Great demos and suggestions for Christmas gift making!🌲 One important caution tho, please, do not ever use a rotary cutter without a ruler. 💕🧵🧵🧵
I have to say I don’t use a rotary cutter often without a ruler - some ppl make it look so easy I had to try but don’t trust myself (and like my fingertips!)
@@ArtistTaraReed - Yes🤣 Most of us do love our fingers and want to keep them😍 Have a great week!
you too!
A smaller iron is a must. I’ve steam burned my fingers trying to iron smaller pieces.
Ouch! Sorry that happened 👎🏻
Not EVERY machine has the flat part facing back so check your machine settings. Which way does yours go?
Thanks! I thoroughly enjoy your tutorials. Not all machines are created equal. My older Singers have the flat side to the left. My Sailrite has the flat side to the right. My newer Singer (30 years old) does indeed have the flat to the back.
Yeah… look at me assuming they are all like mine. Whoops! I have 3 brands and they all go this way 🤷🏻♀️
@@ArtistTaraReed I have so much enjoyed learning at your elbow. The water bottle bag and lip balm holder have been hits for me at my local Farmer's Market, this summer. So far you have helped me earn a couple hundred bucks! Thanks!
@@helendiglia9074 Yay! That's so good to hear! Have you tried dog bandanas? (I have a few tutorials) I've heard they sell well... lmk if you do!
@@ArtistTaraReed Those are next! I already make some nice leashes. Those will be a super side by side addition!
@@helendiglia9074 and poop bag holders! A trio 🐶
How did the bottom magically get stitched all-around? I only see the bottom seam getting stitched?
Well that was an unfortunate editing mistake! it should have been done at 10:18 before moving on to the straps. After you sew the 3 sides, you then match the seams and the sides of the cut-out for the bottom and sew with 1/4" seam. You can see it sewn at 17:21 or see how the box bottoms are done in my wine bag tutorial - ruclips.net/video/_O08xhl4Fug/видео.html - you will use the same method
@@ArtistTaraReed Ah, clear, thanks!
@@FabianGisbertz you're very welcome.
This is the second video tutorial on these tubes, and neither of you demonstrated using the smallest one. It’s easy to demonstrate the larger one. I’ve tried with the smaller one and all it does is rip holes through my fabric, so it would be nice if somebody could possibly show me if I’m doing anything wrong.
This is the most commonly used size imo. What size tube did you try and I’ll give it a go. Lmk!
@@ArtistTaraReed I mentioned that I used the smaller one and it just ripped holes through my fabric. The smaller one is supposed to be for spaghetti straps or if you are making a seat cushion, for example, and you want to have ties. Never been able to get it to work.
Brilliant. Going to find these. Thank you for the tip ❤
You’re welcome 😊
👋👋 Thanks for the review.
You’re so welcome 🥰
Thank you for the video. I have owned the tubes for years and never used them. I will definitely use them now
You’re very welcome - you’ll love them ❤
Have you tried these? What do you use them for? Small investment for a big return!
Thanks for sharing. These are much better than a pin. Sore fingers no more.
A small investment for a big reward! 🏆
I had a job in an industry where I turned sewn fabric belts inside out using a larger scale tube turner that was fastened to the table and it took seconds to turn one. It was spring loaded in order to do mass production. Same principle. I am surprised it took about 50 years to come up with a home tool now. Thanks for sharing.
How interesting! Thanks for sharing
Is bias tape just folded over cloth sewed over the edge of another piece of cloth?
The pocket has a front fabric and fusible fleece ironed onto the lining - then the bias tape goes over that.
Love everything you make I’m definitely going to make them all. Thanks for sharing your video. Blessings
You're very welcome - happy sewing!
Love the tree shirt, stocking, dog collar and dog stocking! Love them! Going to try to do these for a Craft Fair! Thanks for sharing ❤️🇨🇦
You're very welcome - have fun and may you have great sales!
New subscriber hun, loving your channel...
Welcome!
What kinds of baby sewing projects would you like to see? LMK!
Thank you for the info
You are very welcome!
Thanks for this video. Is the foam at the bottom (which becomes the base of the case) sewn together, or does it just come to the bottom and stay open? When you sewed around the whole case with a quarter inch seam I couldn't tell if you intentionally avoided sewing the foam together or if you purposely sewed under it. Thank you again!
The foam has a fusible adhesive on one side to adhere it to the fabric. I did purposely avoid it when sewing the seams because it is too bulky when you get 2 layers into the seam. The only place I actually sew it is when I edgestitch around the top / opening once it's turned right side out. Hope that helps!
I would sew a sand sack permanently sewn closed out of muslin. Then i would use the pretty fabric and sew a removable pillow case. This way, the pillow case can be laundered. These heat packs can get smelly from body oils and perspiration. Thanks for the tutorial.
I have done them that way as well - great reminder - thx!
