    Great video !! I imagine that this will be really helpful for unlucky players with less-than-charitable DMs. It's also interesting to see how strong of a character one can make without relying on stats all that much. My two cents : Methinks that there was a tiny mistake in accounting for the Disciple of Life feature of the Cleric dip : cast at 1st level, each Goodberries would heal 4 HP rather than 3 (since the bonus healing is "2+lvl of the spell", thats 3+1 base =4), so each casting heals you for 40 HP rather than 30 (and more if you upcast it). Similarly, a 6th level Heal spell would heal 78 HP instead of 70. Not a world of difference, sure, but it does add up ! For that reason, Aura of Vitality could be a great pick as well on this build, since it doesn't rely on Wisdom, heals 12 (2d6+2+3) HP a pop each turn for 10 turns, AND uses a Bonus action, meaning you can use it in combat while Wild Shaped... But it does take your Concentration "just" to heal. Anyways, thank you very much for the video CMCC ! I look forward to the next one ! 😀

    I find that splashing in 1 level of hexblade and going elven accuracy vengeance sorlockadin is really strong. You can even take eldritch adept later and get the agonizing blast. This way, you can essentially play the sorlock (spam eldritch blast with agonizing blast with action and bonus action), and also do sorcadin things except you crit on 19-20 with 3d20 rolls on a single target x1 per short rest. If the boss flies away from you, provided you have that you have channel divinity and hexblade's curse you, you can murder it with EB spam

    The odds of landing the stun are a second order calculation, as a successful hit is the prerequisite. Those odds are significantly lower than you list, and also consuming a limited resource. Now, a successful stun is an amazing effect. So even a low chance of success will have your gambler type players salivating... ...and usually disappointed. And by level 13, many of the enemies will have immunities, advantage on saves, and legendary resists to overcome. The fact is that saving throws become less and less reliable as you level.

    Loved the vid. Glad someone finally points out that Rogue is the WORST class in the game. Only thing is I honestly dont think warlock should be that high up solely off the back of hexblade. Its amazing, and probably WAS the best single level dip pre-tasha (and still is for charisma melee builds like a hexadin or hexbard) but twilight cleric is better in so many ways. Proficiency in every armor + shields and martial weapons > Proficiency in just light and medium + shields and martial weapons sharable 300 ft of darkvision and advantage on initiative >>> hexblade's curse. level 1 cleric spell list > level 1 warlock spell list. Though warlock has the arguably better cantrips with booming blade, eldritch blast prestidigitation, etc. But guidance tends to be better for builds who dont rely on charisma and can make use of eldritch blast. Hexblade is def better for charisma builds like paladins, sorcerers, and bards due to allowing them to dump str and even dex (though not advised). But Twilight cleric is FAR better for any other build that'd dip hexblade. With that said I think warlock is worse than bard, but it shouldnt be moved down to B tier. Bard should be raised to top A and put above sorcerer and warlock.

    If you instead play a Kobold you get pack tactics which allows you to have advantage on all your eldritch blasts provided you’re in shade and you have an ally next to the enemy. Since many campaigns such as Icewind Dale, Strahd and Saltmarsh all take place in dark settings or supposing you’re in a dungeon this means you pretty much always have advantage so your chances of critting with hexblade’s curse go up astonishingly quickly. Custom lineage is good for most builds but it is not the most optimized for this one as a blaster caster in my opinion. That’s just my 2 cents though.

    Just hit level 20 three days ago with my Sorlock after more than two years in Dungeon of the Mad Mage. Air Genasi Genie Warlock 3/Clockwork Soul 17. Pact of the Chain Warlock. Witherbloom Student background from Strixhaven. I focused on maximizing spellcasting and mitigating damage through magic instead of armor proficiency. Ritual Caster (Wizard), Fey Touched, ASI and Cartomancer for ASI/Feats. Witherbloom Student Feat included in Background. I more than made up for lacking the Wizard's spell flexibility by having over 50 spells I could cast at any given moment (62 with magic items included), including Healing Word, Cure Wounds, Lesser/Greater Restoration and Revivify form the Witherbloom Spell List. Air Genasi Gives Shocking Grasp, Feather Fall and Levitate, which are all amazing, And being able to hold your breath indefinitely came in handier more often than you would think. Quickened Spell on Eldritch Blast at higher levels is _crazy._ Using the cantrip twice a round means 6 beams at level 11 and 8 at 17. That's 8d10+40, a disintegrate spell for 2 sorc points you can split between up to 8 targets, or 8 heavy Crossbow attacks per turn. And if you're using the Trance of Order ability, you can't roll less than a 21 on any of them. Taking the third level of Warlock was absolutely worth it in my opinion. First, it meant I got to use the Sorcerer Capstone ability for most of my Sorlock's career, but especially at earlier levels when you are starved for Sorcery Points. And I cannot overstate how incredibly useful the warlock familiar was. Using Sprite form in town, she could use Heart Sight and give us an advantage in social situations. In dungeons, the imp form was more durable. But a familiar with opposable thumbs, invisibility at will, a bunch of magical abilities, able to use magic items, and just as intelligent as most of the party members? She was the party MVP more times than I can remember. I lost the level 18 ability, but I would only have used it for a few months at the end, as opposed to using the imp and sorcerous restoration for literally years. Genie warlock not only gives additional spells but that Genie's Vessel space? you can fit a small two bedroom apartment in a 20 foot radius cylinder. Trunks full of stuff stored for the party. Long rest in the ring while your invisible imp keeps it safe, or have him fly you into the castle past the guards. Keep an alchemy lab and scriptorium on hand for whipping up potions and scrolls in the field. SO many uses. Ritual Caster got CONSTANT use. Detect magic, Comprehend Languages, Identify, Unseen Servant, Rary's Telepathic Bond, etc.

