11m band
Finished work and decided to get to my perch, sort of , but went to see if I could sit in the car park of a few pubs I knew of up near my perch, so i could grab some refreshments while trying for some DX, it wasn't a complete failure, but the band was quiet.

I managed to get out for the 10 years of AM and SSB event up to Burton Dasset Hills, there were a few on and some odd QSOs, DX was a bit flat, but all in all i enjoyed it.

A Perch in Wiltshire
Просмотров 3702 месяца назад
I Had a bit of a hectic weekend last weekend, down in Wiltshire, but me and my daughter found a spare half an hour to go check out a nice perch that she knew 10 minutes away from her home. Not a very long video today as I've come down with a nasty bout of Flu since we got back and struggled to get this one together, but hope you enjoy the video.

👌👍👍
yes i was one of the ones that spent hundreds on a rig, so i could occasionally find somewon to ask "how is my signal" xD
It's all good fun and worth it right?
Nice one Al, take care bud. Enjoy the wedding 🎉 73s
Thanks bud hopefully the weather will hold
Loved my combo. Got me up many hills and never once let me down even after 170000 miles. Sadly snapped chain after 12 years of ownership and now I’m looking for another 👍
Great little vans and i will be sad to see her eventually go but who knows she may still keep going
@@Al.26TC101 let’s hope so al as they’re plenty good enough for dx work. I’ve an 18 plate ford and it’s not a patch on my combo 🤣 Quick question best place for leisure battery and split charge system 👍
@japautosalon ebay for the charge system and the leisure battery I just searched Internet, not cheap though.
Hi Al.great to see your van. As an old car hi-fi installer, I got to mention a safety issue that you have. The cable you got connected to the original battery has no fuse going to the plus pole. This is very important to protect you against a short cut on the chassis of your car. Such a short cut will cause the wire to glow red hot and set your car in fire. Always put a fuse in line with the plus battery and as short distance to pole. To protect against Oxidation, smear the fuse pole with grease or vasaline so that no air or moisture can get to it. Just a tip from me, Marten, 13EC39, 13RCT12, 13LR029
Oh no worries and thanks for the tip, but it does have 2 fusses in line i just didnt show them in the video, although previous video i did on the battery does show them . Cheers
IT is called summer time September onwards 11m 12m band 10m band will get better for DX 73
yep im sure it will pick up again and lets hope for a later summer , because this one not been so good so far.
Hi AL, Would you come back on PMR 13 again? As I believe last time you spoke to one of the people who use pmr 13 in hinckley
Always scanning and listening on the PMR , but never much heard although i did have a great contact over to Warwick yesterday with a guy just on a walkie talkie so i was pretty happy with that.
Hi Al26tc Its Greg we made contact briefly this evening. Im watching your videos and i like your enthusiasm for the radio world. Enjoyed the tour around Coventry my old haunt haha. I was the chap you made contact with on Warwick canal using my handheld Quansheng radio. You was going to point your rig in my direction. We'll catch up again sometime. Nice one!!
Nice one cheers bud was great to get the contact on the pmr radio, i was just scanning around, so was great to hear you 👍🏻
@@Al.26TC101 If your interested send me your email address and I will attach a video of where the contact was made on Warwick canal. You can see my rig and our contact and checking out your videos!! .....No probs otherwise catch up again sometime. 446 are generally busy around here! Lots of local businesses use the pmr digital frequencies and use TxCTCS tones there no problem for me or my Quanshengs haha😉😉
😎👍
👍🍻 Hope your Ok Bob
@@Al.26TC101 Yeah, just fine, just back from Northern Ireland. Had then on standby across there just in case, but I was fine the whole week. Still a couple of your videos to watch, it is amazing how many videos can appear in a week! Hope you get work for Thursdays, as you do need to make money in summer for the slacker winter. I have had some of my best contacts when quiet, long distance on 2 watts. Just when the band is starting to become active. Yet to get New Zealand, but I am working on it. 😀
In the 1980's Cb was at its golden age the band was wall to wall filled with activity now its like a ghost town. May the internet has has something to do with it
Not here in the Midlands bud a load of lads on CH33 UK FM here down in Coventry and quite a few locals on sideband, always someone to talk to, yes its very different from the 80s, but I sort of like it a little bit quieter , still alot of fun, plus lots of Nets on. It's all good 👍🏻
@@Al.26TC101 I live in the north west UK on the odd occasion I have listen it seems dead. I might hear some DX but not much of it. Kind of surprised your rig say 10 meters on the front panel which is the 10 meter ham band ?
@@itsonlyme9938 Alot of the radios you can buy do cover 10 meters and I have said it before, they are not legal to use in the UK, but it seems a lot do not care anymore as long as you don't cause interference, in my opinion, you should be ok, but at the end of the day, it's up to you as an individual what you choose to use. I don't think i know anyone that uses old CB radios although i do use my ones from time to time
Being hard of hearing I have a job catching what people say in the same room. So, although fascinating, I guess not for me.😂😂😂
Maybe a pair of good headphones might help if you ever decide to get a radio, just a thought.
Hi mate just got a little hand held thunderpole tx getting back into it after over 40 years loving it so far cheers Andy 👍🏻
Cool hope you expand and get an ssb radio, The hobby ticks all my boxes and I find it great fun. Enjoy and good luck.

