I'm an old Vet. My kids turned me onto GATE and Iron-Blooded Orphans, among others. Very different types of Anime, both awesome. There's notable factors in both which are realistic, as such pertains to the impact of loss and the plethora of considerations regarding negotiations and logistics. I'm from the Star Blazers era, I'm neither a Mech nor a Loli fan, and Isekai isn't really my thing. IBO and GATE are exceptions, mostly because such is not the focal point, simply elements. With GATE... she's a 900 years old badazz! And, as stated, there are viable reasons the MC is seemingly OP. GATE incorporates a lot of recognizable Pop Culture which is synonymous with the Military. For me, that stuff is very relatable. I could criticize many aspects of the work, however, it's an anime, it's supposed to be a bit light hearted and entertaining, not mentally scaring. From a Military Perspective and a Government Employee perspective, they did very good, while not making things too drawn out and convoluted. The worst thing about GATE... there's no follow up. Given what's been put out over the past decade, this most certainly deserves a couple more seasons. Who knows, maybe they'll pull a Log Horizon!? I like GATE as much as Genocidal Organ, but for very, very different reasons! --- Indus Valley Drop. Also, if you haven't had the pleasure of listening to Wanger while on an Op, you're missing out.. Valiant Blitz 89/90. Capt. had that blasting on the 1MC as Cobras passed over and Landing Craft passed by. Theme music IRL is rather motivating! Regarding GATE as recruitment material. Have you seen the delusional BS they've been putting out for recruitment in recent years? There's less fantasy in GATE!

For a long time, the name put me off and didn't read it. Holy moly, it is great. It's the greatest isekai ever. Also, Tanya is not evil. It's full scale war. Much worse things happened in WWI and WWII which we never heard of.

I love it's attention to detail. The Scandinavian mages fly on ski's, the French on machine horses and the Britts on brooms. Finally the Germans fly with a single boot which shows how agile the German planes were in the war. Also the Dakia shooting-gallery(I mean war) was also spot on as Romania did try to invade during WWI and did so with only ground troops and not scrambled communication. They were quickly defeated and annexed.

Might have been the best show ever if they removed some shounen elements (Stark mostly). Ruined a lot of the melancholic vibe for me which I absolutely loved. Still one of the greats for sure, though.

I feel like you did a good job talking about the show. As a military nerd I was surprised how accurate the uniforms were, and the differences between the ww1 uniforms and the ww2 machinery. Hopefully the next season will be releasing in the first half of 2025 as planned, but the studio that announced that in 2021 has gone radio silent on its production so far.

I respect your opinion that the M4 Sherman was the best tank of the war, yet I personally think that it can't be said about any tank. For example... The *M4* series, while both a very producable and effective fighting vehicle proved to be not as powerful on longer distance fights, despite dominating urban and tightly spaced warfare, unlike the *Panther*, and despite it being fixed with the Firefly and later variants partially, it'd still lack behind the german tanks like the previously mentioned *Panther* or *Tiger* *Panther* was an excelent fighting force in almost every aspect. It beat the M4 in many ways, in the likes of frontal armor, an overal better gun than most of the M4 variants and sometimes even in speed and mobility, being a marvel of German engineering and one of the actual super projects of the Wermacht which actually worked, being the first tank which could, if you squinted your eyes real hard, be considered a "modern" battle tank, *Tiger* (Tiger I variant) could be called "the greatest tank" of the war by many, but it obviously was not. It had an outstanding gun, utilizing the knowledge German engineers gained with the Flak 88 to its fullest extent, having great range and armor penetration. Its armor also proved to be quite a problem, being almost impenetrable if angled well at a distance, as the Tiger was meant for long range engagements. *T-34*, ah yes. The Soviet "reliable" tank, which was in reality extremly unreliable and... well, let's put it lightly... not the best fighting vehicle. It was dubbed the best by a lot of people because those people only saw it's T-34/85 and T-34/75 variant with the better gun. Spoilers: The T-34 did not do well against German panzers, which were most of the time superior to said tanks, however, the T-34 was amongst some of the most produced and cheapest tanks during WW2, gaining a significant boost to its ranking. *Tiger II* and *IS-2* respectively are the kings of heavy tanks, being impenetrable forts on tracks, capable of raining down hell on any target they saw with their 88mm and 122mm cannon respectively, easilly destroying anything while being understroyable. Unlike the IS-2 tho, the Tiger II failed its role because of the late war German logistical problems and inability to maintain a concistent production or supply line. *IS-1*, *Churchill* and even many other tanks I did not include, just to shorten the comment. However, in short, there's no single best tank of the war, as every side's vehicle had its downsides and upsides. However, in my opinion and almost no bias, I think that if all tanks were used by nations with perfect logistics and the exact same ability to produce and maintain a stable panzer force (Unrealistic and impossible, but that isnt important right now), the Tiger II would dominate the battlefields. The only reason it didn't turn the tide of war was because the war was already lost by 1939 for Hitler and the outcome was unchangable for anyone sane.

Tanya the Evil is trash, I won’t die on this hill because it’s true. Gate, is a military “what if” exercise that every single bored group of soldiers will do. Also, complaining that there isn’t cleaning in the show is a bad take. while we deployed, we did laundry, cleaned our weapons and tossed trash out of the trucks. That was about all the cleaning we did because there are far bigger things to do during deployment, cleaning is typically done in garrison because there is nothing better to do and to keep troops busy. Gate honestly has only a couple issues from a military stand point and your opinion of what makes a good isekai is very boring and unenjoyable.

I think Gate should have gone on they ended it too soo the bad prince you love to hate got away and so did the girl controlling him. The main character is not overpowered he is just an ordanary guy, no over the top super power given to him by a god or somthing, so I think when he wins is great.

You should give the LN a go. Unlike the anime, which has far more action and commentary, the LN dives into more of Tanya's internal thoughts and there's more political and strategy descriptions involved.

I never liked Bakugo from the start. He was just a real pain from the get-go. His God complex, frequent temper tantrums, and constant belittling and insulting of others made him headache-inducing to deal with. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting for him to grow as a character and become more likable, but aside from brief little moments, that never happened. He just really dragged down the show for me. He made little bits of progress with his behavior as the series went on, but it wasn't fast enough progress for me to start liking him or getting behind him. Why should I give him praise just because he's only slightly less of a jerk than he was at the beginning? Don't even get me started on all the character shilling he gets in the show or how he almost never gets called out for his actions or faces consequences for anything. They try to make him out to be a real hero, but he isn't one at all. He's just a narcissistic, arrogant, rude, bratty, selfish, hypocritical, uncaring bully. He isn't a good person at all. That's just a fact. And I might have been able to respect that if he weren't one of the main characters, if he weren't meant to be seen as one of the heroes, and if the audience wasn't expected to sympathize with him to some extent. Mineta sucks too, but at least he usually gets put in his place. I don't necessarily hate EVERYTHING about Bakugo. I liked him in the Festival Arc, and every so often I can appreciate where he's coming from with certain points he makes. For the most part, though, he REALLY grates on my nerves, and the validation he receives both in and out of universe just adds insult to injury.