I’m making this to put my silver trinkets in for the crow party
what's a crow party? intrigued...
@@ArtistTaraReed we all bring shiny trinkets to trade and whoever brings the best items is crowned the crow lord/lady
@@ArtistTaraReed your tutorial was very helpful! Thank you!

Just came across this and I set out to make one and finished 4 in no time. I like the boxed corner. Easy directions and very cute when completed.
Quick projects are just what we need sometimes, right? I’m a boxed corner fan too 🥰
AWESOME thank you !
You are so welcome - Christmas in July, here you come!

I am a fairly new sewer and just found your channel. I appreciate how well you explained what and why you do things. Great educator!
thank you! My goal is to help new and newer sewists and quilters like you - I hope you subscribed to my channel. 🥰
You can print on the freezer paper. I do it all the time on my inkjet printer.
Good to know! I haven’t tried that -thx! 👍🏻
Your rocking it my friend so proud of you ❤️
thanks! 🥰
Im loving all of them. I'll start with the stockings, then ornaments. Thanks ❤
Sounds like a great plan! Have fun 🎅🏻
The hexagon template is listed as 2 1/4” but it looks more like 4-5” across? Is that correct? Thank you
It’s from a hexagon template set from Hobby Lobby and says 2 1/4” (with the seam allowance piece) but I just measured side to side and it is 4” across. Hope that makes sense!
There is another very simple way to gather something. Make sure that the presser foot and throat plate are ones that can be used for a zigzag stitch! These instructions are for someone who is right handed. Measure how long the area is that is to be gathered. Measure a length of 1/16th or 1/8th inch ribbon, or very thin cording, that is 4-5 inches longer than the measured fabric. (If the fabric is 20” long where you want the gathers to be, your ribbon or cording should be at least 24-25 inches long. There is no need to cut the ribbon or cording! It will not remain in the fabric.) Leave a tail, at the beginning, least 2” long. The ribbon or cording should be positioned so that the long loose end is hanging over the front of your sewing machine. Secure the short end that is closest to the back of your machine, by either taking a few stitches into it, or with a pin. Make sure that it cannot be pulled into the casing you are about to sew. Next select the zigzag stitch and a wide width. With your right hand, hold the long length of ribbon or cording near the front of the presser foot. You are going to zigzag over the ribbon or cording, being careful to NOT sew on it! Hold the long end of ribbon or cording so that you keep it centered under the threads that are going to the right and left. (Creating the zigzag stitch.) When you reach the end of the fabric, pull the fabric away from the machine. Cut the threads. Hold the portion of the fabric where you stopped sewing with your left hand. With your right hand, pull the end of the ribbon or cording. With your left hand slide the fabric to the left, creating gathers however tightly or loosely that you desire. Pin the long loose end of the ribbon or cording into the fabric. Change the stitch back to a straight stitch. The stitch length can be 3 or greater. Do a straight line of stitching, beginning at the area of the fabric where you started sewing the zigzag. Stitch slightly to the right of the zigzag stitches. This will keep the gathered material in place. Continue sewing until you reach the end of the gathers. If you used a pin to secure one end of the ribbon or cording, remove it. If you took a few stitches to hold it, carefully remove those stitches, so that the short end of the ribbon or cording is completely loose. Using your left hand hold the fabric at the end where you stopped doing the zigzag stitch. Don’t hold the ribbon or cording. With your right hand pull the ribbon or cording all of the way out. Continue with your project.
Thanks Linda for such a detailed response 🥰
I found that dog pattern at HL too…my friend has a Basset Hound and finding fabric with a Basset is almost impossible. What I found had some color. I have some leftover from the tote I made her so I’ll do this for her. I had to do a bit of fussy cutting to get that Basset centered 😂. Thank you.
What a good friend you are to get that Bassett Hound just right! 🥰🐶
Could you post a link for the seam ripper? Thanks ! 🙏
I added a few links in the description but here is the link (my Amazon affiliate link) for Cindy's Seam Ripper - amzn.to/3NUiWiM
Ah HA!!! The narrow seams set the stage for the collar channel, similar to what we did when making masks (channel on each side for the elastic). I plan on making some for the shelter; they give adopted dogs bandanas when they have them (and if the pup is ok with/it). Thanks for an informative tutorial!! 🐶
I love helping with A HA moments! Happy sewing 🐶🥰
Is the tree skirt machine washable? I am specifically wondering if the white snaps would come apart. Thank you! I have sewn for nearly 70 years, predominantly garments, but I also do a large variety of craft type sewing. You are a very good teacher. You explain the instructions well.
I haven't washed mine but don't see what it wouldn't be - it's fabric and batting, so basically a quilt with snaps. The Kam Snaps are used in a lot of baby products that get washed constantly (shirts, bibs, etc) so they shouldn't be a problem either. And TY for the compliment - means a lot. 🥰
Excellent instructions! Thank you!
You are very welcome! 🐶
