Hazelburn 15 Year Oloroso Cask (2023) Scotch Review
Got barrel 0933, close!!
Can't believe you got this before me. LOL
Just got a bottle and to me it tastes like OGD-114 proofed up obviously and no nutty notes and alot more of that flavor from ogd turned to 11! Best I could describe it from the fresh crack.
Enjoy your videos. Had the opportunity to get a bottle of MHCSR4 and after your review, decided to drop two bills and get it. Haven't tried yet, but looking forward to it. Also appreciate you and Nancy honestly approaching the slight over finishing.
We loved this pour. So complex, and we didn’t get nearly as strong herbal notes as you seemed to get. Thought this was exceptional
Never drank mine, sold it for 4800 dollars two years ago. I might get a pour one day.
I was wondering about the laser code for reference since it became a big deal on the Elijah C923. I am very happy with my A22 -C923 but don’t have a A23 for comparison. I am certainly a novice on rating bourbon.
I have a local store pick of this, lovin' it! It's a half ounce sip/pour on my way to bed. Bad thing is, I don't want to brush my teeth afterwards...
I can’t believe you didn’t enjoy this LB8 as much as I did. How dare you call yourself a professional reviewer. You just straight up made up the soapy note. That doesn’t exist in whiskeys. The worst part of this one is the proof. This one is way too high for me so I never bought it.
Wait your trying to pick apart his review but you've never tried it? 😂. That's bad faith critique. I don't enjoy the plethora of flavors and smells he throws out but hey he's at least drinking it.
Bourbon talk....a rare treat 🍹
Proof does not make a great bourbon. This is a myth perpetuated by the “cask strength,” “barrel proof” marketing phenomenon. Anything above ~115 proof grains to venture into the realm of diminishing returns in terms of the flavor profile, but marketeers will ride the over-proofing fad until people start catching on that they’re overpaying for proof alone, when the whiskey isn’t much better, if at all, and is sometimes worse. It’s a distillers dream though. Just like non-chill filtered, skipping the post-aging proofing means less expense, then they sell it to proof-chasing chowderheads at premium price, in true something-for-nothing fashion. Brilliant.
Great review. My wife and I really like this one. We’ve had a couple pours from it and get something different each time. I can see it may not be for everyone maybe because of the complexity. Cheers
Cam, are short barrels still 53 gallon barrels but concentrated enough to yield the low bottle count? Just wondering 😊🥃
Yep! Generally speaking they’d be 53 gallon barrels that have like 10-20 gallons left in them or so. The concentration of flavor and color gets crazy at that point! Not sure if it’s due to leaks or high evaporation etc but it’s some sort of sorcery lol
@@DrumsAndDrams That’s what I thought! And yes I’ve had a couple of short barrels and they’re usually packed with flavors lol 🥃🥃 Cheers Cam!
Excellent scotch curious options for Bourbon guys....
Can you tell how it compares and ranks to 12 and 13?
I just got the Little Book 7 this month! Maybe I'll get the 8 this time next year?!? LOL Great review, sounds like and interseting pour.
Just got 24a for $160 fl
I'm glad you started this. Your tasting is very professional. I'm surprised you don't have over 100k subs already.
Awesome review! Never been a huge fan of little book though.
What did yall pick out
I got three of the 24A last week @ MSRP, allocated so it took me three days, yessir.
Saw one at my local liquor store in michigan, $120
Great information Cam
Thanks! Continuing to experiment with these Shorts to see what people like to watch 🥃
Sounds and looks delicious!

Nice review! I really enjoy this sweet oak, citrus, spices, tobacco, candied salty peanut, creamy vanilla caramel! It’s a really nice rye bomb! It gets better as you sip it and after a few weeks opened. I also enjoy the chapter 7 quite a bit:) Cheers!
I’ve only had 3 pours of mine and I’m in love with it. Great review as always
For me, that herbal or vegetal note goes away on the second sip. The oak really starts coming thru as it opens up. It is a wild ride. I’m here for it.
I just cracked mine 4 hrs ago. First pour 30 minutes ago and I will say you nailed this! This is a tough one to describe, there's a hell of a lot going on with the nose and pallet, it is absolutely a gem.
I was a huge fan of this rye. The moment it hits your lips you know it’s special. You can take your time with this rye and every sip pick out something else. This and Russell’s 15 so far are my favorites of the year!
Ch 8 doesn’t care who you came with, it’s the one you remember.
I agree with the funky willet profile. But thats what I like about it, and it adds that caramel sweetness for balance. Different, but a good pour.
This is on my short list of bottles I’d like to snag. i’ve been frothing at the mouth to try this one.
Great show. Will say GTS 23 was disappointing compared to WLW, ER17, THH, and van 10 & 12. Not sure if Smokeye is better but it isnt far off. To me Stagg Jr. A23 & c23 were better then GTS 23. Just my two cents. The THH 23 this year was perhaps the best thing I have tasted on BTAC.
I was not much of a LB fan (never had ch 3) until chapters 7 & 8, I have enjoyed both of those
Chapter 3 is a Top 10 whiskey for me. Definitely seek it out
Not necessarily “worth” the price of admission, but I love this one! I am a massive fan of herbal rye especially when it’s well aged/blended. For me the sits somewhere in between a really good JDSBBS rye and a well aged and blended 95/5 like Redemption 10yr. Also a nerd for complexity fwiw. Cheers!
I'm sorry for you that the blender/distiller made a Soapy's Choice.
this is the complex nerdy comment i’m here for.
This is the exact type of whiskey that sounds like I will find intriguing. To paraphrase the movie “Swingers,” it’s not a PG whiskey. It’s a PG-13 whiskey that I’m not sure I like yet. Ironically, those are the whiskies that I drain the fastest. It might take half a bottle before I discover that I hate it. But that’s kind of cool in this little hobby of ours.
great review!
Thank you! Cheers 🥃
I agree with your finding on Book 8. I have this one. However just tried Heavens Door 10 year Rye. Not as good as TH BTAC, but good, especially for 50.00 price point
I haven’t had the HD 10 rye but now I’m curious! Cheers 🥃
Cheers, it is very aggressive.
Thanks for the sample man!!

So glad to hear how much you like the top line bottle! I like to know my likes and dislikes before watching videos so I’m not biased when I try them and I absolute loved this bottle. I’ve had this one for a little while and I like to share with other bourbon enthusiasts when they come over to get their reaction. I have a large collection of whiskey and this one ranks up there in the group I drink slow to taste every drop! Mine has a hint of cocoa but it was a store pick so may be slightly different? I Need a backup ASAP!
I avoid Lagavulin on principle, as they're one of those brands that still sticks with the deceptive practice of added coloring. But as a big Nick Offerman fan, the marketing works on me, so I've bought a bottle of each of the Offerman offerings. The previous one was my favorite, but this one isn't bad. It just tastes like regular Lagavulin 12, with no hint of rum at all.
She’s a spicy gal 🥵
Agree!
Judge, love your content but ya gotta do me a favor. Your barrel heads on your right are outta plumb. Pl3ase take a level and plumb them up. The seams should be straight up and down. I'm a land Surveyor and lines that are not plumb or level dive me crazy. Thx!
Pretty sure this wasn’t meant for this video lol
batch 15 has beat some GTS in blinds 24A is the first in awhile I think has the same potential
I bought 5 after your initial review about a month ago. Great stuff
I will not be buying this. It’s too spicey for my sensitive palate.
@@Mended_ get yourself a 10lb tongue-bell and do some tongue-ups for your sensitive wittle palate 😂
@@DrumsAndDrams rude! I can only drink things under 80 proof. I’m very delicate.
