This is where I think virtual reality could really shine and it's an absolute travesty that the gaming industry has not picked up on these concepts. Imagine being able to explore famous times and places, ships, trains, The Colossus of Rhodes, The Hercules, the White House in 1863, Pearl Harbor, Colonial Boston, The World Trade Center. I love this; keep it going.
I like trains more than ocean liners and airships, but the fact that this game has an educational and interactive component has me convinced that it will be incredible! 😊
I would recommend looking into century of steam in regards to trains. It's a game being developed by a bunch of very passionate steam preservationists.
This game has so much potential, Not even with just airships and ships themselves, but the port cities and different eras. I hope they full this game with so much.
I'm speechless. I haven't seen game graphics this astounding in, well, all my life, and the soundtrack is absolutely exquisite! Well done to everyone involved! I sure hope it one day becomes available on more platforms like Mac or even consoles - would love to try it out for myself!
One ship would be amazing to have built is the French Lines Normandie. That would be an amazing ship to be able to walk around. Especially in VR. Your content is always enjoyable. CHEERS
This is Amazing, seeing an Australian Team (I am Aussie, and from Geelong) Develop a Game about one of my Favorite Topics, And to make it look this good, it's magnificent. Mind you, did I spy the Funnel of an American Line Ship at 5:46, looks like the America considering it's position compared to the other funnel, hidden behind a Crane
dude 100% agree with you ! the Game Looks Awesome for us Ocean Liner and Ship Enthusiasts! but than to also Have it essentially a "Made In Australia" Game is just way awesome .. also from Melbourne!
This is a game I’ve always wanted that I never actually thought would be made. I thought ocean liners were too niche of a topic, so I am grateful that there are people out there like you and your team making such a game a reality. Thank you!
Omg this is every maritime historians dream!!!! Thank you thank you thank you Mike and your team for producing this, I’m so excited to play the finished product 😍 similar reaction when I discovered Tom Lynskey and the Titanic: Honor and Glory project, I couldn’t contain my excitement!! People like you guys are such a credit to history, and I honestly am so grateful to you all xx
Will the game have one of the german liners Bremen and Europa? The Bremen is one of my favorite liners of all time. I think it's the first liner with a mail plane on board.
This is wonderful!!! The sound of the ocean and sea gulls. The shadow of the character walking along. The main music makes me think it's an adventure about to begin. Well done Mike and team.
One of my most anticipated projects this year, I think what would put it over the top would be a Simplified Multi Crew Co-Op/Online aspect where you have to manage each aspect of the systems and to be able to actually pilot these vessels to different places. That to me would be the be all end all of what could make this a major hit from people into this project.
The music is amazing, absolutely moving and captures the very essence of these machines and the ports they called home. I cannot wait for this. Will you be recreating Titanic, or is that staying with Honor & Glory?
Fascinating seeing the Ocean Terminal built at the berth 44 built in 1908 till 1911 for White Star the same place from what Titanic left in post war period of WWII. At 7:37 one can see on left upper corner the two floor gantry used boarding the Olympic trio and many other ships. It got scrapped after war. Terminal opened in 1950 and got torn down in 1983 on the spot of original train and passenger shed serving the Olympic trio with other ocean liners from Normandie, France, the Queen's etc. As it was rented out when free. Most of the late Golden Age ocean liners before air travel stopping at Southampton. They even preserved the rail tracks for passenger trains to stop beneath the roof of the terminal for comfort.
Everything about this project is nothing short of awesome. As an experienced hobby 3D modeler and boat enthusiast myself, I'm left with only one thought; there simply aren't enough hours in the day. If I could give everything up and join this team, I would do so in a heartbeat. At best, one day, I'll be able to purchase all of what's available and just spend a huge portion of my free time enjoying it. Kudos and respect to all at O.L.D; I know what it takes to create things like this and consider the skills of those involved, music included, greatly underrated.
A fantastic update!!! Great to hear the team is growing! I do hope you're not married to the 2024 release date; a delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad, after all! Release it when it's done, I say! I really love the idea of this game, the idea of a living, breathing experience that's constantly being adjusted and added to. It's just lovely.
Even after so many months I still find it hard to believe that some people are actually pulling this off! It feels like tooth fairy fulfilling my wish hahaha
Great work so far! Will closely follow the project, so maybe one day I can embark on my two grandest voyages imaginable - the pre-WWI Orient Express and the LZ-129 Hindenburg.
0:38 WOW and WOW again! Look at the Art-deco sea terminal at Southampton! Well done! Is the Normandie planned? Hindenburg and Graf Zeppelin too? Congrats and kudos to you, Mike!
Mike, I’m so very proud of you and the team for coming so far. Everything so far looks absolutely brilliant, and I’m most definitely excited for the updates and release. Well done you guys!
