    I enjoyed watching your new journey. If you don't already, you must view "Simple Living Alaska" on RUclips. They live in Zone 2 and are living with moose and other wild animals. You can learn a lot from them. Living in the forest is quite different. I would kill that snake if allowed. A bite from him might kill a small child. Also when there is one there are always 2. I grew up in rattlesnake country in Texas. Only God's protection kept me from being bitten many times. They will kill you and if not they can maim you for life. Also your trees may not grow back the same if they were grafted. And never plant a walnut tree close to your garden. Vegetables will not grow close to them. Blessings on you and your wife as you build your home. You are both quite skilled and young enough to accomplish a wonderful homestead. ☺

    How would you find out if a forest will be cut around the house?

    • @buildaway
      @buildaway Месяц назад

      You can, if you know how owns the land and if they remember to tell you. We know people who came home one day and the forest was gone because it was decided it was time. And there is nothing you can do about it, because it's just somebody else's property.

  • @mchlle94

    I personally love the old wood features, I don't really understand why you took those all out and stripped it of so much character (maybe I'm missing something?)

    • @buildaway
      @buildaway Месяц назад

      A lot of the "wood" features in the kitchen were fake and made out of some sort of vinyl. All the cabinets were broken and ceiling had to go, because it was only about 2 meters high and we were going to live there and not use it as a summerhouse. So we needed some more space.

      Bedankt! Vinden wij ook. Het gaas was inderdaad niet heel goedkoop, maar als we daar bovenop ook nog hout hadden moeten kopen was het echt te gek geworden. Ook vinden we dit veel mooier dan hele strakke en rechte balken en palen..

    Wow, a white moose! I am Swedish and I have never seen one. Congratulations, it must mean good luck! 🙂By the way, I suspect that it is not only deer that eat your trees but also moose. Maybe you will have to put up a higher fence around the trees and also make the fenced circle wider. But that is just a thought, maybe your fencing is perfect :-).

    • @buildaway
      @buildaway Месяц назад

      We think the fence needs to get bigger in the future indeed. For now, the trees are very little again, since they are eaten..

  • @TheJimcrooks800
    @TheJimcrooks800 Месяц назад

    Great progress on the garden - the fencing is great but I expect that the rabbits will find their way through the lower mesh. If it can be afforded, a second mes of chicken wire would be a better barrier for the rabbits - it will be worth it because they are voracious eaters of gardens! I know you'll want to see how things go and I really hope the the garden pays off and you get an abundant harvest! Very good cross bracing at the corner posts of the garden fence too! You may also want to consider - longer term - hedge planting around the outside of the perimeter fence - fruit bearing hedging such as blackthorn. Well done on the progress so far.

    • @buildaway

    Smart, neither deer nor moose can jump over a two meter high fence. But birds, squirrels, etc. will also be attracted to your "set table" with lots of yum yum. Have fenced off a small area myself. There I also have a small mini-pond with water lilies in a large tub which has attracted wonderful little frogs that have become semi-tame (a little tip).

    • @buildaway
      @buildaway Месяц назад

      Yes. One problem solved and another emerges. But, we'll tackle that problem when we get there. We were thinking about a little pond somewhere, but it's also already quite wet in our area, and we don't want a lot of mosquitos. So we're still thinking about that one...

    Mhmmm… you don’t store firewood in your living room. If the wood gets warmed up all the little crawler will come out. Fire wood can be stored outside, just cover it with a metal sheets or use the barn as firewood storage. It’s a tiny house, it would be a real waste of room.

    • @buildaway

    Dear guys , your tree cages will fail because deer are tall with long necks . The cage must be 6 feet high and about 2 feet out from the tree and the wire should be rigid since they will just lean in and bend the wire down to eat the leaves 😢

    • @buildaway
      @buildaway 2 месяца назад
