  • This is a comparison/review of a Real GTN 750, the RealSimGear and my own home made GTN 750 (both running the RXP in XP11).
Note that I also used Air Manager with an Arduino for part of my project as you will see.
All in all I'm really happy with my solution. Any questions, please ask!

For information, the GTN series has had an update. The new models end in xi. They have upgraded screens and processing so even more responsive.

Interesting. Been debating on getting the realsimgear 750, I use one in my irl flying but seeing that touch delay is a bit concerning. Glad I caught your review.

Yeah it’s a shame. But I hated bashing them. I will say that the build quality really was lovely and I’d have no reservations recommending other non touch products like their G1000 or 530

I too have been debating the RealSimGear GTN 750, a screen with Air Manager, etc. I hope you can answer a few questions. What iPad you are using? How did you get the iPad working with the knob? Would you mind making a how to video on this setup? The Arduino connecting to the button and iPad blows my mind! This might be the best way as responsiveness is my biggest concern. Thanks for showing this.

    • @expataviator7107

I am using a an iPad Air, but you honestly could use a base model iPad. The iPad does not talk to the knob. the knob is wired to the arduino which is connected tot eh PC via USB. That talks to air manager. Look back at some of my previous videos. It’s fairly easy if you know some basic electronics

Nice work on the home made GTN. Hoping you can answer a couple of questions for me:
    - What software do you use to get the GTN 750 on the iPad? Spacedesk or something else?
    - Do you have the link handy for the dual gang pot?
    Many thanks!

I found Duet was more reliable. But if you want to do more than one iPad spacedesk is ok. And google “ec11 dual encoder”

Just font think the janky iPad setup is any better than the realsim gear one. Also tested the touch responsiveness and its just as laggy (worse, sometimes becsuse of the remote screen latency) than your video shows the real sim gear one to be.
You can see it in your video too.

There's much more to the real Garmin than just a screen, two encoders and a couple of buttons. 90% of the flightsim peripherals are massively overpriced. For example GA single-engine throttle/mix/prop quadrants at around 1000 USD.