Hi, one of the passengers on the R101 flight that crashed in France in October 1930 was Michael Rope. The Rope family built a small chapel in his memory. Over the years it was greatly extended by the family. The church is 'Holy Family and St. Michael' in Kesgrave, Suffolk. It is part of St. Mary's Catholic parish and there is an entry about it on the St.Mary's web site. There are some very good stained glass windows which were made by one of the Rope family ladies. A model of the R101 hangs just inside the church entrance.
My grandfather would have met Michael Rope. He was a passenger aboard R101. His name was William Palstra and the book AIRSHIP OF DREAMS is released in April 2024.
That shot at 6:38 - did I see the SS United States? (I know I did...it's kinda had to miss those red, white, and blue uptakes.) If so I hope she'll also be part of this experience.
Everything is absolutely amazing! The music brings everything to life! The musical representation of the ships at sea made me smile. Keep up the great work!
Dear Mike and the amazing team of Grand Voyage - thank you so much this wonderful teaser - and what a teaser it is. The work you all have been doing is already such a tribute to the past eras of sea travel and these magnificent ladies. What has blown me away, is the music and soundtrack - wow, just wow.... this is all shaing out to be an unforgetable game experience. I am so looking forward to the interiors, the texturing, the lighting ambiance, and of course the people we will encounter and get to know. You did not mention it, and I suppose it will be too much to expect at this stage of the game, but please, please consider including some of the crew areas, espeically the working galley, bakery, wine cellar and provision storerooms. Thank you so much. Last possible suggestion, please don't forget the Unioin Castle Mail Ships that sailed each week between Southampton and South African coastal cities e.g. RMS Edinburgh Castle (1947), RMS Pendennis Castle (1957) etc.
I hope you're able to include the Empress Of Australia. It had a very stylish Oriental themed first-class saloon/lounge and dance floor. It was a beautiful ship!
This looks to be superb! I love the idea that the ships might be populated with passengers and crew in relevant style of their time rather than with empty decks etc.. It would be exactly like time travel!
late for this but if you will include a mode called "Real-Time Game Mode" its going to beat the Penn & Teller's Smokes and Mirror's Desert bus game by a huge margin of days..... imagine from Southampton to New York, you will have to spend 7 to 8 days onboard a ship. or less if you are in an airship.
I love the look of this. As somebody who's lived beside Southampton Water for the majority of my life, I remember the final years of the Ocean Terminal, and look forward to being able to see it again.
Wow it’s come such a long way already! Can’t wait for the launch! My fave so far is the Southampton theme song. The grand voyage theme coming in second! So exciting! 🚢 🎮 the visuals and details are absolutely breathtaking! The team should be so so proud of their work! Great job!!
I am so excited for this experience and for the team behind it all. We are all so grateful for everyone's hard work reproducing history in an interactive format. I hope it will inspire all generations and provide a catalyst to reproduce one of the most inspiring and dare say cultured times in our history.
Do you plan on putting disaster scenarios for players to experience? I watch all your titanic videos. I've watched several movies and documentaries, and read many books, but to be able to experience her maiden voyage as it was in such detail would be amazing. I mean no disrespect to those who were lost, I just think it would be an amazing teaching tool. You guys are doing great and I can't wait to see the final product.
Hey Mike! its lovely to see all this and cant wait! If i may i'd like to add one thing though. I know its a work in progress i just wanted to say that at 7:00 we see the city of Québec as i presume would be on Empress of Ireland. As we all know she sank in 1914 but i saw that Chateau Frontenac has it tower which was only built in 1924. As i said i know its a work in progress and i cant wait to see the final result :))
Beautiful work! The whole team should be proud of what they’ve done so far. The music is especially lovely. I hope there will be a soundtrack released along with the game. I’d totally listen to the Empress of Ireland theme just on its own.
This is so stunningly beautiful! I cannot wait to play this. The themes are amazing, really capture the mood and eras well. As before, the ambient lighting is beautifully done. Definitely going to check out the video mentioned. Aquitania, yay!! And I love that the NPCs are being given as much detail as everything else. Blank-faced NPCs would be creepy (although I would laugh out loud if there's a painting or photo somewhere of the Gorse-Joneses (IYKYK 😂)

As a Sotonian (adopted) it's great to see town brought to life in virtual form. Particularly pleasing to see the old Ocean Terminal. Where's South Western House :p
I’m sure this question may get asked a lot, but has there been any consideration about adding the Olympic class in eventually? I can understand as just as you explained in the video, that the Aquitania will be such a large model let alone the Olympic class. But to think how much, I’m sure everyone including myself would love to experience the Olympic class, no matter the ship, in a dry dock in all the types of settings the game permits, would just be awesome to do. Good stuff mate, can’t wait to see the project further down the line :)
I can only imagine how excited the engineers at Fairfields would have been to have been able to see their boiler rooms and triple expansion engine designs digitally recreated like this. Separate question: will Ocean Terminal include its famed interiors as well?
I used to go and what the ship go off from the building that replaced the Ocean Terminal it was called the Mayflower it been closed now but you can still watch them go off from mayflower park right next to the cruise Terminal now well worth a trip if you are ever in the UK
