I created this channel to share my passion for PC gaming and gaming hardware in general. My main focus is benchmarking some of the latest games on my collection of GPU's and CPU's in a way that is easy to understand. I don't know it all but what I know I like to share as others have shared and continue to share with me. PC gaming is a growing market that can be a bit technical and even intimidating for some. I'd like to do what I can to help with understanding it better.
God of War Ragnarök on PS5 Pro VS RX 6800XT PC - First Party Advantage?
We check out the latest GoW Ragnarok patch for the PS5 Pro and compare it to an RX 6800XT based PC build. This is a curiosity driven experiment and I was particularly interested because it is a first party game that should leverage the console hardware better than most games.

God of War Ragnarök - RTX 4090 VS RX 7900XTX - IMPRESSIVE
This particular game has a known issue with the AMD cards. NVIDIA cards blow the 6800xt away in this game. However in pretty much every other game the rx 6800xt will destrot a PS5 Pro
In my country, you can get a decent last gen gaming pc with a used rx6800xt + 1440p monitor for the price of ps5 pro.
ps5 was upscaled was it not?
Yes I looked at both. Upscaling starts at 5:25
The juice is not worth the squeeze. The differences are so incredibly subtle without comparison that it certainly doesn't justify the cost of the hardware needed to run it or the cost to power draw. I can run the game at 80% GPU usage with RTX GGI off vs 99% with it set to medium with a noticable difference in fan noise. If i did a blind test i swear i wouldn't be able to tell you which image has it on or off.
Great comparison
Worth to mention that DF said ps5 uses ultra preset in quality mode only. Performance mode uses lower settings. And in first God of War we was able to change resolution scale with taa upsampling so i dont understand why its not available in Ragnarok.
Right it's why I didn't look into the Performance PSSR mode. Wasnt sure if it targets different settings or maybe it upscales from 1080P instead of 1440. I try to find out as much as I can than try to compare always showing my settings in case I missed something people can pitch in the comments and discuss.
This game is fine its not rt heavy. When u compare with any rt heavy game the 7900xtx straight goes down a few tier to compare with a 4070super. I had a 7900xtx but sent it back after a week to get a 4080super as for me rt was the main reason to get an expensive card.
ITS EXPENSIVE...IDONT CARE ABOUT DETAILS..ITS EXPENSIVE
Agree some Sony games can be a bit heavy with CPU when you enable RT Spider-man remastered you lose a fair bit of fps when you enable RT RT rarely effects CPU but does in some games by a bit Hitman 3 is another game with highest reflections, such a mad drop once you enable that for some reason lol
I believe I heard they use the decompression block in the PS5 to load and offload data in Spider-Man freeing up CPU resources on console whereas on PC that's all handled by the CPU. Direct Storage was supposed to be the solution and Nvidia has similar tech RTX IO I think its called but that's been all up in the air unfortunately as far as being implemented in games in a similar way.
@@TerraWare Interesting, can't say i've ever really looked into it that deeply, but I do know Sony have always been good using little tricks to get games running on their limited hardware which is good on them I think atm too much in some of these newer games is being done too destroy performance on PC. Stalker 2 coming out soon, really looking fwd to that, but can't say I was massively impressed by the benchmarks before upscaling Guess we'll see how it runs 😆I mean for a shooter it should be higher, but I have a lot of time also for them devs, mad what they have been through with the war over theRE & making a game still
Yeah it's mad how much performance and value you get on the 5000 series CPU still. I've been looking at a few videos myself out of interest & even a 5600x does a good job even tho it's not a x3d chip People who want to buy a PC don't need to always buy the best CPUs even if you want a higher end graphics card Although I'd say it's a good time now to upgrade from AM4 to AM5....AM4 still going strong tbf I had someone say you need to upgrade every year on PC but I said "I only upgrade because I choose too, I never really need to upgrade" 😆 Like you see i'd never recommend a ryzen 3000 CPU these days especially with the latest demanding games coming out Lowest I'd say would be a 5700X3D or 5800X3D if can get one, £99 Difference so i'd say 5800X3D if you're on a budget
What i am more interested is if PSSR will be brought to pc for amd users?
Maybe. Not PSSR but rumors are that there is an AI based FSR 4 coming with new AMD GPU and that it's what PSSR is based on. Of course these are rumors and only time will tell.
can intel 12400f works for 4k with this GPU ?
