Hey 130 miles for a 1970’s electric vehicle…I’d consider that a win.

Just wanted to say: I built an over-volted 500w scooter with a 36V battery, thanks to a controller from Hot Scooter Parts. The motor was a conventional brushed type, so there were no worries about what I did. The result: 1000w of thrust, and a 31-mph top speed. How many can say their drink cooler can do that?😁

Systems are designed for specific ranges of voltage and current. Don't exceed these limitations unless you don't care about the results. After all, you can (usually) only die once.

You should really use electrical theory to help guide you through your experimentation and refurbishment of these rare vehicles. I believe that many of the things that you have said should not be done can be done in a proper, safe manner.

If there is good reason to rebuild or repair the broken contactor terminal, I am certain it can be done. If I was in your area, I would happily help with that or other things.

2000 to 3000 miles was not uncommon for these cars. That's often when a person fried the batteries, often the second set. This example is in great shape considering many were parked outdoors and 40 years is a long time.

Why waste time on the old hardware, even with the stock motor, a new PWM motor controller will greatly improve control, performance, and efficiency.

Does halving the one battery mean 8of16v of power so less than a power wheels?

At a guess, you are reading the power meter to estimate 51 HP, assuming it is accurate. The factory was probably reading power to the motor times 80%. Brushed DC motors are 50 to 80% efficient and LA batts spent a lot of their amps heating up the batteries and wiring. It would be interesting to see wheel HP. In conversions it was a rough rule of thumb to say 16 HP was needed to push a car at 60 MPH. 1974 to '83 is when optomistic companies built a variety of small EVs... simply 30 years too early to be practical. Even the USPS got scammed into buying 231 EV vans. My own EV was a 1981 HMV Freeway.

I cant say anything new about this car, its all been said. Shame I missed the show this year, loved every version of this car, but now its been changed to its current guise, its beyond perfect.

I don't think it would be hard to install a strap to prevent the doors from opening too far. It might save a body panel. The overall look reminds me of a Renault such as the Le Car, but it doesn't seem to have any Renault parts. The wheels look familiar. Maybe they came from a Volkswagen Quantum? I also wonder if the front bumper cover came from another car. Anyway, neat car!
