This is a comparison/review of a Real GTN 750, the RealSimGear and my own home made GTN 750 (both running the RXP in XP11). Note that I also used Air Manager with an Arduino for part of my project as you will see. All in all I'm really happy with my solution. Any questions, please ask!

Can I buy this from you?
This one is now part of my king air cockpit. I don’t think they are really robust enough for sale :)
I meant buy the realsimgear GTN 750 from you@@expataviator7107
This air manager panel looks so awesome! I really wish there was an alternative for MSFS!
Yeah I guess my big issue would be the AFL King Air pop outs that I'm using in XP11
@@expataviator7107 I am currently trying to build a king air cockpit. I plan on mostly running physical instruments, but I want to do the EHSI and the EADI with Air manager as I want to do the Collins tube style CRT like you have here.
@@jonmabec yeah at the time the AFL pop ours were better than air manager. But it did make it more complicated. It’s been somewhat abandoned in my basement. I ought to try and get it running again….but now on XP12 and dont want to pay the upgrade fee! 🤣
FS home pilot: "oh shit, theres a bus on the way, i better brake and go around" Real world pilot: "we'll just drive through that annoying bus". 5/5
Quite!
One notable issue with Nimbus is within its code, there’s a well documented issue during “final approach” and “touchdown.” Nimbus will cause some users to experience the sim crashing often followed by a “not enough memory” error message. Not sure the exact issue but within the X-plane message boards consensus seems to be something within the scenery just off airport property. I own both programs and while visually I prefer Nimbus, ImagineSim runs smoother without occasional scenery issues.

I know this video is over two years ago, but I do have a singular question. How do you know, how long to fly a upwind/downwind/basewind leg? As a Flightsim flyer no real world experience, I struggle so much with this. Do you count? Or just 'wing it'?
Well it really depends on the airplane and the wind. But a good rule of thumb is look out behind you and when the runway is about you 5 o clock that’s a good time to turn base. Real world, it’s just experience and it takes time to master
@@expataviator7107 solid advice, I will keep the 5 o clock in mind. Thanks!
Hi, do you fly with a sidestick? And if so, what are your sensitivity settings in sim? My joystick is really sensitive when flying cessna and I would really like to know is it normal or, if not, mayby try to change sensitivity, so it would fly better.
I fly with a Thrustmaster T16000 most of the time. I have not changed the sensitivity in the sim. Honestly neither that or a Honeycomb Alpha FEEL like a real airplane at all. Controls in a 152 are pretty light and sensitive IRL. But in the sim there’s no feedback or pressure from the airflow so its just not the same. I hate hand flying the sim it’s WAY harder than it is in reality.
❤ great. I am surprised that ‘one white-one red’ on approach would make it not possible to reach the runway without engines? I thought all approaches and circuit heights especially the glideslope 3 degrees was designed so that you could reach a runway dead-stick in an emergency? I must have been wrong. I have not seen it written anywhere, I just assumed it. Watching this video showed me how variable circuits can be even in the same aircraft. I suppose it depends on the place and the instructor. My instructor told me about a guy who used to land planes with a constant throttle setting right to above the runway threshold. It was not his method but he told me other methods were possible.
Depends on the airplane and technique but for some types that is the standard way to land. And yeah whether you can glide a 3 degree slope depends on the airplane type. And remember the lights may not always be set at 3 degrees!
@@expataviator7107 OK. After an hour playing around with clouds in MSFS I worked out what ‘scatter’ does in case you do not know. Coverage is say 5% of the sky but a high scatter of above 70 means small clouds are distributed evenly across the sky, but a low scatter means they are clumped together more (more blue sky appears), but still 5% of the sky is covered in clouds if that makes sense.
Do They still use Euroscope for atlanta
I was looking for an instruction video just like this... for me flying on VATSIM with the new A2A Comanche in ... MSFS2020! Even with the TDS 750Nxi. BTW In the UK AIP it says for East Midlands "An aircraft using a lane shall keep the centre-line on its left, unless otherwise instructed by ATC for separation purposes" which results in a very sharp turn from base to short final 27?
It’s an old video but glad it’s still useful. I don’t have the Comanche in 2020 yet
Nice work! How did you manage the FPS drop using that setup? Thanks in advance.
Was never really bad enough to be noticeable on my setup
Hello ExPat, I am very impressed by your level of functional items that are working on your sim. Some help if you could. I am programming (newbie) with Air Manager and setting up the "Black Square Analog King-air", however, I am struggling to get event id's and variables out of the Black Square KA, any ideas on how to determine the id's behind switches? Few hassles programming the MSFS versions, eg Left Pitot Heat, Right Pitot Heat etc, other than the basic events and variables, Thanks
Most of my experience is Xplane ... I know MSFS can be a pig to find the right ID's. Try posting in the Air Manager forum
I too have been debating the RealSimGear GTN 750, a screen with Air Manager, etc. I hope you can answer a few questions. What iPad you are using? How did you get the iPad working with the knob? Would you mind making a how to video on this setup? The Arduino connecting to the button and iPad blows my mind! This might be the best way as responsiveness is my biggest concern. Thanks for showing this.
I am using a an iPad Air, but you honestly could use a base model iPad. The iPad does not talk to the knob. the knob is wired to the arduino which is connected tot eh PC via USB. That talks to air manager. Look back at some of my previous videos. It’s fairly easy if you know some basic electronics
Helpful video.
Great video, but I am kinda struggling to listen to ATC in this video, is it going to be better when I am actually communicating with ATC on Vatsim cause I am kinda nervous because I don't want to make ATC have a hard time.
You’ll be able to control your volume mix so dont worry about it. Go ahead and give it a go! You wont regret it!

