His soft, with relief, “You’re okay.” I love how gentle he is with her. And him trying to chase after her tugs on my heartstrings every time. Both the old and new versions. Thank you for the uploads. I love watching the Clerith videos you make!!
That's the softest "You're okay," you'll ever hear. He had just traversed worlds, ran into Sephiroth, fought off some whispers, had no idea where he was, but the moment he saw that Aerith was fine, none of anything that just happened mattered, he was instantly relieved.
I’ll never get over how soft he is with her and I love it when he says her name. It makes me wonder how many times did he say her name in Remake and Rebirth I wonder.
That man is so soft for her! The sound of relief in his voice when he sees she's alive is everything. I love how they expanded on Aerith telling him to take care of himself and included the bit about her searching for him. It sounds like she just picked the conversation up from where she left off on the Gold Saucer date. They really did a fabulous job of updating this scene. I also love how they incorporated the whispers here when he has that dream moment of trying to run after her but being unable to move forward at all. While watching this I was struck by the contrast between the controlled Cloud trying to chase after Aerith for the black materia versus how Cloud is chasing after her here because he's worried about her. Some great parallels like how in the first scene the whispers stop Aerith from escaping, while here they stop him from catching up to her. There's that wonderful difference in how Cloud is calling after her in both scenes while begging her to stop running. We have Aerith giving Cloud the Meteor materia vs Cloud giving her the Holy materia here. Clearly SE structured them similarly on purpose to draw the comparisons.
This is an amazing analysis here, it's very telling to us how they went into more depth by placing emphasis on Aerith telling Cloud to focus on himself and keep it together. Further showing Aerith's incredible intuition when it comes to Cloud.

The haters are going to hate but for me as an OG player back in 97, FF7 Remake and Rebirth are masterpieces in my book, and far exceeded my expectations. It surpassed everything on every level for me, and it won’t be for a long time that we’ll get anything as close to the remake trilogy in terms of storytelling, music, graphics, fight mechanics, acting, voice etc. Square-Enix put everything they had into these games and mark my words, we probably won’t see anything like them for a long, long time. Last but not least, pray for those OG players that already returned to the planet and never got to experience the remake games. Thanks for the video! ❤👍
I agree. Although I don't have the same affinity for the OG as many do since I was probably too old when it came out for it to be nostalgic, going back and playing it last month it's not as good as I remembered it being. I actually prefer playing the Remake trilogy even if that puts me in the minority.
The haters are irrelevant. They're actually few and far between. Remake and Rebirth have been the ONLY games of the FF franchise that I've purchased on pre-order since the XIII trilogy was released. I've only played through the XV boy band game years later after the Ultimate Edition was heavily discounted (have yet to buy XVI).
Got FF7 on Christmas 97 and it will always be my favourite game of all time. Remake and especially Rebirth are amazing, they took me back to a place I thought I'd never see again.
Good job on posting this comparison! I love how they kept it similar to the og scene, it hits hard listening to the og music to the rebirth scene at the same time. I’ve been a fan of ffvii since 1997 and just love seeing it come this far with the voice acting and graphics. Please continue to post more of these comparisons and parallels!
This scene was always one of my favorites in the OG. Last time seeing Aerith before.. 😭 they absolutely nailed this scene in Rebirth! It's very faithful to OG, the music is gorgeous and just overall so beautiful! I tear up every time Cloud tries to go after her. He literally crawls through the branches to get to her 😭💔
I thought the Rebirth version was better in that while both happen in his head, he’s at least IN the sleeping forest on Barret’s back this time as opposed to asleep randomly at Gongaga. Having Aerith lead the party there this time felt better as well (as opposed to just running off). And they still preserved Cloud’s connection to her and where she ultimately is in both. Very well done.
I like both but the original is a lot more impactful to me. There’s something about the music and more subtle presentation that’s a lot more mystical compared to Rebirth. Also, there’s a greater sense of tragedy and a stronger connection to FF7’s realistic portrayal of death. The last time Cloud and Aerith saw each other, he gave Sephiroth the black materia and physically hurt her. He never got to apologise properly nor were his last (living) moments with her pleasant. She leaves intending to come back (“I’ll be back once this is all over”) and never returns. Nobody intends to die the brutal way Aerith does. Sometimes in real life, we lose the people we love when we least expect it and we don’t get to say sorry or goodbye and leave many unspoken words and chapters. Aerith knowing she’s going to die in Rebirth removes this element which I think it detracts from this bittersweet scene between them and also the greater themes of the story.
Aerith is not the only one who knows that she will die, we also know about her death, so there is no point in recreating the scene from the original and the developers have relied on this knowledge. Aerith is now closer than ever to Yuna from FFX and this is not a bad thing, besides, her fate is still an open question, so the missed drama due to incorrectly staged final scenes is quite logical.
@@ladyvergerin6791I can understand and totally get your (& the devs) perspective tbf. I just don’t think the fact we know that Aerith is going to die should change those story beats as it muddies the wider theme of death being permanent and unfair. The fact the OG scene still holds up shows that it can still be impactful even if we already know the story. Juries still out though of course until we see the final game.
