There was never any doubt. If you look at your sister like Cloud looks at Aerith you have problems.

I'll add a little schadenfreude here: the famous Cloti kiss turned out to be a kiss with no lip contact....😅 That's how important this moment was to the developers.

Even when the devs straight up have Aerith and Cloud go on MULTIPLE DATES, they still somehow managed to distort Hamaguchi’s words into meaning sibling love. And now Hamaguchi has confirmed that they will not out right come out and confirm any ship. That we should use the game and events to determine what they’re trying to portray. And this is exactly what most of us have been doing which is how we even concluded that Cloud and Aerith have feelings for each other. But regardless, those same people are still going to ignore blatant facts because it doesn’t matter to them. It doesn’t matter if they interlocked hands on a date or if Cloud dreamed about his mother’s ideal girl for him in Aeriths house. All that matters is that… in THEIR head, it’s Tifa. But what I loved most about of all this, is Hamaguchi REFUSED to let them continue manipulating the meaning of his words and set the record straight.

This touching moment is one of the reasons why I'm genuinely confused Tifa gets way more hate than Sephiroth. Tifa didn't kill Aerith nor did she intend to hurt Cloud and actually feels sorry about it. Sephiroth killed Aerith and relishes in torturing Cloud without remorse. If anything, this paints Sephiroth as WAY MORE toxic than Tifa. Yet he's more liked than Tifa in Clerith spaces despite having robbed Cloud of his lover forever. What Tifa did to Cloud is clearly minuscule compared to Sephiroth.

I've always been a Clerith before I even got into FF7, but I still love Tifa. I see Cloti as a platonic couple, rather than a romantic couple. I'm glad I dodged a huge bullet by not preferring Cloti given how toxic they are to real-life people. But still, I'm really tired of being called a "pick-me Cletith"/"Cloti in disguise" just because I call out Cleriths invading Cloti spaces as much as I do to Clotis invading Clerith spaces.

Imagine you are a dev and half your playerbase is so dense, you have to give an interview to say the obvious: the clearly romantic relationship is, in fact, not a brother-sister relationship, lmao. I really wonder what they think over at SE every time they log onto twitter or other social media. Not sure of I'd cry or laugh if that was me.

Aerith is the love of the life of Cloud, and Tifa is just a neighbour from his childhood (with two forced hugs and one stiff kiss if you chose to ignore Aerith and if you, the player go the extra mile to favor Tifa) but if you let the game flow naturally, you don't get the special cutscenes with Tifa, only with Aerith. end of story.

I can't imagine how frustrating it has to be, to be a writer and have to remember that language barriers lead to people misunderstanding what you mean all the time. Hamaguchi called Aerith "big sisterly" because that is a narrative role and trope she does fulfill, but because that translates in a strictly platonic (or further strictly familial) context to English speakers it was misunderstood. Aerith can fulfill a big sister role and still be romantically entwined with Cloud people, I'm begging for the internet to not be weird about non-English interviews.

Im on page with you all but I can’t help but get this feeling that they intend to pair Zack with Aerith in the end. From my understanding, These games are essentially a prequel to the terrible Advent Children movie. I hope their not going the direction I think they’re going with this but it is what it is. Also I wasn’t a fan of Crisis Core either, to me that’s not the Zack fair that was depicted to us in OG ffvii. The amount of retcons in the supposed cannon spin offs is ridiculous.

Soon it'll be all over the Internet's "It wasn't Hamaguchi who said it, it was Jenova!" threads. In all seriousness, I'm glad that the person is responding and fighting the misinterpretation of their words, but I still fear for the developers really seeing the response from the audience and may sag to a particularly loud, inadequate and toxic part of the fandom.

I saw that the r/FF7Remake sub mods deleted someones post about Hamaguchi debunking what he said. Lmao, these people can't even accept the person working on the game telling them that they are wrong.

They literally go on like four or five dates in Remake and Rebirth! 1) rooftops 2) park 3) clock tower 4) beach 5) slums and church. Only 4) was optional! Do these ppl even know or like FF7??

I think it's ridiculous how people treat this subject. So the kiss between Tifa and Cloud didn't happen? They also have a story. I agree with Aerith's voice actress, it's an RPG game. There is no absolute truth, you choose. And everyone should respect each other.

Devs should be active over social media, but I think there are some topics it's best for them to avoid - the shipping wars being one of them. If I were them, I would write a press release stating that there is no romantic Canon and never will be. That romance is always up to choice and interpretation. Categorically. In bold. Maybe three times. I just think this would finally kill the 'debate' and let people enjoy the games.

I think it's crazy how this fandom would engage in a Japanese franchise yet refuse to acknowledge the nuances that is the Japanese language. I saw a jp on twitter a little upset that the iconic "I want to find you" line was changed to just straight-up naming Cloud as in, "Cloud, I want to find you" because there are still people arguing that Aerith is talking about Zack. So now the developer just spoonfed it into EC. They make a good point about how the language will lose its beautiful nuances in the future because of fans being media illiterates. While I understand jp fans' plight, I can't blame the devs because this fandom is probably the most cooked fandom out of all video games fandom I've been in. The only fandom that ignores the plot is the FF7 fandom.

