How was it missed if they found it on the biopsy they took that very day? The doctor gave you an opinion while waiting on the facts. That doesn't count as missing it since the results were pending.

The GI doctor said it was not stomach cancer but took 2 biopsies from the stomach to assure me he is covering all bases. He also took several biopsies from the colon. When I called for results, he didn't bother to check the stomach biopsies and only checked the colon. He said everything was benign. After the hospital stay my dad had a follow-up appointment with his primary. Upon hearing that that my dad's biopsies were benign, I scheduled a physical with my dad to prevent another hospital stay in the future. My dad went to that appointment by himself and that's where his primary told him he had stomach cancer. The GI doctor did apologize for not checking the stomach biopsies. He said my dad's stomach looked so great, he didn't think it was stomach cancer. I believed his sincerity so we stayed with him for a month-- but really he was inexperienced which in hindsight caused much more pain for my dad. And lastly, at the hospital they should have ordered a CT Scan. Both cancer and diverticulitis can be seen in a CT Scan. The GI Doctor "guessed". He didn't order the right tests and he wasn't waiting on the facts. If he had screening guidelines and knew about risk factors, my dad would have gotten a more accurate tentative diagnosis at the hospital. Or maybe they would have ordered everything STAT. We can't go back in time, but we can def change the future.

Went to two hospitals and many different clinics all negative even though I begged them for over 2 years I was awoken by intense pain called EMS went to hospital was told no problems, I said listen if I try to get up I will fall on my head, he grumbled a bit and said, there is one more test I can try and half an hour later I'm on my way for emergency surgery to repair large hole in my stomach, about a month later after having stomach removed I get a call that says Cancer Clinic you have to come in and talk, this is Canada who has the most disgustingly broken health care system ever yet the government brags about free health care system. In the past I would go and pay 2 thousand for a visit in the US until the Covid issues put a stop to that if you didn't get the jab and the bad luck seems to be all mine. Let me tell yah, this kind of a surprise is a real eye opener if you are all on your own without any support other than what you pay for that is far from realistic for the limited service you receive, half of your time is training those you are paying to help you. All I can tell you is damned if you do and damned if you don't, take it from there..

    H. Pylori (bad bacteria that takes over the lower stomach) is the main cause of most stomach cancer. my grandma died of stomach cancer. i had stomach pain for weeks, months even, been to several drs until one finally said “take this bacterial breath test for h. pylori” and boom! i had it. easy fix, 2 types of antibiotics at one time and it was gone! left untreated, im sure i would have gotten stomach cancer. be proactive for yourself or others, insisted on this very simple “breath” test for h. pylori. it can save a life.

I had HPylori in 2018 and they stopped treatment cause I didn’t tolerate it well (lots of serious side effects), saying that it was fine to have HPylori and I was young, etc, same old same old. 2020 I started having lots of tummy aches and they did a colonoscopy but didnt even think of my stomach. 2023 the pain got worse and I couldnt bare eating, it was a nightmare due to nausea and loss of appetite (i have always loved eating). They labeled this as an eating disorder and didn't even do blood tests. Then, the GI doctor called and said he was discharging me from the service because it was psychological. Fastforward to now, 2024, I have an amazing GP who is very frustrated with how they've handled everything and I have the HPylori test in two days. I am beyond scared… I guess I'm just venting here because I find it a safe space for this kind of thing… btw I’m 24, this started at age 17, so you can imagine that the “you’re a young woman with anxiety” comments were there.

Have watched around a hundred videos from/on people with cancer. It is disconcerting to hear so many describe how their symptoms were ignored/misdiagnosed by their doctors and after many continued complaints over time. I believe I am in that same boat now. Though my symptoms are vague, they are getting worse. Something is wrong. These videos are helpful on a variety of levels. People are their own best patient advocates.