You could print this on most any PLA filament printer. Milne is a Sindoh DP200 but it’s honestly overkill. It’s just what I have
Just font think the janky iPad setup is any better than the realsim gear one. Also tested the touch responsiveness and its just as laggy (worse, sometimes becsuse of the remote screen latency) than your video shows the real sim gear one to be. You can see it in your video too.

Nice Video
Brilliant. As a student PPL who's recently gone solo this is the best example I have come across of a realistic circuit flown in a flight sim - be that MSFS of XP. No offence to anyone, but real world pilots fly completely differently to armchair simmers (not surprising really). I really appreciated watching this video which demonstrates the kind of practice I could do on a sim. Thanks!
not true most simmers that take it seriously fly close to real life as possible that said I know many ''real life pilots'' and none of them fly the exact same each one has their own techniques which makes them comfortable
@@everythinggaming7938 what a load of b0llocks. Your response absolutely proves my point. It is impossible for a "simmer" to fly realistically when they have never spent time experiencing and learning airmanship in three dimensions in the air. I do not mean somebody follows a taxi line, or goes through a start-up checklist. I mean fine detail skills such as speed of roll rate, diligence in maintaining level flight parameters, looking out the window 98% of the time in VFR conditions. Aspects that are of little significance in a sim, but very obviously matter in real flying.
@@Lionheart1157 I have 6378 hours of real life air time settle down mate, you are just blabbing, many simmers out there have extensive knowledge and many simmers have become real life pilots not just private pilot but professional and thanked using sims for their success in training and there is plenty of so called arm chair simmers that follow all procedures to the book especially those that use sky vector
@@everythinggaming7938 perhaps we are misunderstanding each other. I agree with what you are saying. yet ALSO many armchair simmers use a sim like a game, and do not do as you say. since the launch of MSFS that proportion has multiplied. both of us can be correct. i found your black and white dismissal of my comment uncalled for. the whole point of my comment was in support of exactly the people you refer to.
@@Lionheart1157 ah right I understand what you mean now, I only considered simmers people that take the simulator seriously those that just play it for fun I refer to as gamers not armchair simmers

Nice set up. Where did you get switch panels from , or you made them?
Thanks! And i made them
Keen on doing something similar, any details on how you built the switch panels?

I punched out holes in the laminated paper for the switches to fit through. I'll do a little video and post to my channel when I have time.

Did you have to manually turn the radios off before recording this startup or did you find a way to make the default state of the aircraft radios off?