  • @RisingChaos
    @RisingChaos 13 дней назад

    I don't think Sorcs need Telekinetic, since they can fill out their BA economy better than other casters using Quickened metamagic anyway, and Repelling Blast also overlaps with one of the most common use cases (i.e. breaking grapples). I'd rather take +2 CHA, maxing your primary score faster plus saving the future ASI to pick up Lucky (or other favored feat). The rest I could comment on is just personal preference stuff I don't feel there's a right or wrong way to go about. I'm not a fan of War Caster strictly for concentration protection, for example, and would rather a different feat (failure rate is already low enough with CON save prof that Lucky insulates you from low rolls while adding upside) but I know I'm in the minority on that among optimizers. Lock 1 start is a solid option because it starts you with your armor and later it's better to take +1 CON with Resilient than +1 WIS, if you find a way to get 15 CON (different race, CHA/CON ASI, etc). And so on.

    • @cmccbuilds8229
      @cmccbuilds8229 13 дней назад

      All valid, although I'd add that war caster isn't just for con protection. This build uses a shield and possibly a weapon, and certainly a staff/wand. You'll want War Caster in most versions of this build.

    A stable of 5e. The sorlock was my very first build and nowadays, I like to play this in more chill campaigns where i pick up 2 levels in fathomless for tentacle of the deep for good damage and control then pick up booming blade to make use of hex warrior.

      @@cmccbuilds8229 I don't think repeling blast is worth a feat, so I take eldritch mind and get all the feats earlier (since I don't need warcaster), eventually taking lucky at level 16 if I ever get to that high level.

    • @cmccbuilds8229
      @cmccbuilds8229 13 дней назад

      @SuperSorcerer also war caster provides the hands clause, which may be needed on the build. But you have a viable option too if you don’t carry wands or a staff. Personally I think forced movement is very strong, so I’m not giving that up for anything less than something VERY strong.

  • @SpaceVentura69
    @SpaceVentura69 13 дней назад

    Feel like Telekinetic is not necessary, and the ASI +1/+1 to make up for it is awkward. As a Sorlock you've already got a lot going on with your BA and with Repelling Blast feels like the Telekinetic shove would be pretty unnecessary. My Hexclock, Warlock took Magic Stone instead of Minor Illusion, and with Clockwork take Tiny Servant, that's more resource free damage with BA. Took Pyrotechnics instead of Levitate from Clockwork list as well, with setup can then create it's own little cloud of concentration-free, non-dispellable obscurement that Tiny Servants will be throwing magic stones at advantage from, and it can be a defensive place to hide from spellcasters brutal sight-based spells. Also switched out Fog Cloud for Magic Missile which alongside Hexblades Curse can do some appreciable damage above that of Eldritch Blast spam if you're needing single target burn. At least until Level 16/17 where you'll have Trance of Order + Eblasts because it makes Eblast almost a guarenteed hit in most situations I took extended spell metamagic earlier, it gets a really nice unambiguous "rest-cast" package early on with Gift of Alacrity, and Aid, and upcast Tiny Servants using spell slots from the night before. It also allows for a similiar short rest castings of Longstrider if you kept your pact slots. You can actually afford to go with a Flying Race, or Dhampir for the +2/+1 and end up with: 8, 14, 14, 8, 13, 17 as a starting statline. Level 6 - Fey:Touched: Gift of Alacrity Level 10 - Res: Wis Level 14 - Warcaster Level 18 - +2 Charisma You end up with the same statline, progress on that front a little delayed, however you gain a flying speed, or a bunch of stuff from Dhampir alongside pseudo-flight with spiderclimb.

