It’s interesting how Mucha lucha was WB’s/CN’s first cartoon made in flash, while Nickelodeon’s first cartoon made in flash was El Tigre The Adventures Of Manny Rivera. And speaking of that, the creator of el Tigre used to work in Mucha lucha before he went to Nickelodeon 😄

Yeah they definitely had that flash snappy style where some parts were just moving the digital puppets around in flash, and some parts are just drawing one new frame by hand for new poses and stuff, seeing these techniques happen at the same time can definitely give that swinging hinge feel, really interesting way to look at it

Probably depends on the severity of the damage caused by these signature moves. Buena Girl, some of the most literal of the students at the school for example, is notorious for her Bulldozer of Truth. Namely due to the fact it's one of the few that can level entire buildings. The Flea is a traditional "heel" character. He not only fights dirty, but his signature "move" reflects that using his own poor hygine as a weapon.

AFAIK, they just made that up in the spot as something grand to be thankful for
It's common to call out some saint when something really good or really bad happens in Mexico (which is what I feel they were going for), but television has... a rocky relationship with that kind of expressions
One of my favorite examples of this (even when virtually no one talks about it) is an episode of Ed, Edd and Eddy where, in the dub, Edd says something to the effect of "by the sweet potato maker holy mothers of Cuautla"
    13:29
Reference to the separation of fighters in Lucha Libre where you have rudos (literally translated as the rude ones) and técnicos (literally translated as the technical ones), the rudos fight to win and tend to stretch the rules as much as possible to do so, while técnicos fight for the honor of the sport and always follow the rules
Fun fact for each, the referee decides how much can rudos get away with, so they never touch him, even when ruled against, and the whole honor and rule following makes técnicos the crowd favorite by a landslide and really popular rudos tend to end up switching sides to gain in numbers
    20:45
That's a tradition of the masked fighters, at the beginning of their carrier they must choose of they want to be masked or not, and if yes, they must not do a public showing without it except if they lose it on a challenge (which is, indeed, disgraceful)... the burial thing is a bit extra, but deserved for the one an only El Santo
    42:22
I think that's just two japanese things together, Sumo and having technology more advanced than everyone else, as I myself can't think of anyone that could be being referenced here
But Double Ninja Ninja is 100% inspired by Octagon, I have no proof but neither do I have doubts
    45:49
Como on, aren't you gonna translate that name? 😂

  • @theonlydiego1

The second this show aired in Mexico, back when I was a kid, I saw many ads for it and how big the advertising was for them selling even pogs in bag of chips, yeh those were still a thing back then. They were in bag of popular chip brands, basically our way of getting kids to getting snacks and free toys. I always saw my time and made sure to do my homework before I can catch it on tv, sadly some days I couldn’t and so I missed some episodes (no reruns or cable on my end😔).
But yeh to this day I can’t stop remembering the opening to the various characters and how I just felt in love with the show itself and appreciated how it was really connected to my childhood and culture. It just spoke to me as someone who’s Mexican and enjoy me some silly cartoons and happen to have a bit of my childhood in them.

Mucha Lucha was the GOAT for me growing up! I'll always prefer the style of the first season over 2 and 3, and I'll still forever be salty that Rikochet was recasted once the 2nd season ended...though I do find the joke they made in 3's first episode very humorous all's considered.
I still have almost all my childhood stuff from it like the Mix-A-Lots and a Signature Move Megawatt as well as a throw blanket. I used to have the fishing pole, but idk what happened to it. Apparently it was also recalled at some point... This and Nacho Libre were the only times I saw the actual wrestling, but shows like El Tigre made me fall in love with the mask designs more than the actual wrestling. All these had me asking for a Lucha Libre mask growing up, and I did manage to get one! Also I always admired Rey Mysterio, but as much as I wanted figures of him, I never got any. Also also this show is what caused my dad to start called me El Rey lol!
