Shieldhall is a Heritage steam ship and a member of the National Historic Fleet. Recognised to be the largest working steam ship of her type in Britain and probably Europe, she serves as a tribute to Britain's maritime heritage and a living reminder of the golden age of steam.

It's great to see a vessel with such a mundane past be so lovingly preserved and operated. While warships are certainly important, keeping a few old workhorses around reminds people to appreciate the oft unsung common laborer and everything they have given us. Today, it is very easy to lose sight of all the industry and work that has gone into developing our modern lifestyle. Exhibits like this give much needed perspective and give cause to think about both how far we have come and what still needs doing.
