PRS MT100 Channels 1 & 2
The PRS MT100 is a high gain monster of an amp, at an incredible price. While most people buy it for its third channel with all its brutal and aggressive glory, I was just as interested in the other two channels. The first channel is clean almost to a fault, no breakup available here. The second channel is based off the feel (not tone or circuit) of Mark's favorite Dumble and indeed does have beautiful bloom and touch sensitivity especially for the price.

Sinvertek MGAT-1 Golden Era
Просмотров 9887 месяцев назад
Mr. Wu has outdone himself again with the latest iteration of the MGAT-1 Hyper Preamp. The "Golden Era" is a new take with a heavy focus on vintage style Marshall tones (gone is the JVM style high gain, replaced with a Wu's modded ideal) and an additional focus on reactivity. Now the preamp pedal very closely matches the actual amps in how they react to a guitar's volume pedal, dynamic playing ...
The Palmer Solarist - The Fuzz I Always Wanted

For over a decade now I have been dreaming of a fuzz pedal that takes a great fuzz face and adds a switchable volume pot before it to give you instant clean up. I also have bought and sold many Sun Lion pedals from Analogman, as I love the circuit but always end up making room for other fuzzes. Palmer Custom FX has combined both of these ideas into one, and added all the bias, transistor and to...

The Analogman King of Tone is widely regarded as one of the best 'transparent' overdrives and perfect for when you love your core tone and just want a bit more gain. However, there are these wonderful little switches inside that let you change the gain structure of each side, so what if we set the high gain side to distortion and the low gain side to overdrive? Then crank the gain knobs... and ...
Sinvertek MGAT-1 First Play at Home

The Sinvertek MGAT-1 is being heralded as the new best Marshall in a pedal. In fact, it's not just the Marshall tone in a box, but a full-on pre-amp in a box. Not just any box mind you, but this thing is seriously small, smaller than most other single full-sized pedals I own. Now we've all seen the professional demos by the likes of Pete, but honestly, he could make any pedal sound amazing so w...

      That’s tough as the pedal is pretty interactive based on the guitar and amp you use it with. The pdf is a good place to start for typical Marshall sounds. From there it reacts a lot like a Marshall so some of the rules apply as well, such as a lack of base in a Plexi until the gain is past 2 o’clock or diming the mids will tighten it up. Don’t be afraid to to go extreme with the settings either, a lot of times when going to a cleaner tone I’ll have the bass almost all the way up.

    • @GuitarTonePro
      @GuitarTonePro Месяц назад

      @yo_soy_pmd Ok, played around with the pedal some more to find a good starting point. These settings are about what I use going into my Bloomfield Drive with all of its knobs set to noon. All pedal setting are expressed in o’clock values. Volume to unity (just below 9), Gain a hair below 3, presence 12, Treble 12:30, Middle 1, Base 2:30. Switches are: top end down, low end down, densitity up, golden era down, gain structure up, gain saturations middle and right. For me at least these settings work on all 3 channels with my Strat.

    Nice simple demonstration - thank you for taking the time to do it. You can hear the Two Rock doing its thing the whole time, which shows the relative transparency of the pedal circuit. Your video helped confirm me acquiring a CC-1, which now sits on a small board that will be used with a single Morgan JS12 combo and mainly humbuckers (SG), so it’s quite good in a range of situations. I find with all the Cornish stuff that it sounds best at gig levels - which I appreciate is what they’re intended for - and can be underwhelming at low vols. I have a Duplex on my wet/dry (TR and Matchless) board and they just add a great mid range that isn’t in any way honky, and sound better the louder you can get away with.

    • @GuitarTonePro
      @GuitarTonePro 2 месяца назад

      Cornish pedals definitely are more at home at gig volumes! Now you say that your CC-1 sits one a “small” board, but I find that hard to believe based on the size of that thing!

    • @onenotesolo256
      @onenotesolo256 2 месяца назад

      @@GuitarToneProI use the term loosely! Couple gain stages, couple of wet effects. To be fair, the size of the enclosure of Pete’s stuff - even the battery-free ones - means you can squeeze them up against other pedals and still hit the button on stage. With smaller pedals, I tend to leave a bit of a gap between them to avoid hitting more than one, so it’s not much more real estate - from side to side at least.