@@MoonlightBrillance Yes, her death is still able to make an impression in OG even after several playthroughs, I understand and feel it myself. This is really an unfair death, which greatly changes the mood of the whole game, but the developers wanted to show us not just injustice, they wanted to show that death is inevitable and merciless, it does not spare the main characters, does not spare beautiful maidens in pink dresses, it may be devoid of scale, epicness and a sense of the logical end of the character's story and this meaning is not so easy to repeat in the new version of the game. The fandom itself is largely to blame, some of which began to downplay the importance of Aerith for the glory of someone's big breasts, Cloti's propaganda so stained the fandom that people before the release of Rebirth wanted to ignore the character simply because of the fact of her death, this death is now perceived by many as a sign that the character is not important to the player, and this contradicts the idea of OG. I can't be completely sure that the developers did the right thing, but it's also too early to say that they made a mistake, we don't have a complete story yet and all we can do is make assumptions and try to analyze what we've already been given😅
the exact moment of when we see Aerith run off into the distance in the original, with Cloud trying to run after her, but gets no where, always makes me emotional for some reason. maybe its a mixture of Cloud losing what he held most dear to him in that instant and is completely powerless to stop her, or his spiral into madness with Sephiroth appearing right after.
I like the Rebirth version well enough, but for me, what made the OG so special in that moment was when Cloud literally starting to run to Aerith, only to not move a single step closer and Aerith miles apart from him but yet so close. It really felt like a dream in that sequence. How we assume that we are in Cloud’s pov until they both float down, how Aerith’s little wave was so simple yet such a memorable gesture like you’re finally seeing someone you love go, just everything in that sequence is so beautiful despite the outdated graphics.
Yeah I know what you mean, Cloud was running so hard and wasn't making any progress. Yet felt he was at the sametime. I do like the moment when Cloud fell to the ground in Rebirth and was struggling so hard crawling and helplessly calling for her though.
One thing I keep thinking about is how in OG, Aerith (and even the player) completely believe that she’s actually coming back when “it’s all over”. The game then subverts our expectations as we all know though of course. But in Rebirth (and the trilogy as a whole so far) most scenes prior to the sleeping forest depict an Aerith that is aware that she doesn’t have much time with Cloud and everybody. Of course in Remake Aerith straight up has memories of OG/the future, but in Rebirth even after the whispers took away this knowledge, it’s stil clear that Aerith has a feeling of what is gonna happen. She’s depicted almost as a martyr in Rebirth. It goes without saying tho that due to OG FF7 being 27 years old as of the day that I’m posting this comment, EVERY player and their mother has a feeling that Aerith is not gonna make it here. Which is why the subversion of the expectations this time around, is Cloud saving her. OG pulls the rug from under you, but Rebirth handles THE most iconic death scene in gaming in a completely different way. And a funny thing I want to add is how in JP, the title “Rebirth” is made to sound a lot like “Reverse”. I even recall a lot of JP players confused by the title because of this same reason. So it makes total sense imo that in the trilogy, the sleeping forest scene is the reverse of what we saw in OG. Aerith lives.
Amazing explanations here, it's coming down to the expectation they set with Remake and "changing fate" and how they said that OG wasn't the "happy ending." But they don't want to just lay out the red carpet on Aerith's fate being "different" than OG. There still needs to be uncertainty there, playing the players emotions.
I dont wanna get involved in the whole shipping mess so i wont say anything about the whole "Clerith" thing But i will say that im glad you uploaded both versions back to back
She's definitely not okay...😢 She's always trying to be so strong... I like how she doesn't say it's okay and only nods, because she doesn't want to put a voice to those kinds of thoughts.
coming from OG to Rebirth I can't even explain how amazing Rebirth is from the interactions, excellent voice actors and detailed environments.. I'll never forget the first time I got to this scene shortly after Temple of the Ancients, once we went into the Forgotten City it became all so filled with grief..the loss of the Cetra, Aerith leaving the party.. Sephiroth controlling Cloud prior to the Sleeping Forest. this is really when the game really starts to make a 360 and gameplay gets crazy good on our way to Sephiroth in the Northern Crater and the introduction of the Weapons. can't stress it enough with each comment I make about FF7. I can't fkn wait for Part 3.
I'm more convinced than ever that Remake and Rebirth is a second run for Cloud, Aerith and Sephiroth. And what is the point for second chances to set right what went wrong?
If I try to translate by Japanese "I'll come back when it's all over" in English, " I will meet you (or see you then) when it's all over." would be better. In fact, in Remake, she has met Cloud in loveless Street again. And Cloud has saved her this time, so she does not need to say this phrase.
this always confused me, i wondered if this was a scooby doo forest or multiple aeriths.......with remake trilogy its kinda leaning to multiple aeriths, the aerith that aproaches is his, when she says im the last its not last cetra, its last aerith. you see her eyes widen, and she gives a little smirk. she gained the memory of the date the other aerith had
hate the part after this where she is still with the party and just vanishes conveniently into the mist while barret, tifa, red, yuffie, and cait just watch. completely takes away from this scene and is unnecessary. should have just made her missing after her fall in the temple of the ancients
OG is very special in its own right yeah. Interested in why you thought it was better to understand though? I'm not disagreeing at all btw, just curious.