Always active to the fullest, friend AL! Not too much spread here if I spoke with Cris from Bora Bora. The tour of the earth was a laugh, my art teacher Martieaux was director of the school there, which shows that the world is small 73 AL and good DX to you!
It is small, but large at the same time lol. There is always something happening on the radio somwhere. Best 73.
The band has been quiet for weeks.....one station in Finland is the only one I've heard recently on T5
I'm constantly monitoring when I'm home, and it seems to pick up a bit and then drop off again, I'm sure it will fire up again, just need the sun go play ball. Cheers.
all bands are tough at the moment Al but good on you for trying mate
Cheers, always worth a shot, you never know what you might pick up.
Great video, enjoy solar cycle 25 which I'm sure will get better as we approach the autumn/fall. I know people have suggested that you go for a ham radio licence and I respect that will be your own choice. As for me, I got my my foundation licence as a result of Essex Ham's excellent free online training.
I might do at some point , but i feel now is not the time for me anyway, but never say never. Cheers
I haven’t been active lately so no idea how busy the bands have been. Good little vlog showing us your locality, although it would have been so much better with a pint in the frame haha. 🍻 Thanks Al
Agreed , but i wont even touch a drop if I'm driving LOL shame , but i was on a bit of a mission 11meters woke up a bit this evening .
Same here in kent, very quiet indeed on radio
Hoping it will pick up again and guessing it will. Cheers
@@Al.26TC101 i hope it does to, all we can do is keep trying, all the best and 73s to you and deb's 🎉
Nice try Al, no radio here at my end! Take care, 73 !
Cheers bud, oh no radio, everything ok with the shack and stuff?
@@Al.26TC101 yup, radios/ shack are good just its been dead for a while and been catching up with everything else!
Thank you for sharing Alan , at least you managed to go out to do some radio . I really like the intro music !.
Cheers, yeah been really busy as of recent, so was good to get out on our 2 days of summer lol.
20 mtrs and 17 mtrs. Active a bit at night. 29 JC 001 hope to meet you on air .
It comes and goes on 11m, but I enjoy the ground wave aswell, but yep quiet for the moment.
Hope your well mate from 26DR/TC160 bit warm mate and little quiet on the bands, would be great to see you at the Annual Eyeball up the Malvern hills on the 25th next month and a live stream would be great :) take care mate 😊
Hey, bud, yes it's very warm, I ended up finishing early today, great weather, but working in a sun trap garden isn't too much fun lol. Will try and get to Malvern, but can't promise I'm on the maybe list atm. Cheers
That pod at the pub would make an awesome shack. Good one as always. ✌️✌️
Well spotted , i think it would of been nice, but just wasn't hearing a lot at that location, cheers buddy.
alot of QSB for sure but summer throughs that up... strong Germany yesterday tea time.. and Spain /Italy today not burstin in but plenty there... 44 div at times this week too
Yep by the time I had got home T5 had picked up a lot, but it was short-lived, always another day 🙂
When you are in Swindon and if you have time, pop in to me and have a coffee fella :D
Cheers bud, if I have time I didn't know if to just take the week off and spend a couple of more days down that way, I will see closer to the time, the Wedding is on the 31st and travelling back on the Thursday.
@@Al.26TC101 No worries and no pressure buddy :D
I think that everyone is selling up now that covid has gone. Its very quiet every where. Hertfordshire is dead too.
Guess im lucky being in the Midlands and a few cities close by as always quite a few locals on, I think you may hear a few of the nets your way AMC one on tonight on 27645 USB 8pm and of course The TC net on Sat 27585 usb 7pm. Im sure if the skip picks up everyone will turn their radios on again.
@@Al.26TC101 I cant get any nets on my radio so I put on my pc and listen to them on wiki SDR
@@bill53uk I can get down to the, western sdr from Coventry, if conditions are OK,
It has been a bit quiet in scotland recently it starts to get busy between 10pm and 11pm the last couple of nights
It did get busy a little bit when i got home , but quickly faded off again. Cheers
Hi AL yeah your not the only one, I thought it was my ARIEL or something else started to panic a couple of days ago, then realised it's not just me, it's so flat I should more into some flats lol , anyway thanks for letting us see you out there and hope it all goes well down your daughter's and please drive carefully and see you soon Alan from LUTON 💯👍
There is bits and pieces out there and it was a nice day so all in all not to bad, but yep looking like we have been hit with some bad solar stuff. Cheers
Hello.....similar here in Kent ...while mobile from work about 6pm very quiet just a couple of back of the box Italian stations ... although there have been a few CMEs the last few days ....good video ....oh and I'm using SS9900 and sirio 4000 ....cheers from DF mobile.
Im sure it will be back in the next few days , in typical 101 fashion when i got home the band opened for about an hour, but then dropped off again. Good set up that for the mobile 🙂Cheers
Same up in Shropshire Al of work recovering from an op and nothing on the radio will you be coming to malvern for the meet up
Oh hope you recover quickly bud and its nothing to bad. As for the Malvern meet-up, I'm not sure yet, but I am down as a maybe. Stay well and look after yourself.
@Al.26TC101 cheers Al hope to see you soon
Nice vid. But careful the plod will probably do ya for parking on a double yellow lmao. But that is one thing im glad i dont have to worry about is the bloody MOT.
LOL well i was with the van the whole time and there wasnt any parking plaes where there normally is , just my luck i went to do things at the wrong time of the day with the Kids just coming out of a school up the road. Well spotted though. As for the MOT tha Van is worth it LOL and its another year of motoring. Cheers bud.

