Mary literally was at the center of the problems. If she didn’t keep shoving religion and just act like a mother who supports the idea of religion none of it would’ve happened. Georgie messed got Mandy pregnant all she cared about was how it made her look. George Sr lost his job, she wasn’t around to support him. She pushed missy away for Sheldon because he was “special”. If it wasn’t for meemaw and missy the family would’ve fallen apart. Even George Sr. says it he’s got more in common with his mother in law than his own wife.

I just realized why Georgie was protecting Sheldon in TBBT. Sheldon can't handle problems. When problems he wants it fixed immediately even if the problem can't be fixed immediately (in this situation, the baby should be born first and Georgie and Mandy gets married/accepted by everyone, in TBBT's back story Mary's grief can't be fixed overnight). That's why people withhold problems from him. They let him run off on his own merry neverland without burdening him their problems.

Mary can't accept that sometimes she can't fix things. She can't hold the Coopers together, but that's ok. She is a bad mother because she can't accept when she is wrong. Also she verbally abuses George every chance she get.

What you’re forgetting is it’s not the most important thing for Mandy and Georgie to get married they both have to be willing and genuinely love each other. You don’t get married because you have a child you get married because you love each other. If not, there’s no point and it is not their decision not the church not Mary’s theirs!
