For anyone reading this: I know that dog training can be difficult sometimes, but you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and your dog (and your own sanity) will thank you for it! ❤️💕

    HI Ethan,
Can this be done without a prong collar? I live in Denmark - and prong collars are not allowed here.

Yes, it can. Just be mindful that it will take much longer. Wish you well on your training journey.

@@mathiast6207 yay, for no prong collar there! It can be done without a prong collar. Victoria Stillwell has numerous RUclips videos on how to do it. She had a show called It's me or the dog". If interested, can search RUclips via her name and the show name. Much love from US

How do you decide between prong and slip collars?

    • @realethansteinberg
      @realethansteinberg  3 месяца назад

Both prong and slip collars have their own purposes and the decision depends on your training goals and the dog in question. A prong collar offers more precise control with a broader range of pressure, which can be beneficial for dogs needing clearer communication to create obligation in training. Slip collars are generally useful for low to moderate levels of pressure, but they may not provide enough leverage in high-distraction environments. The right choice depends on your dog's sensitivity, training environment, and the desired behavior reliability.

Finally a video where someone is walking a pulling hunting dog instead of a robodog shepherd-ish one.
And there is the prong collar which is illigal to use in my country. The search will go on for my pulling English pointer.

Hhanks for this vlog, I'm gonna introduce a prong collar tomorrow for my 11 month Doberman, gotta do something, she will pull even with a halti, she is constantly on the hunt for squirrels and birds, she has to learn off lead ok, run around, on lead she just doesn't get the idea of calm walking 🤦🏻‍♂️

Do you have any specific suggestions for a prong collar, i.e. brand or type, there are so many. I have a one year old mini aussie

I recommend the 2.25mm Herm Sprenger, it is linked in the video description

What do I do if my dog still pulls even on a prong collar? She's a 3 year old f1b pomsky, mostly pomeranian so she's smaller about 20-21lbs.

You're using it wrong and you need to build more engagement so that you're more exciting than her environment. Also don't rely on treats. There will always be more high value items than treats.

What do you do if the dog keeps eating the couch?

My four year old Weimaraner never ate any non food item until she ate the leather off the arm of my couch last week.

Put the prong collar on while in the house and give your dog a correction when its chewing on things it shouldnt. Always remember that training doesnt stop when you get back home. Especially if there are behaviors in the home you don't like.

@@unbornG4 appreciate that, but the thing is, he doesn't do it when I'm home.
The problem is when I leave for work. I don't want to lock him in his cage for 10-12 hrs, but would come home to an inside out couch cushion. (It's a pit by the way)
Doesn't chew shoes or tables or anything like that, but once I leave the house that couch is in trouble.

Hate to see a human use “discomfort or pain” via collar it ONLY means that you have zero skills !
Please drop the ridiculous tone of voice you use to celebrate dog pain /discomfort that makes him turn back.
You could never be in a leash free dog park!
    Animal needs to respect you!

You should ALWAYS train your dog to walk on the left, so they don't zig-zag in front, behind 😉 and become a tripping hazard

Your criticism of positive training is not accurate. Positive training does exactly what you're doing here yet wo the prong collar. It's not only about here's a treat here's a treat. Positive training doesn't say here's a treat for pulling. You're being unprofessional and inaccurate with miscommunicating about positive training methods. Is that the only way you can get clients?

There’s nothing evil about a prong collar. It doesn’t hurt the dog.
