This anime is just all over the place. Shame it flopped badly in Japan... Fun fact, I was a script adaptor for a possible fandub on this project, but it sort of got silently cancelled...
I freaking love this series. Doubly so when I learned that the voice actor for Chop Chop Master Onion, Ryu Watabe, did the voice for both this anime and the English games. It's a shame that Sony wouldn't let Mr. Greenblat ave any creative control over this series. Luckily, he _did_ get to do what he wanted with the "sequel" series focused on PJ. So.
I haven't seen it either, sadly. I've heard that despite being minute-long shorts, though, it's pretty good. Parappa and PJ work for Master Onion in the Fruites Café. They're like animated versions of _RodneyFun Comics_ for a Japanese audience, though half of the shorts take place on PJ's dreams, I guess. It can be found online with English subtitles despite what the 'net might tell you. I should probably watch it…
Ah ha! I have seen it! In FACT, I’ve had music from it on my iTunes for more than a decade! That’ll learn ya! All that aside, the show was fun. But I heard someone involved, don’t remember who, wanted the show to be a little more mature. More teen oriented. I’m really curious how it would’ve been
That’s awesome! And yeah, the guy who wanted the show to be more mature was Rodney Greenblatt the character designer. I talk about the quote he gave on it being more mature as 8:45, just in case! Thanks for watching
I agree, I love the animal crossing movie but I feel similarly about it. I made a video on the animal crossing movie, but RUclips took it down, so I have it as a video I’ll upload if/when I ever make a Patreon or something lol. Thanks for watching!
It’s a really fun series, although the timing of the games definitely has a built in delay that doesn’t convey well on monitors and emulators, it takes a little getting used to but has so much charm
@@Colby2D I've always wondered would the button delay be a little less harsh if you played it on the original console but that still leaves with new age TV's being way better than the chunky TV I grew up with that's for sure. I played a crap ton of DDR growing up so I'm sure if I played that game now I could probably figure it out
Odd animes like this that are random like Cromartie were absurd and surreal but also had their fair share of heart
I think cromartie is coming back soon too!
@@Colby2D couldn't agree more
Shoutouts to the Net de Tennis ost usage
I forgot about this! This specific version is the Capcom Sports Club version but I love that rendition🙂

That’s really cool! I saw the video about how it was almost lost media and I remember watching parappa on RUclips probably close to 15 years ago!
@@Colby2D Honestly the anime itself doesn't have strong writing, but hey, it's good that it's still preserved.
The intro to the anime goes hard
I love the second opening a lot too, big Crystal Kay fan
@@Colby2D yessir
The anime introduced me to Nona reeves stuff!
17:27 those animators went freaking nuts for this scene.

It's nice to see someone talking about this
Thank you, it holds a special place to me and I love the music
Do be fair, you could be named Austin and live in Austin. Not quite the same but close.
Very true lol
I love this show. It's so wacky, I can never get enough of it. The first OP and ED are 2 of my favorite anime themes.
This is like the animal crossing anime that was also kinda mid and very close to being great.

I have a soft spot for this as I remember seeing it on a demo disc on my PS2

I have seen it but its unfortunate he rarely and i do mean rarely raps
Yeah I would’ve loved if it followed the structure of the games more, but the show is really charming still, not the best but very fun
