  • This is the last time I get to play my favorite amp of all time, the Bloomfield Drive. The morning after this recording it was gone, no longer to be played and enjoyed. But why....

    Hi
How are the differences between the 40/20 and the 100 watt head. Are they similar in tone and feel?
Really enjoyed the vid. Nice tones and playing

Depends on your point of view. Coming from a 100-watt CRS before I got the combo there was a noticeable difference, but coming from any other amp the difference is much less. I would say 80% of the difference comes down to the cab (2x12 vs 1x12 combo) with the rest being the speed of the 100-watt head and it's ability to put out low end at higher volumes. The head feels a lot more like the combo when it's switched into it's 50-watt mode. Money no object, I'd have a 100-watt CRS and 40-watt Bloomfield combo, but in the real world the 100-watt Bloomfield is sooo close to the CRS that I can't justify both.

@@GuitarTonePro appreciate you taking the time to reply. Im about to buy a used bloomfield head 40/20 with a 2x12 signature cab its a good deal. I heard the master volumes are really good on the two rocks. I just wondered at moderate volume if there is much sonic difference between the 6v6 and the larger 6L6 100 watt head or even the 50 watt 6L6 combo. Id hate to think the 6v6 model is inferior sound wise. I guess there's going to be more low end with the bigger transformer in the 6L6 models like you say but im unlikely to play really loud.
      Thank again top man

You’re welcome, and the 40 watt head with 2x12 cab in my opinion is the perfect combo for home use and in no ways inferior. And yes, their master volume’s are incredible. I have two young’s kids who will sometimes play games in my man cave right next to my amps while I’m playing, so I have them whisper quiet and they’re still satisfying to play that way. Of course when you do get a chance to turn them up they really start to sing.

Why did you get rid of the amp?

I got rid of the Bloomfield combo in favor of the 100 watt head. 😆 I was always running the combo through a 2x12 anyway so it’s just made sense.

Yeah, to each their own. What was it about the Bloomfield that turned you off?