I. Playing god off war again and let me tell you u need to see for yourself self cuz the game looks more amazing the. It did playing on the pro holy crap is that good
Yesterday i think DF released a video for AW2. They compared RT and DLSS with the PRO console. It is a rtx 4070 graphics card. The difference is huge in favor of rtx 4070 and DLSS upscaling. DLSS simply destroyed pssr. And RT looks much better even with Low settings on RTX 4070 compared to PS5 pro.
Yeah I saw it. Wasn't surprised as I took a look at it myself using my 3080Ti. The whole "it's a 4070" narrative or "PSSR is equivalent to DLSS" was something people trying to push a narrative ran with because it was convenient. DF said that the "feature set" was most comparative with the 4070 at the time. Not that it is. Makes sense, they hadn't tested the thing at the time and it will take many more tests to find out exactly what its most comparable to. You can already deploy a 4070 to play Cyberpunk or AW2 with path tracing or tweak RT settings in many other games, something you cant really do on the Pro. Regardless I remain curious to see the RT improvements in action as we find out more about it and see how PSSR improves. DLSS has had a lot of time to get better and better.
6800XT is a GPU older than the base PS5, for perspective. It came out before the OG machine came out. Here we are over four years later now comparing a brand new PS5 Pro to it.
@@MB_Tat 6800xt is as good if not better than 4070
@@genasgenas Confidently incorrect
@@MB_Tat check for yourself 6800xt vs 4070. They are very similar in Fps.
@@genasgenas Not in this game they aren't, RTX4070 is 20 percent faster at 1440p
@@MB_Tat I replied to your original post about "PS5 Pro comparing to 4 years old Gpu". So compare to 6800xt or 4070 new gen Gpu as they in general they are very similar in performance. Obviously depends on the game. So your "Confidently incorrect" is Super confidently incorrect. Now we see that PS5Pro performs sometimes a bit bellow 4070 ,sometimes same and in some cases even outperforms. All depends on the game. And all thanks to Console's usual great game optimization ,versus unfortunately horrible Pc very often.
The clothes are clipping through the armor/shield on the back 😂😂😂 WTF?
Lets not forget GOWR on PC heavily leans toward NVIDiA. PS5 Pro is basically using a 6800 or 7700 XT. Those are better cards to compare with PS5 Pro.
The pc graphism are clearly better... are you blind?😮
PS5 Pro in Australia and Stand is $1250 aud (not even adding disc drive and online PSN costs) , I can build a 5700X3D and RTX4070 machine for $1400 aud is plenty capable and all the other PC benefits inc DLSS. Once you start hunting some deals on offer week tto week you can get a superb gaming PC being GPu bound and exceeding the Pro for not much more money.
Nice video, not always easy to get matched settings but both platforms make their users happy thats what matters.
@@SKHYJINX Lmao PS is not making their users happy, they get treated like sh!t with little backwards compatibility, price hikes of games, consoles and PS+ and off course, no games lol. PS users are not happy at all which is why consoles are stagnent. And if this continues, Consoles will start dying lol
@@DragonOfTheMortalKombat With all that said, plenty of PS5Pro users are still gushing over it. Your right in the sense of value, but some people don't care and eat it up anyway, they are happy with their purchase. Even if flawed in their arguments.
Damn bro, that's crazy expensive for a console. I've said it before many times that PC has so much more utility and bigger library of games it is worth spending a bit more if that's the route you want to go. A lot of console vs PC arguments online around value are flawed because they ignore how much more a PC can do for your, even in gaming. It's not an apples to apples.
@@TerraWare i don't know how often i Tab out of games and Do something like writing messages in WhatsApp over Browser, clipping, cutting and uploading vids in RUclips/Tiktok.
I think ps games are not good comparison's becuase sony will gimp them to make the console look better
In my country rx 6800xt is the same price as a ps5 pro lol 😂😂
@@mariuslohan4780 how about 4070
Kind of scary a gaming console is as powerful as a 6800XT, many people still on 3060 or below lmao. I remember when games on PC were way faster than in console and you were running a mid range GPU like a 1060 which everyone had, the good old days.
It is. Like surprising the ps5 and series x launched at 2070 level..that's very high baseline. 6800 is 2020 tech still but yeah pssr..mixed feelings I wonder if we are not comparing like for like enough. Like we don't know the console settings only the fps and res.
Except that console also happens to cost like a 7900XT, doesn't include disc drive, doesn'tt even include a stand and is not selling well at all.
@erickalvarez6486 well the ps5 pro is close to it. A better estimate is somewhere close to an rx6800. However the biggest performance factor is the optimizations on console that just don't exist on pc. It will never be like for like because the games are not made exactly the same on pc to the way they are made on console.
