@@cmccbuilds8229 It's a malapropism. You reference a popular character incorrectly. Saying the main character of Halo is "John Halo" usually followed by a really dumb non existent quote. "Every soul has its dark - John Dark Soul". I have no idea why this makes me laugh.
You call this the most boring character build, but this is the PERFECT character for someone playing for the first time! No worrying about spell slots, points to do special maneuvers or modifying spells or extra dice! Champion just makes a fighter more “Fighterire” if there is such a thing. If I was making a character for someone who is playing for the first time, this is IT! Great Starter Character!
I've seen this recommendation before and I think it's doing new players a disservice. Better at least to play a Battle Master, which can do the same "normal attack" every turn if it wants, almost as effectively, but also has more options if and when you're ready for them.
@bestwarrioreu nah, dude, it's about expectations. Champion is the closest subclass to base fighter. When the player asks if there is anything more they can do on their turn in combat, then you know they are ready to move up to something more complicated. If that moment is within the first session, then just make different choices.
Best subclass/class combination to get new player out of the hobby. DMs, please, at least ask your player about what they want to play instead of shoehorning champion and watching them becoming more and more bored. If my first character was a champion i would probably leave to play something esle.
I love the framing, Mike. It's not the best starting character for newcomers, it's the boring build. Good job. Straight Champion with its increased critical range and two fighting styles is a lot more powerful then it is given credit for.
Hey Mike. How ya doing? Also, partially see Rogue as a better class for 'base' cuz they get 1 attack and that's it. Especially since there's Steady Aim. Bonus - Steady Aim Action - attack with sneak attack. Done. Subclass? Thief. The fighter has action surges, multiple attacks, rerolls on saves. That's too much. Evasion and Uncanny Dodge are much more 'basic' than indomitable, second wind, and action surge which are resources you need to keep track of. Rogue Thief doesn't have anything to track. Get hit? Uncanny dodge. Dex Save? Evasion. Sure, fast hands gives you more interesting things to do than champions crit range, but Steady Aim takes care of you evee actually using it.
This build truly is perfect for a newcomer, I think it's the best you can meke if you want someone to focus on RP and ease in into the RPG world, aswsome job! But man, the simplicity hurts my old ass gamer soul
Have you ever though about a build with Corvo from dishonored as the concept? I can’t figure out how I’d go about that. I imagine there would have to be some reflavoring of abilities
I made a Swarmkeeper Corvo build, then figured out that blade pact GOOLock is essentially perfect in terms of both flavor and gameplay Some abilities from the game transition perfectly I don't think the build was optimized that well, but I believe you can make it work
I think for a newcomer, Samurai might be better. Fighting Spirit teaches them resource allocation beyond Action Surge, and can be more rewarding when they try to pop off with it, especially with GWM or SS. The added proficiency and bonuses to Persuasion also incentivizes & rewards good-faith NPC interactions out of combat.
I had a guy join my game, a friend’s kid. (Is mid 20’s a kid? I swear I’m not that old…) Used to play, just a little, but likes the game. Race ✅ Class✅ Subclass✅ Level 4 he goes…Ranger! No idea he was going to get creative on me.
ב"ה I think that the tough feat, that just give you a static bonus to HP, doesn't really complicate the build. So is the resilient(wisdom) feat. I don't think feats that just give static bonuses really need to be exluded from this build, because they don't make it coplex in any way.

There he is...John Dungeondragon
You meant "John Geonsandragons"
What are these references?

They're ready for that city based courtly intrigue adventure heist....
That thumbnail is savage

Another option is the Warrior sidekick class played with a Noble. Pretty unoptimized and boring, but you do get Parry for a reaction.
I think this one is ready for the gauntlet. Can’t wait to see it.
I... I don't know what i was expecting.
I don’t either!

Rogues are a little too…. Interesting for this build.
imagine counting 10 sneak attack dice

Lol. I feel you.
Accurate Thumbnail
Hey, it's my first time seeing this channel, this build really is perfect for newcomers!
noice, loved it, when you tried to say ASI but kept saying Feat...lovely🤣
I do appreciate that even the most boring 5e build is at least competent.
Bro we just all watched a read along of a champion fighter. All hail the algorithm
You’re welcome

This is for a specific type of newcomer. The one that’s wants to put minimal thought into mechanics.
I lost hair watching this. 😩.
Can we see how this one does in the gauntlet but I'm legit rooting for the monsters no lie.
I had a guy join my game, a friend’s kid. (Is mid 20’s a kid? I swear I’m not that old…)

Before extra attack?!?!
@@cmccbuilds8229 yep. He’s played before, but not for a while. I’ll help him a bit.
As the BG3 friend, thank you.
This isn’t just a champion, it’s the people’s champion.
Haha! Love it.
This is really the penultimate elden ring boss DnD build: Soldier of Godrick :)
Hey Mike, how are ya feeing?
Fine thanks for asking!
I say this everytime but why is your voice like butter
Lol
Hello. My name is Jen Eric, Human Fighter.
LOL!

Agreed. But “no feats” was the rule here. Some people don’t even play with feats *gasp*
I's play this, mo problem. Its fun and solid but than I played the Phandelver Elf Wizard and had a lot of fun so what do I know?
1:05 How are you feeling?
Amazing! And I hope you are too!
It's any 5th edition character.
Awww
video starts at 2:30
You mean "the build starts". The video starts at 0:00 - intro is an important part of understanding the why. I wouldn't suggest skipping it.
@@cmccbuilds8229 Nah, I mean the video. We dont need 2 mins of advertisement and an intro in a 6 min video, bruh. Thats weak AF

Hey mate
How are you feeling? Want to join a oneshot I’ll be running on discord? 😘
You’re lovely :)
Hi CMCC! Wanna play a game? BTW how are you feeling?
I'm doing amazing! Thanks for asking :)
That's good to hear!
Fairly certain that this character is the baseline the game designers use at WotC to set their baseline for damage.
Hey Mike.
Critical Role Optimized again when?
I guess the new show is in October. Maybe I’ll do campaign 1 for that release. That’ll be my goal.
Galadriel slander sad
The thumbnail isn’t Galadriel. The last onscreen portrayal of Galadriel was in 2014 ;)
sorry but the 18th level feature is too complex and makes my brain hurt
lol!