Lol, nice one bud and the old van, certainly needed a bit of TLC, but working well. Good luck with the new set up 😊
@@Al.26TC101 now I met up with a guy Steven that knows you was up on holiday in his camper van he regularly speaks to u on uk fm ch 33 what a small world AL
@Dez55166 😯 lol that's mad, there is a few Steve's on there though, so I'm not sure which one it would be. I'll try and find out.
@@Al.26TC101 was in a place 6 miles away from me called Lossiemouth
hey mate great video ones again,i just have to say that purple/blue color from your radio is hard to see on video tbh 73.s 19TC504
Thanks bud, yeah I'll see what colour works best, all about getting the light right, but I dont use expensive stuff to record on. Best 73
The locals here in Cemaes Bay call my Toyota the cb machine. Some call it the "angry porcupine"
Lol most people locally, look at the van with the antenna on and have no clue, the looks I get are quite amusing. Cheers bud.
Nice Update Video, AL. You were working fine from the HQ (on Video), logged 9+. Cheers. 14DD007
Took a bit of inspiration from you on this one with the old van. Cheers Max
Interesting and informative little video there Al .. looking forward to seeing more of your story , 73's
Thank you, I just think the old van needed a video of her own and she is very worth it. Might last me bit longer if I look after her. Cheers
I saw the music museum on TV about a week ago . Great video. ✌️✌️
Many thanks bud hope your doing well. 👍🏻
Brill little look into the life of top mobile shack 101, crazy miles but it sounds sweet enough. Thanks for the tour Al
Cheers bud, she has been in the wars a bit, but great little van and easy to work on and she deffo needed her own video.
Hi AL great to see the van back home, thanks for showing us the new set up now it's all finished, and the football was bloody amazing I had one to many as well , hope the skip picks up soon and see you soon on your perch. Take care of yourself and yours ALAN.🇬🇧💯👍
Cheers , bud yeah its great too have it back and be able to go places again, although ill be glued to a screen to watch the final, but don't think my nerves will cope. best 73
Glad old Bessie got another year of life buddy.. great video hope you are keeping well have a blessed day.
Hey bud , cheers and great to get it through and all fixed , hope your are well too. All the best.
Hi Al. Hope you’re keeping well. If I may ask you a question. The bands on your Stryker 995. What are the frequencies for each band and what band as the UK 40 fm been put on after it’s been hacked inside? Would it be possible to speak to you over phone if possible? Gonna sort Patreon now so please let me know. Thanks Warren
Yes my Stryker came pr-programmed was already in there . all I have to do is flick the radio to FM and Flick the switch to Band where it says Band / VFO and I'm in the UK40s. It is the 1st switch on the left , not the knobs, if you need a band read out you can find one here delboyonline.blogspot.com/p/cb-radio-frequency-list.html
Yes please AL that would be great if you don't mind, AERIAL up and Got myself a ATU 100 AUTOMATIC MATCHER , and it works well, not a lot of skip about very quiet down here. Hope to get a copy with you one day, you never know, take care of yourself and yours, Alan CT,48-70. 73s . 💯👍
Cheers bud, I never got round to it in the end, but something I will do for a future video. Yep 11m band has gone quiet, I'm sure it will pick up again and hoping for some short skip.😉
Alabamared256 here in USA... Don't care what anyone says but Sirio Antennas are the best. I've tried them other brands different ones but none perform quite like a Sirio..
Deffiantly, works really well, even better with hole drilled and directly connected to roof of the van.
At the moment general radio communications such as PMR & CB isn't busy , but in the future if anything happens with global affairs & the phone & internet goes down the PMR & CB will come back to life .
CB is fairly busy here with the lads on ch33, but PMR not so good at all. Cheers
Nice to hear hear Rod and Rich I didn’t know of the 10 year net 😣
Rod been getting out a bit again, but the 10 year thing was posted on a few FB pages. Was nice to get up to the Dassetts as well.
What a lovely view, 26 CT 4217 Dom Haverhill Suffolk
Cheers, its the best we have around here, not very hilly in the Midlands