6800Xt is four years old. PS5 Pro loses to RTX3070 on Alan Wake 2 as soon as you introduce any significant ray tracing. That card is also over four years old. Both cards launched BEFORE the original PS5. Kind of crazy you could build a PC over four years ago that a brand new PS5 Pro still can't quite match huh?
6800xt powerful? lol the shit came out 4 years ago
More powerful than a 4090???? 😂😂😂😂. The ps5 pro is a scam😂😂
Personally, I really dont see any difference 2K from 4K.. 1440p is sweetspot for me
Yesterday i connected a 4K screen to my PC besides my 1440p screen. 4K absolutly not worth it. at least at 27/28". At least for me personally. The impact on Performance is just too huge for the bump in claitity you get.
I do have a 6800xt. Thinking about upgrade and pro came to my mind as an option, however, as far as I can see ps5 pro is not an option in terms of upgrading from 6800xt😢
These comparisons are still pretty useless. Ps5/pro use dynamic resolution to try and maintain stabilize the highest fps it can achieve. Dynamic resolution will continually lower native resolution to keep a stable fps (this is where sony fixes alot of these gpu bound scenarios u talk about).
With VRR GOW working without dynamic res. Only static 1440p. And why you need dynamic res when your fps higher than 60?
@Stormrage699 because dynamic resolution is generally what allows for the game to run at that constant "4k" 60fps. People need to look into how dynamic resolution and fsr/pssr actually work together.
digital foundry are not experts. they're also just curious guys. they have like zero low level knowledge of rendering steps and only analyze surface level stuff
The 6800XT is performing poorly in this game, with significantly worse performance compared to the 3080 and 4070. Both Hardware Unboxed and TechPowerUp have tests confirming this. It’s likely a driver issue.
The latest update has a higher graphics mode.
Why did you do 4K? According to DF the game on Pro is running on 1440P Dynamic Resolution. You should do a proper research before doing a comparison.
it says FSR Q which means fsr quality mode,1440P internally, the same as pro
@@dannyhe8281 It's not the same, Dynamic Resolution means ps5 can just lower the resolution below 1440p if the game starts to go below the desired fps rate but in FSR's case (or any other upscaler) Resolution will stay the same regardless of the performance you're getting.
You are a clown. It is upscaled to 4k with pssr and on pc amd uses fsr which is shit cope and sethe.
@@legendknight2037 yeah but i think it doesn't really drop below 1440p according to DF
The irony. It's right in the beginning 0:28 they pixel counted 1440P upscaled to 4K with PSSR or TAA. Lets use logic here for a second though, dynamic resolution is used to maintain a target framerate when the game becomes GPU bound and can't hit the target. These HFR modes run with an unlocked FPS and are always above 60. It doesn't make sense. Even Rich in that DF clips says this.
So it can get a bit better than a 6800xt in some areas with first party games, that’s interesting
It depends. In this title specifically AMD GPU tend to underperform a bit vs Nvidia for whatever reason. That's not the case for say Horizon, so it's more of a case by case when it comes to first party.
@@TerraWareCan u do dragon age vanguard to compare with the pro mode ? I think they butchered the pro mode too. The game runs at 30 locked on 1440p native. When I watched some benchmark it can easily do over 60 fps with the 6800
Remember that ps5 pro dont use ultra preset thoo, pointless comparison
According to Digital Foundry's PC review of the game PC doesn't scale beyond the console graphically. Its the same as PS5 Quality mode which is what the Pro is using to than upscale from 1440P with PSSR
@@charizard6969 panties showing
@@TerraWareit doesn't mean it's using the same settings tho, would wait for df to clear it out

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh im so happy satan gifted me with a Red Devil RX 7900 XTX i love the devil and hate Rabbi Baby-Jesus im a gamer in a gamer world
Nice! I have a Sapphire Nitro+ 7900 XTX
Good video. I would love to see the PS5 Pro having an option to use FSR FG in games like this where there is a lot of headroom. With AMD GPU's you can just cap to 60fps and then try to double it to 120fps if the PS5 Pro's GPU is fast enough to do it. Unfortunately this is a PS4 game at its base so it might not be possible on current gen games that may not have the headroom. It's a good way to overcome the CPU limit and also I think these days a 60fps target on PC is a bit low since a lot of people would be using 144hz+ monitors. Even TV's are getting to 120hz at affordable prices so I think 60fps is not the best experience especially for the price.
