    I use a slip lead on walks but always use a harness for trail running. If I slip on a rock I don’t want to be randomly yanking on his neck. Harnesses have a purpose. But I’ve also seen well behaved highly trained dogs that don’t pull with a harness. It’s a lot more work but it’s not impossible.

    With the collar I can't keep my dog's weight and every time he pulls it can be a big problem, I've tried with trainers the slip lead, prong collar or similar but my dog doesn't care about feeling pressure and keeps pulling without listening leaving serious damage to his neck, so we're working with the harness and I'm seeing small improvements

      teach heal (look up some RUclips videos for that) unpredictable walking so they have to pay more attention to you and check in (randomly turning around, etc. There’s this RUclipsr named Zack and he has some really good training videos) lastly, I have a husky and they don’t learn easily and their breed is prone to pulling, so I use a prong collar which distributes the force when they pull so it doesn’t hurt their throat and makes it uncomfortable so they pull a lot less. After using it for a while, he even pulls less when I don’t have it on

    I’m a professional dog trainer and I have trained over 700 hundred dogs in the last year without the use of an e-collar to do the exact same thing. Trainers who rely on e-collars are not really training the dog. They’re giving them an ultimatum. Listen and do what I say or I will zap you with the e-collar. ( fear based, not trust and respect ) Sorry but Anyone can do that. That does not make you a dog trainer!

    I use a harness for my dog and she doesnt seem to mind the feeling of being pulled. But i also heard that using a collar can affect their health (their spine) so what am i supossed to use? I dont feel good pulling on their neck like that. If its acually better for my dog of course i will do whats best for my dog but i wanna know if theres alternatives.

    • @Dogmum99
      @Dogmum99 4 дня назад

      Learn how to use a slip collar. When you know how to use it, teach your dog. It sits higher up directly behind the ear so not to damage the trachea . Must be used correctly. With harnesses you’re having to control the whole weight of the dog whereas if you use a collar, you’re controlling the head so much easier. Also no corrections can be given with a harness so you’re dog doesn’t know if they are doing anything wrong. Your dog should not be leading the walk, but walking to heel right by your side. It’s not your dog being pulled with the harness, it’s you

    I don’t think that any amount of training is reason to not have at least a long leash on a dog. Also I get that hurting or scaring can be a quick and effective way to making a pet do something… positive reinforcement, though taking some time and patience, will foster more trust and willingness. Everyone does things their own way. Videos pushing your views on e-collars without being educational in any way won’t make anyone change their mind.

      Especially when you insult people for being upset about things that are super reasonable. This video didn't make me consider looking into e-collars, it convinced me that this guy is an arrogant douche who thinks he's better than people around him.

    This works with cats, too. when I open the door, my cats sit and watch. When my husband opens the door, he has to chase them down and bring them back in. So this tells me that it is the human's fault when your animals don't behave.

  • @jordanjtbraun

    Where I am, the concern about off leash isn't because the dog may hurt a person. It is because the areas where leashes are required are sensitive natural areas where the presence of a dog off leash disturbs the wild life too much. They have studies measuring how long wildlife returns to an area after a person passes, a person and dog on leash passes and where a dog off leash passes. For the first two, it is like minutes before the deer and coyote and fox return to the area. It is in the hours for when you go through with your dog off leash. So that is the concern where I live in regards to dogs off leash.

  • @jordanjtbraun
    @jordanjtbraun 6 дней назад

    The law is "control of your dog". I have seen people have complete control of their dog and no leash is required. I have seen people who have no control of their dog even though they have a leash on. I am more concerned of an untrained dog than I am about whether they have a leash on or not.

      @Tommy-mk9bo yes, punishment of a dog is by definition abusive, you have power over dog that you, welll, abuse There is no need for punishment when you have control over your dog, and you do have control over your dog if you take care of it well

    I have a standard poodle that’s 16 months and his lunging and barking… Literally losing his mind around other dogs has become a real problem. He has been raised with another dog he loves his best friend next-door and they play every day but there’s some thing about being on the leash Where he reacts very differently. I just purchased a muzzle today and hoping that that will help. He’s already graduated from a collar that buzzes him which didn’t phase him in anyway to a very gentle “prong collar” and now we’ve graduated to a four prong collar, and it still doesn’t stop him. He literally drags me down the street.

    Harness are mandatory in some locations (for large dog mostly)

    • @NielsO-t3v
      @NielsO-t3v 6 дней назад

      Where? Are they legally required? That's some dumb lawmaking. You can go about this in a way though. Put the dog on a harness and get a slip lead. Put the slip over the dogs head. To the handle of the slip lead you attach a carabiner which you can attach to the harness on the dogs back. Now you can walk your dog on a short slip lead trough busy areas and when you want to give your dog some more space to sniff, you take the slip off its neck and now its just attached to the harness only.

    • @frankstarship6381
      @frankstarship6381 5 дней назад

      Very interesting. In the other hand, I don't mind using a harness since it is supposed to be better for their neck

    • @NielsO-t3v
      @NielsO-t3v 5 дней назад

      @@frankstarship6381 a harness is fine if your dog is great at loose leashe walking and not reactive. If your dog is a puller however or reactive a harness will only make them pull more. Look how police dogs are held back on a harness, the pulling from the back causes then to react more. They do it specifically for that.
