Those anchoring roots and Roots to the tree where the tree comes out of the ground might not hold the tree in the ground with the soil loose like that. I'd be very careful. Thank you. Hey Andy. I have a question about your sawmill. I finally bit the bullet and ordered one. Should have it by Friday and can't wait. Nice! You will enjoy it! I bought a 10 pack of the Norwood Saber Tooth blades. They are 10deg. From what I can tell 10 deg is good for all around hard wood and soft wood. A guy on Corinna center road (same road as Dexter Lumber)does my sharping. Forgot his first name but Clark’s saw sharpening. It was 9$ per blade. He does a good job. Sorry haven’t posted any videos lately, bun busy trying to get stuff done.

      @CentralMaineOutdoorsman no need to apologize. I've been trying to get dirt work done in between the rain so I get it. • @CentralMaineOutdoorsman
      @CentralMaineOutdoorsman 3 месяца назад

      Hey there! Glad you like the video! You’ve got a nice machine! Well it’s a pain to get the back hoe on the tractor unless you have it on nice level ground but you will get used to it as you use it. Basically as your getting the hoe connected to your machine you will need to hook up the hydraulic hoses and turn the rear remotes on and work the backhoe so that you can line it up and connect it to your tractor. Once it’s connected I like to run my machine around 2k rpm’s and you’re ready to work. If you don’t have a set of nice cleats I would make some or buy a set so your stabilizer arms have a nice footing. Enjoy!

      @@CentralMaineOutdoorsman OK, great, thanks for the reply. So the backhoe is on the machine. My issue is once I've got the tractor on, up to 2k RPM, do you just hop on the backhoe and get to work? Or do I need to lever anything else before doing that?

    You guys got so much more snow than we did (Clifton). The vinyl floor is a game changer. We only put it under the roost but would do the whole floor next time. It makes cleaning it out a breeze. We've had issues with nearly every predator, the biggest one...domestic dogs. But hawks too. We've got a large fenced area which is where the hawks got our birds, didn't have an issue with them when the chickens were free ranging. That may have been just luck though. I ended up running heavy red fishing line over the fenced area in a zig-zag. (500yds! haha) The theory being hawks can see it and won't fly into an area if they think they can't get out. Never had an issue with them after that.

    Andy I would advise you get a few black chickens to help with the hawk issues that we have around here. Black chickens mimic crows or ravens and hawks try to stay away from crows and ravens. We started with 24 chickens and 3 ducks a year and a half ago. We now have 5 hens because of the fox and hawk problems around here. And you said your not far from me so I imagine you'll have many of the same problems. Oh and another tip for ya, keep your coop as far from your house as possible. Chickens attract rats.

As of right now I measured 10 inches and we're suppose to get 12 more by morning with 25mph winds. Not good. Another thing I forgot to mention that I would recommend for your chicken coop, lay down vinyl flooring. Between the acidity of the chickenpoop, that many chickens, and stray or bedding, the floor will never dry out. It will save you alot of headaches.

      I hear ya! No by all means I’m down for any advice! I will lay vinyl, i know the wood floor would need some help. I see people free ranging their chickens around town and I always wonder how they do it without loss. I know my dogs will help a little bit but they won’t keep away everything.

    • @MrBrewner
      @MrBrewner 4 месяца назад

      @CentralMaineOutdoorsman yeah I have 2 dogs also and it doesn't phase the fox around here. Just remember that you have a right to protect your livestock anytime from anything except bald eagles and hawks. I know it sounds backwards, but don't insulate the coop. Chickens, when grown, don't need heat, but they do need ventilation. Their fume that they release will kill them. Also with that many chickens and ducks your going to have so many eggs that your not going to know what to do with them all. Give your dogs 1 raw egg a day mixed in their kibble. It's really good for them and keeps your stockpile down some. Feed your spent egg shells back to your chickens. They need calcium to produce eggs and that's a great source of it for them. Just grind them and give them back to them. They'll eat them as they need them. You may know most of this already but I'm just trying to pass on what we learned. Can't help with the goats. I know nothing about goats other than make sure you have a tall fence. Lol

    Why do you’ll freeze in the cold and cut wood, can’t it all be done in the summer ??? I hate bugs so I m guessing there is none in winter

      Haha, that’s a good question! Lack of bugs is a plus for sure, but the main reasons are the trees have a lower sap level and frozen ground and snowpack causes less damage to the forest floor when skidding logs out, also they don’t get full of mud and dirt causing rapid wear to the saw mill blades while sawing into lumber!

    If you are still looking for another cable or the stopper for the end, try Harold's Logging in Hampden. It is a real logging supply store.
