Come with me to South Carolina to ride for a few days! I'm getting ready for a show with the horse I'm leasing, trying a horse for sale, and talking about my entire riding career - from when I started at age 6, through my junior years, and now as an amateur (all while trying to avoid the hurricane that was making it's way through the East coast!!)

Naturally my Homeopath who formulated TITANIUM DROPS for me, DID and I was cured from the dreadful symptoms within 3 days of taking the drops that he made for me. I am happy to put you in touch with him. Years later though, each of my 6 Titanium Tooth Implants loosened and fell out, because X-rays showed how the jaw bone moved away from them, leaving a gap. • @meganschall
      @meganschall 11 дней назад

      I have several other videos on my channel that talk about the recovery process, prep, advice I have etc., if you want to check any of those out here: www.youtube.com/@meganschall In a nutshell, here are some things that helped me: 1) The more she can be mentally prepared to tolerate discomfort for those first 7-14 days, the better. The first few days will be the worst just getting over that initial recovery period, but I really tried to prepare myself to get through the first two weeks - it all gets a lot easier from there! Reminding myself that it was normal and OK to be uncomfortable and that I could handle pretty much anything for a one-to-two-week period made a big difference in being able to get through the first few weeks. 2) Give your body as many nutrients as possible post surgery. It’s obviously a bit difficult given the limited ability to eat at first, but getting enough protein and overall calories is going to help a lot for the body’s ability to recover. I survived on several protein smoothies a day at first, but whatever sounds tolerable or appetizing, just go with it and eat as much as possible. 3) Lots of walking post-op to help with inflammation and lymphatic drainage (being mindful of energy of course, but a few easy/gentle walks per day can help a lot!) 4) Try not to worry too much in the beginning about all of the weird symptoms and sensations - it’s all totally normal and will dissipate with time (or if you are concerned, ask your surgeon/clinic - they are there to help!) The swelling and numbness will feel super weird and it’s easy to feel like it’s never going to go away, but it will. 5) Full recovery is a long process, and there are going to be ups and downs. Each phase brings new challenges, and it is going to be frustrating and mentally/emotionally tough at times. Don’t freak out if you’re not feeling “normal” at 3, 4, or even 6 months post-op. I was still noticing changes and improvements 9-12 months or even later, so you really do have to give it time and have a long haul mentality. 6) If at all possible, find a myofunctional therapist somewhere around the 4-6 month mark. They can help evaluate function and give exercises to improve mobility, speech etc. before any “bad” habits set in. 7) Give yourself grace and compassion, this is truly a journey! It’s hard to know what your own experience will be like until you go through it, but just remember all of the other challenges you’ve faced and overcome in your life - this will eventually just be a blip on the radar and a thing of the past. When you’re feeling especially uncomfortable or going through a difficult phase, remember that you will *not* always feel this way, it will change and it will get better. You can do this! I hope that helps, and if you have other questions, feel free to ask anytime! And best of luck to your daughter with her surgery and recovery, I hope all goes well!❤🙏

      My bite is doing pretty well at this point, and it's definitely more comfortable than before surgery! I do have a few small things I will be working on with my orthodontist using Invisalign, but even if I didn't do that, I would be happy with it and comfortable :) When I first went to my orthodontist, she did say we could improve my bite just with braces, but because I had more significant structural issues, surgery seemed like the better option to truly fix the problem and be a long-term solution!

    Megan, didn't your double jaw surgery treat your chronic fatigue and pains, by treating sleep apnea. I haven't watched all your videos, i believe my fatigue and pains are bcoz of sleep apnea, abd thats why i wanted to get a double jaw advancement, Also did you do palate expansion, hows your nasal breathing

    • @meganschall
      @meganschall Месяц назад

      I was never actually diagnosed with sleep apnea, so although I had a huge improvement in my airway after surgery (and I believe improvements in sleep as well), that hasn't impacted my fatigue levels. I have had a big reduction in head and neck tension/pain since the surgery. If you do have sleep apnea, then I think jaw advancement can potentially be a great solution and can definitely have a impact on fatigue...I'm sorry you're dealing with that right now and hope you find a solution that works for you! As for palate expansion, I did not have that done as part of my surgery. Nasal breathing for me is very easy and natural at this point, even at night (which was not the case prior to surgery), so that's another benefit!

    Did it fix your extreme fatigue and brain fog? isn't that really the reason you did this? I am exactly like how you described about your fatigue, can't find any answers except i have a small airway. But I'm not convinced this will be the answer. Scared to take the leap but really was hoping you'd say if it in fact helped you.

    • @meganschall
      @meganschall Месяц назад

      I'm so sorry you're also experiencing fatigue and unable to find answers - I know what a struggle that is and how frustrating it feels! The jaw surgery did not have a noticeable impact on my actual fatigue, and while I was hoping the end result might have an affect on my fatigue and other chronic health issues, I also was experiencing issues with my bite/teeth that I knew would only get worse with time, and my narrow airway that could cause sleep apnea as I got older, so I had other motivations for the surgery as well. And I do have far less head & neck pain/tension since the surgery, my bite is significantly more comfortable, and my airway nearly doubled in size, so I feel like these things will have an impact on my overall health in the long run. (Plus, my sleep has improved according to the data I track, so even if my fatigue is still present, that is going to work in my favor!) If you have a narrow airway that is actually causing some level of sleep apnea currently, that could certainly be causing fatigue...have you been able to do a sleep study or any kind of testing for sleep apnea?