I wonder why they don't add a FG option that caps it at 120. Think the PS5 Pro would be able to do it not sure how it would work on console though. AMD GPU's underperform a bit in this title I remember and I'm told in the ocmments it appears to be the case still, I havent made any Nvidia vs AMD comparisons in this game. Still though 6800XT did pretty good except for that Svartleheim part in the end. There's a couple areas that are unusually demanding on the GPU.

..The speech that is not understood by users is that the Sony First Party games are deliberately not improved on PC, when they could do it very well, so as not to make the console counterparties disfigured on which they were created ... If you put a "pro" model of a console that makes them run, when on PC you don't have the slightest use of additional hardware, or specific specific improvement options, here is the result. Just have eyes to see and head to reflect at times. Sony titles behave as they have to console, while on PC by the will of Sony they are castrated in additional features
Essentially yes. The development is targeted at one piece of fixed hardware, thus there is often no better assets available unlike a multiplatform game where lots of different texture quality and effect settings are necessary. So on PC with lots more performance available you usually just get the ability to go for more resolution, more framerate and better filtering. Usually not a lot different, sometimes pushed out LODs and the like but they usually stay close in asset quality to the console.

seeing the Benchmarks from Techpowerup the RX6800XT performs lower than an RTX3070 at 1080p ouch! and at 1440p it is slower than 3070TI and it doesn't get better at 4K while the RX6800 is as fast as an RTX3060TI .. something Off with Radeon in this Title, ported by 4 People so these things can happen
Yep, It's something with this title, most of the time the 6800 is even equal or superior to a 3070ti in games that don't use ray tracing.
Driver?
NO
I'm very confident that PSSR is actually FSR 4. And this A.I chip is from the RX8000 design.
That's the rumor and it would kinda make sense. Maybe PSSR is a variant of FSR 4
AMD massively underperforms in this game. The 3080, which is usually close to the 6800 XT, demolishes it by 25-30% here.
It's pretty strange. At launch Ryzen 3000 massively underperformed and the game was initially built to run on Zen 2 until they patched it.
yup, its not a 1:1 comparison for this reason, devs haven't even acknowledged this problem with amd gpus, both rdna 2 and 3
Exactly this and card came out 2020 that's like a PC guy comparing a brand new 5080 to a PS5 which also came out in 2020

nice comparison! It's good to see Sony titles performing very well o the console. how they will tweak 3rd party games as well to run properly.
Yeah that will be interesting to see. Unreal Engine 5 games in particular since a lot of studios will be using it moving forward.
Well it's a lower end GPU with a brand new Sony an a game that bene remastered twice for that system. Any other game sn basically you above this would out perform t be is completely. Hell no victus has 4070 for 1066 bucks that would out perform this. If you wanna go lower the 4050 in Asus tuff also out performs this with every other game that isn't remastered twice for extra 20 fps at 1080. They should have invested in making the pro better for newer games
@@TerraWare yeah! Ue5 engine super heavy especially on cpu. How they will optimise it better. Even struggle on my 4080super lol
@@alvinamana1459 lol, i see you completely lost in the numbers. This first of all was bot coded on the pro. Just got a latch to run it. Also not in just this game going head to head with a 6800/6800xt almost in every game. Nvidia equivalent would be more of a 4070. As the 4060ti slower and only has 8gb of vram which really limits to 1080p. The console is a very good addition for the sony family. When they start to code that gems on it will be even better.
@k1cs1m3a8 I see you at least an have no idea what you are talking about a 6800xt is blow a 3080 an that's literally what it's compare with its never been compared with a 4070 once again a Sony fanboy who found one blog with a wrong comment an think that is right 😂😂😂 you sound so stupid right now a 6800 is 30 percent less than a 3080
how relevent is the higher memorybandwidth of the console? especially at 4K?
It's definitely beneficial.
PS5 Pro likely has less usable memory bandwidth than a 6800XT. A PC video card keeps all its bandwidth for video and the system's CPU gets its own pool of bandwidth. PS5 has a unified memory system, meaning it has to share bandwidth with the CPU, audio processors etc. Secondly the more bandwidth the CPU uses an even greater amount is taken away from the GPU. E.g if you use 20GB/s for the CPU, you lose a lot more than 20GB/s available for the GPU. This increases exponentially.
@@MB_Tat They've added 2 more GB of DDR5 for the system on the Pro apparently. Which is actually pretty interesting. Considering it uses Zen 2 CPU, I wonder how that works. It's why as a hardware enthusiast I find the custom nature of the Pro very interesting.
