Yeah it’s hard for me to tell if the show took place after the movie or kinda inbetween, I know it’s a separate canon but I think they make him a little more clueless so they can seamlessly explain what’s going on for the audience

The episode hits me a lot harder now, back then I was definitely more distracted by Bob Ross with a gun, but now I’m like “Riley doesn’t really have a lot of support and has a lot of potential and his parents are gone this is actually way more sad than I thought”

Yeah the show has a lot more of a dark ambient cool vibe than the movie which is more of a big alien party

I understand why you would feel that way, but I think there are episodes that talk about normalizing the word, so I would respectfully disagree that this contradicts the show being heartwarming

It’s not a feeling heartwarming moments don’t stand out to me cause I see that in real life all the time if I know where to look.

If I said “Underdiscussed” would that change the theme of the video for you? I’d genuinely like to know because I don’t think it’s surprising, but most clips and social media clips of the show wouldn’t display these aspects. Like the biggest thing to come out of the last 5 years is the pimp named slickback dance, do you think people who haven’t seen the show and just that would assume there’s a very deeply emotional side they’re missing?

Growing up I always thought they lived in Maryland, but I read some random blogs that think they live an hour or 2 south of Chicago, still wouldn’t make as much sense to fly over drive, but I guess it’s more interesting plot wise

I guess I would say it’s surprising because of its contemporary adult animations. Like South Park is very topical, family guy can be very provocative or have celebrity parodies, but I guess it surprises me how deep the boondocks is, like grandad’s speech, or Huey’s internal monologue, I’d say those make for much deeper moments than the other shows for me

Definitely, the 2 of them have an interesting friendship because Huey does constantly blow her off, but I think in the later seasons more plots involve jazmine like the lemonade stand episode, so that gives Huey a lot more opportunities to interact with her. A RUclipsr made a great video all about jazmine and it made me appreciate her character a lot more

Honestly I think it highlights an even more subtle reality outside of uncle ruckus, like the idea that minorities can be friends or integrate into society as long as they “act normal”

Sorry I don’t know if I unintentionally conveyed that as my attitude and thoughts towards the issue, I just think the episode has multiple layers of what it’s criticizing, but i agree with your point

That’s funny, I forgot that little tidbit, and most of my childhood was the Empire State being the tallest since I was born in 95, so that back and forth probably went a little over my head

That’s a good point. I like that approach to the bigotry, it feels subtle but real. I probably was more tripped up on this guy knowing all about the aliens and men in black, I don’t know if they even showed he was there on the first night

Maybe someday I’ll talk about the novels. I feel like I’d probably like to go through and just read them on my own sometime. Is it supposed to be read after?

I’ve played the gameboy advance one and really disliked it but tried to love it multiple times, i really want to go back and play it but I know it’s just going to make me sad and mad lol

@Colby2D I didn't even know they had the game boy advance one I was actually talking about the PlayStation 2 1 I didn't know that they actually had another one well you learn something new everyday probably just as terrible as a PlayStation 2 game

@ I’m sure the gba one is worse. Most comments actually talk about the gameboy color one, which makes sense as one of the prime consoles at the release of the first season in 97