Though I've already booked the upcoming surgery to remove those metal plates in 6 months time (so it's exactly same as you, after 1.5 years of the initial jaw surgery. They said up to 5years after the first jaw surgery, the process of removing the metal plates does not make that much difference from their experience, though it can be depending on the cases and their experiences) I was still in two mind.. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I’ve been considering jaw surgery myself and after watching the videos on Dr. Alfaro’s page I was very encouraged that the recovery wasn’t so bad. After watching your videos the recovery seems much more intense than I thought it would be with “minimally invasive” surgery. Tbh it doesn’t seem much different than regular jaw surgery. I am a full time mom so I can’t imagine going through this process while caring for a small child. I’m curious if you think your case was more complex or is this pretty standard recovery for everyone, and the videos they show on their page just really downplay the experience?

    • @meganschall
      @meganschall 2 месяца назад

      Thank you for watching, and I can definitely understand the concern recovering from jaw surgery while also being a full time mom to a small child! I do think each case is very individual - both in terms of the complexity of the overall procedure, and just how each person's body handles the recovery process... I would say my case was probably a bit more "intense" in that I had fairly large movement of my jaws and had more swelling because of that. I do think some people have farily easy recoveries and/or less discomfort than I did! But I'm not sure it's totally predictable either unfortunately. I will say this - if you feel that jaw surgery could be life changing for you in some way, and there's any way you can get enough help to make it through the first couple of weeks, it could really be worth considering even if it would be a challenge. (Even just doing a consult to see what the surgeon thinks of your particular case could make you feel better about the recovery process as well.) I wish you the best whatever you decide to do! :)

      Thank you so much! I do think it would make my life so much better. For me, the breathing challenges are what bothers me the most. I also really want to have better occlusion. I have a crossbite and it makes chewing and speaking a challenge as well. So considering the surgery is not something I’m taking lightly but do believe it to be worth it in the end. I hope you are happy that you went through with it. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

      I'm 4 weeks Post Jaw surgery. I only had lower Jaw surgery. It's no joke. You need support during your recovery especially during the first 6 weeks. I also was kind of deceived by other people's RUclips videos who made Jaw surgery seem like a breeze and a walk in the park. I feel like you need 2 to 3 months easy going after surgery.

    Hi! I just had hardware removal surgery yesterday.. And unfortunately my surgeon wasn't able to removal all of the hardware. :( I was really hoping that they will all get removed. I'm only 1 year and 2 months post op. Really makes me sad that they couldn't remove it all. My surgeon said that my bone already started to grow over my back screws, so he didn't want to remove those..Did your surgeon ever mention about your bones growing over the metal? You got them taken out 1.5 years post op but my bone already grew over my metal at just 1 year post op

    • @meganschall
      @meganschall 2 месяца назад

      Hi! I'm so sorry you weren't able to get all of the metal removed :( I was definitely worried that might be an issue for me as well, and my surgeon did mention that could be the case since it had been over a year from my original surgery, but I guess I was lucky that the bone hadn't grown over the plates and he was able to get everything out... When I was first thinking about the removal, I did read that it is preferable to have it done before the 1 year mark - I wish that had been more clear and/or patients were informed of that just in case they do need to have them removed! I certainly would have been more proactive about making the decision if I had realized it needed to be done within a certain timeline. I really hope you heal well, and it is still great that you got the majority of the metal removed! My guess would be that your body will be able to handle the small amount of metal that remains much more easily, and there are things you can do to support your immune system if needed or if you feel like it still could be an issue ❤

    • @meganschall
      @meganschall 2 месяца назад

      Yes, I felt I was experiencing negative symptoms due to the plates and opted to have them removed (I did actually have one plate that started showing through my gums, so that one had to be removed anyway, but I chose to have the rest removed as well). I have a few other videos about getting tested for metal sensitivity and the decision to get the plates removed if you're looking for more info!

    Can NAD help in nerve recovery after DJS? My lower lip is so numb that I bite chunks out of it when eating. Week 9 post op, the teeth and lower lip feel like they don't belong to me 😢

    • @meganschall
      @meganschall 2 месяца назад

      So interesting you asked this, because it is something I've been wondering myself and actually made a note to ask my dr about this - since starting the NAD, I do feel like I've gotten more feeling back in certain areas where I still had a little bit of numbness, and was wondering if maybe it was a benefit of the NAD (although it could just be that more time has passed too...) I'm not sure there's any real research or conclusive evidence on this?? But given NAD's effects on inflammation/cell growth/DNA repair etc., I think it certainly could be helpful! That said, you're still quite early in your recovery process and I'm sure you will continue to get a *lot* more sensation back with time. But I feel your pain and I'm sorry you're in that phase right now! I hope things continue to improve for you and it gets easier/more comfortable asap!

      Oh no, I'm so sorry you're feeling worse after your surgery! Removing the plates did not change my overall chronic fatigue situation, but it definitely did resolve the issues I was experiencing like facial pain, sinus inflammation, etc. that I was pretty sure were related to the metal... (I also had a metal plate removed from my wrist that was causing all sorts of pain and had immediate relief - so I'm pretty sure my body did not love the titanium!) I hope that helps, and that you are able to find some answers and get relief/recover!

    After the upper jaw plates were removed, did your nose widen? I'm almost a year post op yet my entire mouth feels very tight, my nose is constantly flaring and I feel a lot of pressure on my upper teeth/gums. I really think it's the plates near my nasal area that's causing all these, yet my doctor refuses to remove the plates saying it will widen my nose and there's a lot of risks!

    • @meganschall
      @meganschall 3 месяца назад

      I did not notice any nose widening, although that was one of the potential side effects mentioned when I asked about removing the plates. I'm sorry you've been having those issues and that your surgeon is reluctant to remove them for you! Obviously there is always some risk involved in surgeries, and I was fortunate that my surgeon was confident he could remove the plates and minimize any potential side effects...maybe it would be worth consulting with other surgeons for a second opinion??