The original FF7 ultimania has Aerith (called Aeris by western at the time) literally a ‘strong willed older sisterly type’ it’s a term of a type of woman used in Japan. OG and Rebirth Claudia literally says to cloud “an older sisterly type woman’. People need to actually pay attention to what the actual story tells the players the entire time. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Like for real, how you playing this game, seeing how cloud and Aerith interact and thinking it’s “familial’ 😂😂😂 people thinking that need to get help. 😅

I like your explanation for Cloud and Aerith but still I won't change my mind that I'm still a Cloud and Tifa relationship. For the first time I played FF7 Remake (doesn't played the og), I fell in love Tifa, and the bond between the two of them. The backstory, their childhood memories, and his promise to her. I also love the bond with Aerith because they're also lovely but I love more with Tifa, even after Aerith's death in Rebirth. Her death got me depressed until now.

Hamagoatchi for the win. You'd have to be playing the game with your eyes shut to not understand.

So, this thing that devs will not discuss or say anything about relationships, can it be prorated? Like, that statement from KN saying that deep in his heart, T and C end together because everyone is going home where they belong. I don't mean to disrespect N, but I find it unfair that devs know all secrets and profit from it with the books and other media. Just saying. Great video, btw. Congrats!

I played the OG back when I was 7 years old. That scene with Claudia and the flashback was super easy for me to understand the context and what the devs were trying to tell me. Remake was just as simple. How did I, a 7 year old, easily understand it, but grown people don’t understand now?!?? Or maybe they just don’t want to see it because it goes against what they like. 🤷🏼‍♀️ When all that happened I never doubted my beautiful Clerith 😤 Hate that Hamaguchi has to clarify, but also glad he did it. I think devs interacting with the fans is fun and I enjoy it but also I know there are negatives for both the devs and the fans as well at times.

Well when my sister wears her stunning red dress, I...😂 I think devs should stay off social media and wait until the story is finished. Then they can explain everything properly after. I don't want anything to be spoiled for myself. More mystery, more sales.

Not only debunked, but it was also confirmed Aerith is the type of girl that Cloud's mom thought was the perfect wife for Cloud. I know we already kinda knew this, but it's nice for it to be stated without any doubt. Also as a side note I feel bad for Hamaguchi. He must have seen the western clickbait articles and thought: "What? I didn't say that."

The fact he even had to come out and explain this is ridiculous. I'm glad he did but wow, people will just continue to see what they want to see and ignore the obvious. Thanks for all the content.

one of the funniest things is he coulda just gushed over Cloti without all that delusion. he's funny and I would have totally loved the video if i shipped CloTi, but he outright ignored everything else in the story AND declared it as canon.

Whenever I see cloud and aerith interact in remake and rebirth, I see them having an understanding and close relationship that turns romantic, I played remake until aerith red dress reveal but I haven't played rebirth because I couldn't afford it sadly, but I seen some compilation of youtube videos of rebirth and remake that showcase clerith that makes me happy and excited but emotional for them.. one of my favorites of rebirth is the when aerith sings no promises to keep to cloud.. and one of my favorites of remake is when aerith dress reveal that makes cloud shock in awe.. so I don't think clerith have a sibling-coded relationship.. I see clerith as star-crossed lovers, i see clerith as a healthy, sweet and loving relationship, i hope they are reunited in part 3.. i really want them to be together..

Damn I can't even finish before having to comment. Between Tifa and Aerith, Aerith is always going to be the one your mother wanted you to be with, same with cloud. But I think we all know mom wasn't always right. Now I'll finish watching and see if you ever get off the "Mom said so, so it must be right" kick.

47hours left until pc release and i have already done all to not see videos n stuff from this game until today! But i perhaps need to check out atleast a little so i dont get a bad start w the unknow(but i have a hard time thinking this game will let me down) I mean my fav cast in game is in it+open world game and its supposed to be better then the previous game on all the parts i loved the most.. So i never liked a single FF game until i played FF7 remake integrad(i had also played FF7 on PS1 way back) So i im just sitting and counting down the last 47hours at the moment i guess.....damn i been waiting 4 this PS5 release on pc...Just hate these releases that comes to 1 console or just on pc....its just destroying the way gaming is supposed to be is what i think...Just me perhaps? I really wish they would have changed up the voices during combat. Hearing Tifa gleefully saying "I got this" after seeing Aerith die, plus her theme playing. Just kinda out of place.

I’ve strived so hard to see how Tifa was always meant to be it… I’ve tried so hard but I always get Aerith no matter how I look at it. If anything Tifa was always getting more irritating. Perhaps because there wasn’t much screen time between them and it just felt off.