I'm avoiding spoilers but I need to finally let it out. I've defended Rebirth long enough. I love this game. And I'm sure I will continue to love it so much more. . . AFTER the mini games. . . . I have. . . . I have nothing left to give. I've done everything and I thought I was done I was so happy. . . . BUT THEN MORE. . . . . . . Help me. . . . . Please. The last mini game is here and I just. . . I don't know if I can do this anymore. I am a completionist when it comes to FF and I just. . . I've done checked out on the card game I can't take anymore of that in itself and now it's just. . . . I can't take anymore of this. VII means so much to me but the mini games especially for a gamer like myself are just. . . They've almost destroyed a truly perfect game and that breaks my heart dude. I'm so tired of playing games within the game I want to play.
Aerith in the old version is so cute. She seems childlike. In the new version. she more mature and adult like. What is she to him? It seems like he is inlove with her yet he also has Tifa. WTF? 2 timer.
In Rebirth, there is much more emphasis on the fact that Aerith really understands Cloud's problem well and whatever fate awaits her in the third game, she will definitely not have contact with Cloud in the near future, which means that first of all he loses a person who, without any connection with his past, could understand, accept and help him to him. Knowing what happened in the crater from OG (thank you, Tifa), I feel this tragedy because of her loss for Cloud himself, no matter what feelings by nature he would have for Aerith.
Honestly, I hope she comes back in Part 3. I usually am quite okay with tragic events in stories, but I’d like to see both her and Zack get some sorta happy ending. They did so well with their characterizations in these games.
I don't know but the OG is sadder than Rebirth. Seeing Schrodinger's Aerith both Dead and Alive in Rebirth makes me feel numb like I can't take her death seriously
ruclips.net/video/Hl2PjbL4ARM/видео.html i recommed including this person into your next video she kinda new player and not into shipping yet, and still neutrals but its amazing how she enjoy every aerith scene, and i think she likes her very much its amazing how unbiased person / blind about FF7 think about aerith characters

this always confused me, i wondered if this was a scooby doo forest or multiple aeriths.......with remake trilogy its kinda leaning to multiple aeriths, the aerith that aproaches is his, when she says im the last its not last cetra, its last aerith. you see her eyes widen, and she gives a little smirk. she gained the memory of the date the other aerith had
I'll come back when it's all over
LIESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!! 🥲🥲🥲
hate the part after this where she is still with the party and just vanishes conveniently into the mist while barret, tifa, red, yuffie, and cait just watch. completely takes away from this scene and is unnecessary. should have just made her missing after her fall in the temple of the ancients
Aerith!
😢
Cloud!!
😭
The way he is fighting to get to her in both versions is 🤌 peak 💔
Yeah desperately trying to get to her, so close yet so far.
@@mlwjrpg He won't let her be far in part 3 🤞🤞
The way she equipped the white materia😂
Loved the effect when that happened.
I like the bgm in original better
100% agree
‘97 did it better and was much easier to understand.
OG is very special in its own right yeah. Interested in why you thought it was better to understand though? I'm not disagreeing at all btw, just curious.
@@mlwjrpg Simplicity. It got the point across, where the sequel just beats around the bush with pretty graphics.
The original was more magical, more heartfelt.
Yeah OG for sure has a feel to it that hits different.
Aerith in the old version is so cute. She seems childlike. In the new version. she more mature and adult like. What is she to him? It seems like he is inlove with her yet he also has Tifa. WTF? 2 timer.
Sad that we didnt get to play in the forgotten capital. Ut was straight to the boss
It*
I have a feeling we'll be exploring it in some shape or fashion in pt3 on several occassions, probably with Aerith first.
Nothing touches the original.
It still hits so different right?
In Rebirth, there is much more emphasis on the fact that Aerith really understands Cloud's problem well and whatever fate awaits her in the third game, she will definitely not have contact with Cloud in the near future, which means that first of all he loses a person who, without any connection with his past, could understand, accept and help him to him. Knowing what happened in the crater from OG (thank you, Tifa), I feel this tragedy because of her loss for Cloud himself, no matter what feelings by nature he would have for Aerith.
Rebirth destroy completely the excellent history of ffvii
Honestly, I hope she comes back in Part 3. I usually am quite okay with tragic events in stories, but I’d like to see both her and Zack get some sorta happy ending. They did so well with their characterizations in these games.
They will but not together. Rebirth buried Zerith and part 3 will sink completely Cloti ^^
@@001Sweety yes, 001Sweety works at Square, so they know EXACTLY how these events will play out.
I don't know but the OG is sadder than Rebirth. Seeing Schrodinger's Aerith both Dead and Alive in Rebirth makes me feel numb like I can't take her death seriously

i recommed including this person into your next video
she kinda new player and not into shipping yet, and still neutrals
but its amazing how she enjoy every aerith scene, and i think she likes her very much
its amazing how unbiased person / blind about FF7 think about aerith characters
Cool I'll look into some of here playthrough and check out her reactions!