@@TerraWare They have, but that memory is essentially for the background GUI. So it means that 1.2GB of additional memory is available to developers in the 16GB unified pool. Game operations are not carried out inside the additional 2GB of memory, so what I said still applies to the Pro. Everything from game logic to audio uses unified memory bandwidth. The more CPU bandwidth you use, disproportionately the less the GPU has. On a PC the bandwidth 6800XT has for graphics is what it always has, not shared or impacted by the CPU's use or audio processing. PS5's GPU is not getting 576GB/s. It probably is not even getting 500GB/s when all is said and done. PS4 had a headline figure of 176GB/s, 140GB/s usable was a typical figure, less if you had a CPU heavy operation.
@@MB_Tat does the cpu even use high bandwidth? I always thought the only relevent thing for a cpu is latency? When i look at DDR5 Speed the bandwidth already is only 5% of the bandwidth a GPU uses?
Sony first party studios often do a really good job taking advantage of their console's hardware with their in-house engines so I was curious to see how the patched game would compare to my RX 6800XT GPU and it's quite interesting.
The 6800xt holds its own until you try play a game with Ray tracing and set to High. iv noticed alot of youtubers forgetting to point this out. Linustechtips just did a exelent video showing this using a AMD 7800xt. They had to tweak it to get to 60fps so if you wanted to tweak less id recommend a nvidia 4070 to get same performance as the ps5 pro running 4k Dlss 60fps RT High. ruclips.net/video/0euH0k56TRw/видео.html Exelent video showing a nvidia 4070 on spiderman 1 RT ON.
@@jacooosthuizen3593 RTX 4070 would be better at RT no doubt, better than PS5 Pro imo although I feel we need to find out more about the Pro's RT capabilities. The 6800XT is better at RT than many realize though. I have a 3080Ti as well but that would be a bit overkill to compare with the Pro and not as interesting imo.
This a great video I hope u continue stuff like this.🎉
@@jacooosthuizen3593 the 4070 is FAR ahead dealing with RT. on alan wake 2 the pro gets outperformed by a 2080 Ti when enabling RT.
@@wanshurst2416I'd be interested to see how the two compare in Spiderman 2 when it's released on PC (Sony first party vs Nvidia sponsored AW2). I have no doubt the 4070 will still be ahead, but I assume it will be closer. If the Pro can't close the RT performance gap in that title, I gotta wonder what that means for RDNA 4's claimed "significant" improvement in RT.
Sorry this happened to you mang, same happened here. The design issue is 12VHPWR itself. No margin of safety. All it takes is some oxidation on a single 12V pin and the load goad to all other lines. Not detectable. Guess what happens then with a 4090?
Sorry to hear, hope you can get it replaced without any cost.
The big problem I have with standard ray traced reflections is that most of the time they are too perfect. Real life reflections are influenced by multiple surface and material factors, but ray tracing often ignores those factors to present a perfectly mirror-like reflection. If all material properties were taken into account for proper surface and angularly influenced distortions, it would take on an entirely different level of believability. It should contain the visual information but also adhere to what is reflecting it. Examples: A puddle that has subsurface elements protruding up through it should bend the reflection at and around that intersecting detail. Brushed stainless steel should distort the light and reflection in a stretched manner, in respect to the direction of the steel weave, Etc. However, they did do a great job in this instance with the slightly wet, slightly reflective obscured road reflections. It actually accomplished the kind of thing I am talking about .
Still trying to understand the purpose of meters and graphic overlays, they mean absolutely nothing when measuring the Pro’s performance. It was sold as and most definitely turned out to be a machine that combines the power of the console and the power of a particular TV/Monitor( hdmi 2.1,120hz,ALLM,VRR) so to measure what it does before the final step is just disingenuous. I await the side by side offscreen comparison (same TV/monitor)that will ACTUALLY compare the two. Do the worst game you can imagine and have a play through of at least a half an hour or more. All the tech guys know this yet none will do the comparison honestly.
I wanted to play this with RT ON as well, too bad it causes the game to randomly crash..
What rams did u have? 32GB?
So you tell me 6800xt is a capable 4k card? Dang. Meanwhile me just thinking to upgrade my 1660ti to this for 1080p gaming.
🤦🏾♂️ This is not an apples to apples equivalent comparison. Consoles tend to always have custom settings way lower than on PC (i.e. Dynamic Resolution, Resolution, Textures, Anisotropic Filtering, Shadows, Lighting, Ray-Tracing, etc).
It could never really be an apples to apples. It's just for fun and curiosity really.
