Jiveworld Languages

Jiveworld brings you natural spoken language in the form of compelling stories from top radio producers. These are not the typical slow, monochrome set-pieces manufactured for study. Our stories have color and flow, are messy and glorious - just like real life.
Traditional language classes and apps focus on reading, writing and speaking. To the extent you're encouraged to listen, it's almost always to a carefully articulated, slow-spoken version of the language. The result is familiar to most of us: we step outside the classroom and try and use what we've learned with a native speaker and suddenly our ears don't work. Listening isn't just one of the so-called "four language skills": it's the foundational skill. If you ever want to free yourself from books and apps and classes and do your language learning in the wild - in real conversations, watching movies, listening to podcasts - you've got to get your ears up to the job. And that's what Jiveworld will do for you.

Thank you for your great video :) You say 'quisiera que vinieras...'; does 'vinieres' work too? what would be the difference, please
Que has like 7+ right? 😂
'Ico' is used in Colombia, 'illo' in Spain.
I intend to use Spanish professionally, but I really appreciate your commitment to teaching everyday / conversational Spanish in addition to what you’ll see in a textbook! That’s so valuable and helpful!
Gracias :)
¡Qué chévere!
I respect someone who wants to call themselves they/them. I just don’t believe in they/them. Don’t expect me to say it
You must be fun at parties!
They use goat cheese in french for these? That is what chèvre is...goat cheese.
Chévere is not the same word as chèvre :)!
smoke show.
Please, could you do a video on expressing suppositions. I hold a near native fluency in Spanish, but these little phrases still trip me up! I’ve never had an academic/formal class on them. In Mexico they say “No ha de haberle gustado” for she must not have liked it.
This is sooo eye opening! I hear so often these expressions and could not locate what it really means... Thank you.
For the last one, I asked a guy from Colombia one time, and he said "podíamos haberte ayudado" is also OK (i.e., the imperfect instead of conditional or preterite). He said all three options sounded acceptable to him. I don't know how widespread that is, I have only one datapoint.
Excellent. One topic I would love to see you all do a segment on is “how long ago was that? “Or to say “this was long ago” or “this happened a very long time ago”.
Gracias!
Como amaneciste No tengo dolor de cabeza
¿Simplemente no estamos hablando de la llorona?😄
Where I live, you have to touch the baby so it won’t get mal ojos.
Your content is so good. Me encanta.
This…can have sexual connotations, so be careful using it in reference to a person. It does NOT mean I miss you…
My family is from bogota we use tu and usted
Excelente!!!
Deber = must Debería = should
Danke 💜 thank you 💛 gracias 🧡 merci 💙 grazie 💚 спасибо ❤️ I wasn’t sure what shadowing was in language learning, now I know. I used that for learning Italian in the beginning. Have a great day 👋
What about "haber de"? I spent some time in Spain and I heard it from time to time. How does it compare to "tener que" and "deber"?
"haber" seems like there is something in there that needs to happen to you to do something that you must do.
Asombroso 🎉
I started learning Spanish about a year ago and I started out with "neutral" spanish but the last few months I started to enjoy Colombian Spanish (especially the Paisa accent) more and more :)
I travel in Colombia often. Paisa accent is wonderful, so are the llanero cowboys from the areas of the llanos orientales.
The problem with you you talk very quick so it is difficult to follow you.
I don’t think she talks too fast…She also uses effective pausing and wait time.
This video is amazing. ¡Qué video maravilloso! Gracias :) :).
¡Excelente! ¿Cómoatado tu día? 😁
Thank you so much. What's the best way to use Bellisimo? Is it more like "cute" (as in a child or kitten), or is it like beautiful (as in an adult)? Or something else altogether?
Here in Nicaragua, if you don't specifically say for what you have "ganas"., its assumed to be sexual 😮 So here you don't just say, Tengo ganas"!!! Unless you do! 😂
Te beso te abrazo te abrabeso. Love this
Hey guys! My name is Jonathas, I'm from Brazil I speak Portuguese, Spanish, English and Russian and I'm learning French and German I think mostly in Portuguese my native language since I live in Brazil, but when I watch something in Spanish, English and Russian I automatically think in these languages.
wow, very impressive! You might be interested to know we will be launching English for Portuguese speakers in Brazil very soon www.jiveworld.com/en/jiveworld-en-preview/
While podcasts seems like a great way to go about language learning, I’ve found that Immersive Translate is what’s works best for me. I use it to watch my shows and movies on Netflix every day, and this has been a great way for me to become immersed in my target language. I’ve been incorporating this plugin into my daily routine ever since I discovered it a few months ago, and it’s been working out great for me.
Love the content of this video and thought you were really great at explaining everything but you talked super fast and the subtitles were in small font size and in a color that I couldn't read very well and they disappeared too fast. Couldn’t keep up 😅
In Cali its more common to use 'vos'
As a native Spanish speaker there could have been more explanation
Shorts can only be one minute in length, but definitely check out our longer videos here on RUclips for more in depth lessons. Thanks for watching!
¡Qué útil! Muchas gracias. 😊
I tried to call but nobody picked up 😢
haha, fake number
"¿Qué onda?" Is very common in Argentina. The thing with Spanish is that it varies a lot depending on the country or region, even within the same country people can have different ways of speaking.
It depends. Sometimes por que turns into pol que, but it also can be poh que where the h is breathy depending on what part of the island the person is from. It all depends on if you’re from the campo, the ciudad or which town you’re in.