    • @GuitarTonePro
      @GuitarTonePro 3 месяца назад

      This one is more accurate to the vintage amps but doesn’t have a high gain JVM mode. The high gain mode is Mr Wu’s take on a modded JCM800 but supposedly the way the other modes react to the signal (for example the guitar volume knob) is supposed to be even closer to the actual amps. In practice, it’s generally brighter and more open sounding. I still have the original so I’ll try and do a comparison at some point, but some of the settings don’t come across well after RUclips compressed the video.

    Can it achieve decent tone at bedroom volume levels while others are sleeping?

    • @GuitarTonePro
      @GuitarTonePro 3 месяца назад

      Really depends on just how low you need it to be. I play at night when everyone is asleep and can crank 100 watt amps because I’m in a basement offset. But as far as a “bedroom” volume amp, the high gain channel is ok at low volumes, but the other two channels don’t do a great job IMO. Unless you play out (and quite loud at that) as well as bedroom levels, this isn’t the amp for you. It’s like old Boogies where the volume goes from can’t hear to too loud by blowing on the knob.

    Nice demo. This pedal is a favorite of mine. It really sounds great straight into clean power amp too. Doesn’t even need to be a tube power amp. Really a great full amp in a box pedal. I have the old MGAT-1 Hyper Preamp too. They both sound great into front of an amp on clean channel, but I think the Golden Era sounds a little better than the Hyper Preamp when going straight into solid state pedal power amp pushing my cab. Wu is really a Marshall enthusiast to create such a great sounding pedal. Pedal is quiet and has good sensitivity and response to pick attack and guitar volume rolloff.

    • @GuitarTonePro
      @GuitarTonePro 6 месяцев назад

      Couldn’t agree more, both MGATs have become some of my favorite overdrive pedals and pretty much just work however you run them. The original is still worth keeping for the higher gain sounds, but I agree the GE is just a bit more responsive to the guitar.

    • @GuitarTonePro
      @GuitarTonePro Год назад

      Depends on your point of view. Coming from a 100-watt CRS before I got the combo there was a noticeable difference, but coming from any other amp the difference is much less. I would say 80% of the difference comes down to the cab (2x12 vs 1x12 combo) with the rest being the speed of the 100-watt head and it's ability to put out low end at higher volumes. The head feels a lot more like the combo when it's switched into it's 50-watt mode. Money no object, I'd have a 100-watt CRS and 40-watt Bloomfield combo, but in the real world the 100-watt Bloomfield is sooo close to the CRS that I can't justify both.

I have had an unmodded one too and found some good tones in it. From what I remember turn the tone all the way down and the volume nearly all the way up. Increase tone until it starts to give you top end to match your clean and adjust gain from there. If you raise the gain past half or so you’ll need to probably drop some tone down again.

    I use these for B standard lol wtf

      Lol. 11’s generally feel comfortable in E standard, going heavier is fun. Just not on a vintage instrument as I don’t want to cut the nut.

      @@GuitarTonePro I used to use 12s in E a few years ago, but eventually started using lighter strings. Tbh, it doesn't matter that much to me since I usually play with distortion. It's mostly about feel for me.

      I agree. I mostly like heavier gauge for a snappier low E, but have gone back to 10s for the most part now as I went back to a floating bridge on the Strat and it’s just easier to stock a single gauge.

    Nice video and playing. It took me a couple sittings to get my head around this pedal. I took it to a session last week and the producer was very happy with the tone direct into a Universal Audio 57 tweed amp sim. I really like it thru my low power tubes amps at home.

      This is quickly becoming one of my top overdrive pedals. Very dynamic and the amount of gain and saturation you can dial in if you want is outstanding.

      Thanks! I was surprised how good the King of Tone sounds on Distortion + Overdrive, always had used it with lower gain settings in the past.

      Yeah, of course “high gain” is relative. Picked up a Sinvertek MGAT-1 recently and that has tons of gain.

      That’s a tough call. The Austin Pride has more variety in it with being able to switch each side between silicon or germanium and the easier to get to bias adjustment. The Myriad though has more range of usability within the fuzz range and tone as well as more output level. I think I’d lean towards the Austin Pride, as it does the cleanup on a Strat thing really well and the Myriad is a little closer to my Fuzz Factory 7. That said, this is the second Myriad I’ve owned, sold one before and eventually bought another one. Vemuram really nails the aesthetic and physical feel of their pedals, making them almost as nice to look at as to play.
