That's such a clever training technique. It's funny I never had dogs but I when I pulled the leash to stop them, I still realized it was primordial they don't get to their goal once I start pulling. I notoced most just start thinking it's a game.

Its the same with kids. If you let them ignore you until the third time you ask and then get angry, then they learn that they can push their luck until anger every time. Same thing in reverse is the kids training the adult that to get them to listen, you have to get angry. We realised that with our daughter and had to learn to communicate better

My uncle did this with his dog and 400 meters and out of sight was no problem. The dogs stays at his place. Then he whistle and the dog was running to him. Also with playing with a tennisbal. He trow the bal and the dog stays with him. After a little command the dog searched for the bal. And find it. Needs a lot of practice.

What do we do with a drunken sailor

Everyone always laughs because I’ll open the door and walk out to my car and leave the front door open and my dog will just be sat there watching me you have to ask her to come out to get in the car. Threshold training, emergency sit/stay and recall were my top 3 priorities when she was a pup. I also focus on check ins when we are out walking so she comes back or looks back for confirmation I’m there and she’s ok to carry on and I will not ‘release’ her from a sit or lay down and wait when a dog has walked by etc until she gives me eye contact. If she breaks that rule she comes back until she completes the whole process otherwise it becomes muddied and lax. I was taught to let them use operative thinking so I show with my eyes or body language what I want and I don’t repeat words etc I let her figure out what I need she’s a border collie after all she’s smart 😊 I think they enjoy this type of training it engages them and stimulates their brain.

Big deal the dog sat. I train my dog too and he does the same thing. It's the people who are the problem because they don't know how to train their dogs. Or they just don't make the time for it. If you train someone else's dog but not the rest of the family (the people) then all the training will eventually be undone from not being enforced consistently. All dogs are "good dogs"; it's the HUMANS that need training.

What a boring life. I'ld rather see my dog getting excited and having fun.
