    You need to put the mill in a building with floor and 3 walls, open side facing winter sun...

      Ya, I’m hoping to do that during this summer! I am also planing on relocating the mill closer to my cabin at the same time.

    Love that cedar wood. Have quite a bit of it on my property. Nice saw mill you have, that’s on my wish list. Enjoyed the video.

      Thanks! Yes,the saw mill is a game changer! Nothing like Turing trees on your property into lumber! You won’t regret it and you already have the tractor to handle the logs!

    Yeah, I imagine the ground heaves here and there during the winter. That’s some nice cedar, Andy, totally worth all the effort! Tell Paul there’s a lot of crazy Italians watching too!

      Ya it sure does! Can’t wait to start building the porch but I need to wait till mud season is over! I have plenty of other things to do in the mean time. 😂 I will let Paul know!

    I've been milling logs since 1998, I started out with a Norwood Lumbermate Mark 3. Nice logs and those beams look good. Now you know why I don't use "feet" on my BSM, I put down cement blocks with a board on top of it and sit the mill right on the board. Then as the mill needs leveled, I can easily shim the mill level, using shims that are used to put in doors and windows. It was pretty smart of Norwood to start a new name (Frontier) for their lower priced sawmills by having some of their older proven designs made in china, although I do hate to buy things made in china. I see many of the older Norwood Lumbermate 2000 designs in your mill and the LM2000 was one of the best manual BSM ever made! SR

      At the time I couldn’t afford the Norwood mills but decided to take the chance with the frontier.I was not fond of being made in china but the price was right like most Chinese products. It has proven itself to get the job done( at least for a hobbyist) there is a few things I don’t care for but it is what it is. I do have cement blocks underneath and pressure treated 6”x6”that the legs are sitting on, you wouldn’t know because of sawdust and snow. I plan on moving it this summer and I will be sure to put it on a bed of compacted gravel. Good to hear the design is based on proven mills.

    that is one slick machine. Have you done any poplar boards?

    • @CentralMaineOutdoorsman
      @CentralMaineOutdoorsman  Год назад +1

      Thanks! I have sawed poplar boards in the past and will be sawing some soon! Poplar is definitely tough to saw as some boards depending on the log will twist and warp right as you saw it. Although I have also had many beautiful boards from poplar. Also boarded in my cabin with some poplar. Thanks for the comment!!

    I'm really impressed with the tractor/grapple combo. I know it's 'just' cedar but 4 at a time is pretty good. I'm not sure the 'bota' would do that. Do you have loaded tires?

    • @CentralMaineOutdoorsman
      @CentralMaineOutdoorsman  Год назад +1

      Me too! Yes the rear tires are loaded with beat juice. That grapple opens nice and wide to handle many/ large logs but also tractors lift capacity even with weight of grapple is impressive to me for the size!

    That’s awesome, I love the smell of cedar , what brand is your grapple ?

      @CentralMaineOutdoorsman  Год назад +1

      Ya it smells nice when sawing it for sure! It’s a Sundown gr40, I believe Igland makes it. It’s a very handy tool! Glad I didn’t get the wide root style grapple. Thanks for commenting!
