Steamship Shieldhall
Великобритания
Добавлен 8 апр 2013
Shieldhall is a Heritage steam ship and a member of the National Historic Fleet. Recognised to be the largest working steam ship of her type in Britain and probably Europe, she serves as a tribute to Britain's maritime heritage and a living reminder of the golden age of steam.

Father's Day Excursion - Shieldhall in Slow Motion!
Bonnie wee beastie...
Lovely explanation, it would be good to hear both of them in the next short 🙂
She has 2 whistles 🤯🤯🤯🤯
I don't think it is legal to hire a raccoon to clean the funnel. LOL
I'm calling the RSPCA, poor Sooty, lol.
Magnificent
Southampton was really a late player in the ocean liner market, to the best of my knowledge it only really kicked off when White Star inagurated their Southampton service in 1907, providing a weekly service with two of their largest liners Adriatic and Oceanic, and two smaller liners from the previous decade, Teutonic and Majestic. Cunard began servicing Southampton with the Aquitania in 1914, though Lusitania and Mauretania stated at Liverpool until 1919. Following the war, the world's biggest liners all used Southampton docks. There's a glorious poster from the 1930's showcasing SS Normandie and RMS Queen Mary, then the world's grandest liners. An era that has since been lost, but replaced be booming cruise industry.
Tiny detail - Aquitania is pronounced "Aqui-tay-nia", as heard in this 1935 Pathé newsreel: ruclips.net/video/Nt0dK9NfQQA/видео.htmlsi=ThYeKgPlU1qoZESy
This is honestly kinda sad and embarrassing to see. The fact that we embellish this tragedy in such a senseless way. Titanic's journey out of Southampton was nothing out of the ordinary, and she would be followed by hundreds and hundreds of other similar liners. The only difference here being how it ended in tragedy. That's what it boils down to.
ONGGG SHE LOOOKS AMAZINGGGGGGGG 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
She's soooooo beautiful 😍🤩
Good commentary, very dumbed down though, I guess that's a reflection of today's levels of edewkayshun.
Lovely to see and great the ship is still going strong and link to the past.
Fantastic video, thank you!
What a lovely machine! Triple expansion engines! Yes, like the Titanic, but she had two triple expansion reciprocating engines for ahead and a high pressure turbine driving the centre line prop for astern motion and maximum ahead speed. Shieldhall is really beautiful and so odd to have modern equipment we take for granted, yet old fashioned oil fired boilers to make steam. Well done to all of Shieldhall's membership and crew.
Great video! Really interesting talking to you yesterday (8th June) too. A really wonderful day, and I'm sure we will be sailing with you again. Thanks to all the Shieldhall team - you are all doing an amazing job!😁😁
Lovely update video. I look forward to seeing more. It would be awesome to see you in Scilly!
Great video. It was lovely to sail on the afternoon cruise to see Queen Anne and we will back on board soon!
😂. 😅😅😅😮😮😮
Shes a cool stream ship 😎🔥!!
Answer, simple - A much stronger banking system
Now this stage is skipped, raw sewage is pumped straight into the sea.
Great ship
I served my apprenticeship in Barclay Curles & Co, Drydock. The Shieldhall came in for service around 1956o 57.and I worked in the sewage tanks. Redeleaded and immaculate. I always thought it and its sister ship Dalmarnock were called banana boats bcause of the cargo of turds?
I remember these ships running out of the Thames in the ‘60s - generally known by other mariners calling them “Bovril” boats
I got a fever, and the only cure is more steam winch...
Very cool! Down here in Perth, Werstern Australia we have the Decoy, an old steamboat that does party cruises on the river. This makes me want to volunteer. I suspect your boat is a mite bigger. The Decoy was built with 40 hp engines, now replaced by 16 hp from a lumbermill. I am told they must be careful where they go because they cannot outpace the wind!

We used to call them MARMITE BOATS.
Neah Bovril boats.
👍
The only thing she will never be, is a true British built ship. Will always be z foreign built ship to me.
Wonderful to see an old lady still running. I hope to sail on her one day.
Great experience, you won’t regret it!
Interesting observation. I Wonder if we have much other choice than to hoist an immensely heavy chain and it’s anchor up physically
The S.S. Turdhall! Beware of the brown water don't swim in it!
Shiteing in the ocean!!
WOW., display life saving device. I wonder if they're mark as such!
I mean as long as they are mostly watertight, I know how to use a bucket, and if the ship is sinking... If it floats, I boats...
If the ship sinks then all bets are off. If it floats im going to use it if i have to but knowing the UK bureaucracy they probably stipulate the ship drills huge holes in them so they are not miss used.... 🧐 Even in an emergency..... 😒
absolutely useless information
That’s now what the whistle sounds like
I mean they could… but they should not be used.
Living history
❤❤
Nice
Gefeliciteerd met deze mooie schepen.
What a lovely past... Anyone wanna take a "dip"?

I saw the Sheildhall in Weymouth many years ago. I'm a coach driver from near Glasgow. One of the crew invited me on board for a guided tour, and I really enjoyed it. I travelled on the Clyde Steamers as a child and have been a fan of vintage transport all my life.
They also used the soundtrack from the Skarloey Railway
That was the RMS Olympic, sister ship of the RMS Titanic, in the background of one of the photos.
