  • In this video, Dr. Dan focuses on potential side effects and their management of the chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and immunotherapies that are typically used in the treatment of metastatic gastroesophageal cancer. Dr. Dan discusses the recent phase III study called GASTFOX-PRODIGE51 comparing FOLFOX (2 drug regimen) with FLOT (3 drug regimen) and compares those outcomes from the V325 study comparing CF vs DCF and puts into context the potential benefits and added potential side effects from the additional third drug. Another topic discussed is differentiating symptoms from the cancer and side effects from the therapy, which can sometimes be similar such as nausea, vomiting and fatigue. Strategies that the oncologist uses to differentiate cancer-related symptoms vs side effects from the actual therapy are discussed. Common side effects discussed include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, neuropathy, diarrhea, hand-foot syndrome, pneumonitis, and low blood counts.

Excellent video. Over 3 years after my final FLOT (4 pre and 4 post surgery), numbness, tingling that began after the 6th dose is still present. Most serious in my feet and mild in the finger tips, this is permanent for me. However, I am NED and for that I am so grateful.