      I think Clockwork is better. The rune system is clunky in the early levels, due to a lack of Sorcery Points to spend, and Clockwork has the better spell list (Aid + Wall of Force). The minor features are whatever and the high-level features are not obviously superior in either direction, though I personally prefer Clockwork's. (Trance > Torrent, plus Cavalcade is super clutch and offers the option of using it more than 1/LR.) The only obvious win is Glyph of Aegis > Bastion of Law, because Bastion explicitly costs SP while Glyph runs off runes passively produced by spending SP as normal, but I don't feel that alone tips the scales in favor of Runechild. Runechild is also better at Level 1, since Glyph more or less gives them +1d6 HP per combat. Maybe worth it if you're trying to no-death a meat grinder, I guess.

      @@cmccbuilds8229 We should normalize having 18 in the primary stat I guess. Both your build and the one I outlined end up with very good secondary scores; 14 dex, 14/16 con and 14/12 wis and that’s worth a lot.

    Glad to hear the yacht is ok This build was one of my first characters, and its great to see your version. i personally went earth genie 3 levels for spike growth together with clockwork soul. in my campaing humans were banned so i took mountain dwarf and spike growth+repelling blast is so fun when you actually have 2nd level spell slots.

      Ranger is better because it is, well, good class for range characters. Aura of Protection is amazing, but ranged is just better than melee, even paladin strongest chassis can't fully compete with it. (but yeah, even though gunk is really good build - it is only build monk really good at. Overall fighter is much stronger)

      @@notsochosenone5669 yeah if range was that big of a deal there would be more all range teams. If you need mele who would you like to have the most? Don't get me wrong it is nice and useful and good for damage, and ranger itself provides some cool spells and utility. Paladin, as malee needs more setup, but can dish out comparable damage and utility and support it provides is completely out classing the ranger, at least for my money. Let me put it this way, I have played a lot of dnd over the years. On numerous occasions I went "Oh fuck yeah! We will have paladin on our team!" Same sentiment about Rangers? Not even once

      @@cmccbuilds8229 it does, and I'm absolutely fine with that. For me, Paladin is the best martial class in game and by a large margin as well. Just it having a significant impact in so many different aspects of the game puts it over others. As someone else said, is is telling from this video that you really underrated skills (mentioning this here because of the fact that paladins can competently carry party in social interactions/encounters, unlike the great majority of martials), which would make sense for someone focused on format like gauntlet.

  • @KaitlynBurnellMath
    @KaitlynBurnellMath 27 дней назад

    It's funny, I've come up with builds before that took both slasher and crusher, but that was a pretty specialized build. Surprised to see them both recommended here instead of just maxing out strength earlier. (The build where taking slasher+crusher made sense to me was a crit fishing champion build with a 1 level dip into Geenie Warlock so that you can apply the slasher and crusher crit debuff on the same crit). Another option if you plan to take both slasher and crusher is to use Custom Lineage and start with 17 STR 15 CON. (You can take +1 CON with Crusher). This boosts your offence earlier, at the expense of having less HP at low levels, but ends up in the same place in the long run. I don't know if it's better or worse, but it's an interesting option.

    • @cmccbuilds8229

      I tend to think that 2 half feats is often better than 1 ASI and a full feat. I also feel these feats have more value when there is less magic for CC and forced movement

    • @KaitlynBurnellMath
      @KaitlynBurnellMath 27 дней назад

      @@cmccbuilds8229 Hmm...interesting. I do have some followup questions. If slasher+crusher are that good, why not take them earlier? Why not move those before the STR+2 ASI? Also, I haven't tried using the bonus action from PAM as the only way to activate crusher--if you've tried that or DMed that build, how often did the build activate crusher during actual gameplay? (Just curious cause you're presumably still working with relatively low accuracy thanks to GWM).

    • @cmccbuilds8229
      @cmccbuilds8229 27 дней назад

      @KaitlynBurnellMath any time GWM isn’t proc’d, you get the PAM BA option and can use crusher. Even if GWM BA is proc’d you choose between damage or movement. Which is more valuable in that specific situation. Pretty much every turn it can be used if you want. You can switch ASI with half feats, but look at the levels they’re taken. 8->12 if switched. 10->12 my way. Do you really want to sit on a 17 str for levels 8 to 12?

    • @tristinanderson6320
      @tristinanderson6320 27 дней назад

      @KaitlynBurnellMath I'm assuming you'd have GWM off unless you knocked them prone or are using precision attack to give you advantage, and the bonus action attack would still have the same accuracy as your main attacks and 18str would carry you pretty far into the campaign. Your just adding crusher for more displacement and not having to use an asi when half feats have more overall value.

      Samurai is definitely better on a ranged character, usually just using gunner instead of CBE. Fighting spirit definitely conflicts with CBE and PAM bonus actions, and ranged is more accurate due to archery so you can hit sharpshooter attacks more often than you would GWM attacks
